Mario Bros. Set to Jump to Big Screen in Movie Deal with Universal’s Illumination - Paging Movie Bob, Paging Movie Bob...

If I were writing this (and it fits with the trailer) you'd have the "stronk princess" at the beginning and the "twist" would be her getting captured/kidnapped, and then mario goes and saves her.

But I'm slightly afraid that what we're going to get is Luigi kidnapped and Peach and Toad and Mario go to save him.

Sounds like something they'd pull.

As long as he is in princess Peach's dress when that happens I'm cool with. That's how it has worked before. (God I love Mario & Luigi games)

Them making Peach into a generic girlboss character is funny as shit, they literally did this same thing with Bo Peep in Toy Story 4. It's like the most boring souless corporate decision at this point that I'm pretty sure is supposed to appeal more to xe/xer furries on Twitter and pop culture journalists than it is to actual kids

I wouldn't even go that far. I'm liking what I'm seeing, but I still want to see more.
I dont think that Peach is the reason its going to be lame, its going to be lame because it looks like a generic team movie and because they will just cram as much stuff from the mario games in it as possible even if it doesnt make sense

So why not just call it what it is: A reskinned Minions movie with Nintendo characters.

Will the movie end with all the characters dancing to a Lizzo song?

(yes)

I don't see the problem with that. It is a video game movie adaptation, so why not make references to the games?

I worry about the Pacing

So far we have

Introduce Characters and set up the Status Quo they live in
Mario and Luigi Find Warp Pipe
Bowser attacks Ice Kingdom - Peach Finds out about it does the #GURLBOSS POSE
Mario wanders around Mushroom Kingdom Alone, Meets Toad gets sent to princess (presumably there is an action scene her else why the fuck would Toad send Mario to The castle)
Koopas report failure Bowser, describe Mario
Luigi gets captured by Bowser
Mario meets Peach has their "Training Sequence"
DK STuff
Mario Kart stuff at the end of DK Stuff
First Rescue Sequence where Luigi gets Rescued and Peach ends up getting Kidnapped with the Infinity Star
Mario Emokids about losing to Bowser
Final Battle where Mario "BECOMES THE HERO FINALLY" and beats up Bowser.

The Girlboss shit is going to be annoying, but only because they are going to write her like Dreamworks would write a Girlboss and make her a gigantic asshole instead of a wise ruler and we are 100% going to end up in a situation where Bowser and the Koopa Troops end up more likable because they are more charismatic - See the moment that rando toad says "BUT WE ARE TOO ADORABLE"

I like the look of Fire Peach, honestly.

Maybe I'm just happy to see Peach and Mario actually go traveling together as such. Like it's somewhat implied in some of the games it does happen, but I don't think it was even a multiplayer option. Peach can legit take care of herself when it calls for it, it's just in a more feminine way than your typical girlboss attitude. (The one Toad made me inwardly cringe, that's clearly some team member's kid they put in to fill a minor role for sure, rarely ever goes well.)

Mario not being good at the platforming and being heroic makes sense for an isekai plot they're absolutely going for. He's gotta grow into it, get used to the world and all that. Hopefully he's not too much of a bumbling idiot in that regard, is all I'm asking for. The Cheep-Cheep moment was great, that's the kind of stuff I wanna see more of.

Charlie Day as Luigi put the dopiest smile on my face (the Donkey Kong scene was second). It sucks the dialogue is still the same stupid Hollywood meta-schlock, but he somehow makes it work in that scene. We just need more context for the scene, mind you, but there's promise. I second the Kiwi who said it actually looks like a video game movie for once, I think that's its biggest appeal currently.

So yeah, gonna go see it. Was going to anyway because my baby brother loves Mario, was just kinda hoping it was this year instead of next year but whatever. Think Nintendo tard-wrangled Illumination enough to keep them from pulling their cut-corners shit, gonna be intriguing to see the budget for this.

I’m surprised people are concerned about Peach having the strong woman “#girlboss” character being shoved in our faces, and not the fact that Seth Rogen literally calls his dog “Zelda”. It made me think him and Brie Larson were related to one another at some point.

If anything, it makes me wonder what if Robin Williams did voice work for the movie:

He’d knock it out the park.

Oh I didn't fucking watch the interviews, who gives a shit what a bunch of people who are required by contract to shill it say as they try to convince me they are a "REAL NERD"

Bowser will 100% be the charisma lead in the movie. Mario might be able to get there along with Luigi. All in all I think it looks fine. I hope they don't go too into the lol current-year humor and stick to something more timeless and transcendental. Fuck Seth Rogen hopefully he doesn't talk too much.

PLS NO DANCE PARTY AT THE END

Charlie Day should do more voice work in the future. He nails Luigi to a tee. Personally, looking back at the old trailer, I kind of think Jack Black may have slightly over exaggerated the Bowser voice.

Not by that much, but he was trying a little hard to get the growl right. Plus, Keegan Michael Key voicing Toad sounds a little off to me for some reason.
