General GunTuber thread

I thought than other than the 2000-3000$ price estimate, it seemed pretty cool. A competitor to the Desert Tech in 308 and 6.5. Looks slick too.
Minus the shitty camo paint job, yeah the rifle looks cool, it looks like a Russian prototype gun. But that "former Spec-Ops Warfighter" guy is a walking Arfcom meme. Watch Hopp and you can tell he's repressing laughter. And we can't forget the "AKs are SOOO reliable" boomer meme. My money is on Ian doing a Forgotten Weapons video on this gun in 5 to 10 years.

Oh the guy selling it is a meme, make no mistake, but strictly on merits on the gun-which I agree looks like some Russian prototype- I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt if only for being another American bullpup. I'd like to shoot it in 6.5.

Google Utreon, the top results are all forgotten weapons. A year or so back a handful of other YouTubers, uncivil law, and C&Rsenal (I'm guessing at Ian's suggestion) made videos plugging them. They obviously haven't had the money to do any sort of proper marketing.

The website is a mess half the first page is advertising stuff behind a paywall. Their search feature is as fucked up as Bitchutes was, and most of the videos aren't indexed on google so you can't do a search that way. Forgotten weapons page looks, fine but Ian could have done that himself on his own website embedding videos from Vimeo.

In other words I think it's a safe bet that he has some sort of relationship with them, other than simply a customer/service provider.

If guntubers want another platform then they have to produce content that will solely be on that platform, otherwise what's the point? Why would you watch a video on Utreon when you can watch it on YouTube.

Ian has done stuff like this before, people were screaming at him that they were refusing to use Patreon, and to open a Subscribestar, when eventually he grudgingly set one up, he declared he was too busy to take Q&A questions from subscribstar and it would still only be Patreon and Utreon. He has 80 supporters on Subscribestar, and his only post on the site was from 2021 informing people that he would now graciously accept their money.

If you want a contrast, there's a military YouTuber called Ryan McBeth, he puts edited videos that meets TOS on YouTube and unedited videos behind his Substack. If YouTube banned him tomorrow he'd still have his substack, and his paying audience.

Just to clarify:
I was the first to pickup on Utreon and lured Ian in. This was because I had received yet another alt platform email. However, unlike the others, Edward had provided some context on his vision about improving over YT and how to handle moderation. He was keenly aware of their flaws on the technology/implementation side instead of just yelling about politics.

I convinced Ed to target Patreon first instead of YT, because frankly it is impossible to combat YT head on, feature for feature. Their network effects are too great. However, Patreon actually offers very little in terms of services. So, we market Utreon as a better Patreon and, in the process, are funding an eventual, gradual, YT alt. At the same time we get backup video hosting right away.

I promote Utreon bc it is in my best interests to do so. I want a stable funding site that won't boot me for working with firearms and coupon codes etc. I want a YT alt. Rumble is certainly an option but I actually started talking to Utreon before Rumble took off (at least before it was in my field of view) and I've never seen a macro, scalable strategy from them. They were still debating moderation practices and rules while surging. I've never heard from anyone at Rumble, nor do I understand their vision outside of the usual free speech platitude. I'm not opposed to using the platform, but haven't been lured in either. It's easier for me to work with someone I know. Ed has even shown up in person for the IV8888 rangeday in order to just meet some more creators and understand the firearms issue better.

As far as Utreon's UI problems, I agree with your points and have reiterated them to Edward. I recommend messaging utreon yourself as they are very responsive to public interest. They just spent the past month creating a whole rent/buy feature for a French channel that onboarded. They're eager to offer technical solutions as fast as they can afford to make them.

Anyone know the deal with this guy? CRS Firearms.. Only thing I saw on this thread was about Meth. ETA: After watching it appears to be an ATF bust, big one if they were tracking him like he says. Seems paranoid as hell though.

He's come up in my recommendations I've tried like two of his videos including the one you posted. Couldn't finish either. Just struck me as some vetbro yelling at his camera in his garage (cause the wife won't let him film in the house).

IIRC when he was raided and arrested it was for having a forced reset that he didn't destroy or un-shaped lightning links, or both, something like that. Tracking him I dunno, he posted videos about the stuff on his channel. Not saying that to justify anything those worthless fucking feds do, mind you.

TacSwap is actually really awesome and those guys deserve more support, you just see stupid shit on there sometimes.
Took a cursory look and it seems like an interesting site. Lots of recent postings but it definitely has an air of being unfinished.

