Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

I'll check it out, thanks. I've always avoided them because I've only ever seen them recommended in the same breath as ANNCast and Crunchycast. "If you like the guy who got pegged by Jesuotaku, you'll love this" didn't inspire much confidence. Maybe my problem is I've just been too quick to pre-judge shit as soy content without giving it a fair shake.
I can see that comparison! But thankfully they aren't like that. They've mentioned how shitty the Crunchyroll awards were and how it's stopped certain shows they've liked from winning (Mushoku Tensei) and how its not really up to the fans.
anyone been watching akiba maid war? now that was a real sleeper hit. think its only one or two episodes left.
I love it. An original series with an outlandish premise that would be perfect for a Takashi Miike or Sion Sono film. Ranko and Shiipon best maidos.
Reminds me of Lycoris Recoil. I shudder everytime I hear that name because of the insane amount of yurifaggots that flock everytime that anime is mentioned. Reminds me of a signature I saw when browsing TVTropes:
Reminds me of the fucking annoying forced yuri nonsense people were pushing on the Aquatope anime.

So what ate you guys picking up next season?
Probably gonna be
NieR
Tomo-chan
Niggertoro
Ayakashi Triangle (even if the troons might latch on to it)
For me it's mostly romcoms with a exception:
Tomo chan( read the manga ages ago, very hyped)
The angel next door spoils me rotten
Nagatoro
Bofuri, for my iseaki fix

Well, if the latest episode is of any consideration, the redditors and /a/ faggots have already latched into the yurishit part. So too late on that one.
I genuinely have no idea why. There's absolutely nothing in that episode that's the slightest bit gayer than any CGDCT.

At least Bocchi yurifags are just squealing about muh cute couples. It can be obnoxious sometimes but it's not entirely out of left field, and the Japanese do it too apparently.
Symphogear yurifags have basically hijacked the western fanbase and made it all about muh gays muh homosexuals muh trannies. And it's not even a CGDCT but an action show. I don't know if a fanbase can ruin a franchise but if it's possible then these guys succeeded.

Did they actually hit the target audience, or is the only reason this show got attention is because otaku finally got their female Gundam protag with some yuri to boot?
Turn-a-gundam was originally supposed to have a female MC but we ended up with a crossdressing femboy for an MC instead.

Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko is one of the above. It's been over for 3 years and was never that popular when it was still publishing.
I think this surprised everyone but since Anime has become more mainstream since covid I think they're trying to see what might stick more to a western audience. Either way hopefully the adaption is good

Part of the CGDCT genre is girls acting really gay with each other. Someone on /a/ said they couldn't rewatch episode

I agree. I don't think it's a particularly good parody of yakuza films. The setting is absurd, the juxtaposition is absurd, but in the end the characters act exactly the same way they would in every yakuza film, and there's even arcs and episodes that you're clearly supposed to find seriously emotional. "Absurd world that everyone takes seriously" can make for good comedy at times, but it's a premise that burns itself out real quickly once you realize that every episode is a yakuza movie cliche juxtaposed into Akiba, and this doesn't make for actual, meaningful commentary on the genre.
After thinking about it a bit, I came to the conclusion that the main problem in Maid War is that it's a two person show, with the other three maids blurring into the background barring the one episode where they are the center. And while those two are very fun characters, it's really reducing the things that can happen and make plot beats repetitive.

Fucking Wrong, retard. Loran was always intended to be male, and he was even more manlier than before. We have it documented, so why do you keep spreading misinformation?

You can easily tell these people have no taste since they absolutely obsess over anything that has the slightest bit of yuribait in it, especially if it's not a CGDCT show. It's not just an added bonus, it is the single reason why they enjoy it. This group is mostly troons/freaky bluehaired women. The latter section are usually also yaoifags but in today's world of social justice, cishet women aren't allowed to openly like yaoi so they have to fetishize 2D lesbians instead.

It has as much yuribait in it as any CGDCT show. Plenty of girls groping each other, sleeping in the same bed, making sexual jokes toward each other, etc.

There's bait for sure, but when 90% of your show is just punching stuff you'd think that would be the meat. At least you wouldn't say the show is about the bait.

I've been on a bit of a Iyashikei kick recently having finished Yokohama Shopping Log and the 2 OVAs for it and I'm finally starting to get around to reading/watching Aria. For anybody who has gone through the series before, would it be better if I read the manga or watched the multiple anime series? The manga is complete (as far as I know) but I'm such a fan of the OP for the original Aria anime that I might watch it instead. If there's any reason why I should choose one version over the other please let me know.

The iDOLM@STER series will finally be releasing their music on Streaming sites. SideM and Shiny Colors are already available now, and Cinderella Girls music will be released on Streaming sites on December 7.

I do wonder how much more people will be drawn to that franchise, given that they haven't focused on the Western market for the most part, compared to how other Idol Anime series (namely Love Live!) have done that.
I would love to see Platinum Stars and Stella Stage get a western release. All we have is the PSVR game. Its good but only has 3 songs. Theres more but its paid DLC. I thought the animes popularity would give it a bigger chance. Im happy to see this news though.

Reminded of these reviews from the late Grumpy Jiisan, bless his soul...

DSP restreamer An1337 recommended this one on stream: "More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers".
I won't forgive him for making me read CWCville ToraDora, even if I didn't hate it. It's okay if you like RomCom because they don't always bumble around with misunderstandings, sometimes (but not always) being cleared up in 1 page. Still in progress though, so it could go bad.

Going off the reaction, I always figured Bocchi was from one of those "branched off of yuri" magazines or that the author did yuri before since sometimes that's the case. Looking it up though, she seems to write fanservice, "big boob" and "thigh" anthologies.

The most chad categories of fanservice.

Finished Haruhi. Now watching the movie. Its so much better than the damn show, oh my god. Next is the Haruhi Chan and Tsuruya series and then Yuki series.

God I need more Tsuruya and Asakura. Hope they make up for them not being in the original show much.

IIRC, Bocchi in the manga has big bocchis too, they are hidden by her jumpsuit. It's shown on a beach chapter or something.

I like these two as well, so I appreciated the novels giving these two more screentime, including a trippy 2.5D fight scene with Asakura holding Kyon hostage at knifepoint to save him from another ayy.
