It gets spookier when you know that some (if not all) car manufacturers do their self-driving program tests in rural parts of China. There are plenty of dashcam videos showing these self-driving cars not stopping at crossroads, running over people, crashing in other vehicles as they keep going like nothing happened.

An Edmunds reviewer got locked out of the Lucid Air that he was driving in a long-term review of the car.
Apparently, the cause of that was due to being in a deadzone, which meant that the Lucid app couldn't authenticate to unlock it. The key fob that the reviewer had did not work either. With the increasing trend of car Phone Apps (i.e. Tesla's car app), and other overcomplicated car key substitutes, I wonder why people are still clamoring for those, when just a simple mechanical key and/or remote would suffice.

I have no strong opinions on Tesla as a company or their vehicles.
However, I will say that those who own Teslas really creep me out in how cultlike that they are in their downright fanaticism. It's not even entirely a green thing, either, as it applies to those on either side of the aisle. It's bizarre just how zealous they are about their Teslas and owning a Tesla.

I know but at least you dont have to do it to get your heated seats to work, like with bimmers and mercs.
The lucid its such a fucking meme, they go an make an ev that's even more expensive than a tesla right when ev prices are going down and you got all the other regular automakers making EVs.
Who is going to buy a $138k (that's base price btw) no-name car from an unknown brand when you can get a model S or an EV bimmer for less than that? Luxury cars are 50% flexing it to others so paying out your ass for one that nobody knows and looks more like a 90's intrepid than a modern car with that blob design it fucking stupid.
Seems the cult thing is reversing, some speculate part of the reason why barely used teslas are going so cheap its because elon is now a meany bad doodie head who says no-no words.

I have a friend who always put bumper stickers on her cars. She ended up buying a Model 3. She went on-line and found all the Tesla cultists talking about how bumper stickers cheapened the car, and then went and put her usual bumper stickers on her Tesla.

The main party trick of the Lucid is that it's marketed as the fastest EV you can buy. There's no other reason besides that from the upstart company. It's faster than the Tesla Plaid and the electric motors are rated at 1111 horsepower or something like that. It's a vanity car you buy to read off its spec sheet. The app retardation is why these EVs suck. Every car has them. The stripper model versions are more and more appealing these days.

Car history its full of failed companies whose entire gimmick was that the car went fast. But then people would go an buy a "slower" porsche or ferrari because nobody ever got laid with a detomaso pantera.

Pay credits to unlock your car. Somethings do not need to be changed. It's no different than having an "app" to unlock your front door. People who pay for this convenience are guilty of pulling everyone down the slippery slope with them.

Right that's a common sales tactic along with making a motorsports version of the car but with Lucid that's their only car. They have no normally priced cars for the masses.

Related to this. I went on road trip through some prime driving territory with a group of friends who are into cars recently and we all chipped in and rented a model 3 performance for a couple of days. The unanimous agreement was that although it was the quickest car present it somehow made being fast boring. Now none of our cars could really be considered slow, and all but one of us currently own or have owned cars that will do a 1/4mi faster than the Tesla's mid 11s, so that skewed our opinions. I can see being totally infatuated with your first performance car if you go from ordinary cars to a model 3. If you've owned fun cars the one trick pony appeal will wear thin fast. The novelty of doing 3.4s 0-60 runs by just planting your foot wore off after about 5 pulls for me the first time I drove one. The fastest accelerating car in our group other than the Tesla was a modified Audi S5 which is similarly a heavy but capable car. Furthermore the Tesla was not at all engaging on twisty mountain roads, though it was easy to drive and fast through the corners for such a heavy car. There is no way it would have kept up with the lightest cars in our group on a tight course. Fun cars make extracting max performance a matter of skill, not just owning a fast car, the challenge and feedback makes it more engaging. With model 3 at least you may as well play a racing sim on a top spec computer.
We would all like to rent a plaid or lucid to test out but they are quite hard to find. None of us own a quicker car than a tesla s plaid, I think the fastest would be about a half second slower through the traps. One guy owned a modified 2012 GTR for some time and actually sold it for the same reason that we didn't love the Tesla; it was fast but somehow kinda boring. I've griped about Tesla's soy-tier interiors before so I won't beat that dead horse.

Apparently, the cost to repair Teslas are so high, that some insurance companies are choosing to write off the cars as a total loss instead. And the insurance costs for Teslas are outrageous as well, as it can cost a driver with good driving and good credit, $2k to insure a Model Y yearly, and $3k to insure a Model X yearly.

And it looks like another EV startup may bite the dust soon, as the operating company of the Dutch EV Lightyear (not the Disney film), has declared bankruptcy. Although to be fair, no one is going to be able to make a solar-powered car with today's technology, as Hyundai (I think) showed on some of their hybrid cars with solar panels on them, and the solar panels provide a miniscule amount of battery charging, compared to the cost of them.