While browsing the front page, I found a 100$ MP5 patch for "SupDef" - Superior Defense. I was curious as to why it was so expensive and if it was just a mark up added by the reseller or if it was originally sold at a high price. I could not find the original listing on SD's store, but Ebay and other sites had the same patch selling for $120 and $250.

Would you pay $100+ for something like this? The SupDef logo is in the style of the Superdry logo in the top left and a Supreme red box logo is on the mag. A crossover with Acoustic Attenuation Group with a limited 100 patch run.
Supdef.jpg

SupDef's website looks like it is trying to be the "Supreme of skater gun gear", with high prices, standard quality printed T shirts with logos and limited run merch drops. Archive of their store page going back to mid 2020
They even blurred out the shirt and hat designs on their previous release pages as shown below.

Listing page on TacSwap - Link (Archive)

Their about page has no information apart from that they are a gun shop located in Nevada (https://supdef.blog/about/).

Some of their previous designs. No prices were listed for these specific items but on archive.org T-shirts went for $30, hoodies were $70+ and range bags were 300-400+

Truly bizarre.
Anyone know anything about SupDef or what their gimmick is?
<Note: wrote this a few weeks ago but forgot to post it>

The video is the embodiment of [schizo mode: activated] and he was actually right for once about the strange cars and vans. His breakdown at the end is understandable.
The rope lights around door ways seems like a smart idea to affect night vision but quite obvious. How well would powerful IR floodlights mounted around a house and under windows to act as IR dazzlers work? They would definitely fuck with NVGs and would be great for CCTV cameras while not polluting the visible spectrum.
Returning fire on an ATF hit squad and thinking you have a "snowball's chance in hell" seems a bit optimistic.

I remember seeing him in a video a couple years ago where he was talking about the legality of machine guns and how to obtain them (both legally and illegally). This was probably the thing that drew the ire of the govt. The original video seems to have been shoa'd but I found a copy here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnraOHbQfNI

A video here points to CRS (Matthew Hoover) selling lightning link steel cutouts as pictured below to be the reason he was raided. In the description of the video a copy of the indictment was attached and it seems to confirm the video as true (not an expert in reading law documents). I attached the document below

Matthew Hoover confirmed as CRS firearms channel operator and store owner

Heavy charges that put him as a co-conspirator with Ervin - main seller of lightning links I think.

Interesting. I have no idea why Youtube decided to recommend that video. I've been watching more guntuber stuff lately, but one like this? Odd.

I'll be interested in the outcome. I don't think his chances are real good frankly. I think his gun biz is going to be the least of his worries.

Oh and to use Gofundme for this at all, get it taken down, and then say he'll try another crowdfund for legal expenses.. Man, talk about asking for it.

ETA: And 16:55 someone is asking what he's doing and to stop and he basically waves it off. This guy is SBF-level confessing.

@Molokroid

TacSwap just did a complete site overhaul so that's probably why.

Superior Defense is a cool guy boutique brand that is one of those "if you know, you know" type things and their customer base is generally people who carry rifles for a living, hence the price tag. You should see what some of their rifle bags go for...

Saw this video from Tools&Targets about the conclusion to his ongoing problems with Sig customer service and firearms. Definitely made me reconsider wanting a p226.
It's a little hard to blame him, Youtube is almost comically anti customer, and openly shits on the people that are the only reason for it existing. My account recently got banned, but they don't even have the good graces to tell you that you're banned, I just get a lie "error" message claiming that I can't post right now and to try again. I can't imagine the kind of bullshit they pull on dudes who make that their living; still, I can't feel too much sympathy for Ian considering that his and many others 50 IQ "anti politics" stance is a huge part of why he's in this situation to begin with. If only all these faireweather gun enthusiasts had the spine to stand up when it might have mattered. Demolition Ranch, Hickock 45, Paul Harrel, the list of guys who should have used their popularity as a platform for awareness just continues, and it's hard to pity any of them for finally ending up getting screwed when they lacked the spine to speak out.

Utreon won't go anywhere, just like hatreon. Government won't let their pet tech oligopoly get real competition.

Sig has seemingly gone to shit over the past five or so years, sadly.

Still love my P226 but I doubt I'll ever get any of their newer offerings.

Rumble and Substack are both properly funded. Both sites have been targeted on numerous occasions for hosting objectionable content and they had the PR, Legal and Marketing budgets, not to have to back down.

Once Utreon starts to appear on certain people’s radar, and they start to get fucked with on a serious basis, are they going to have the resources or contacts to survive?

Sounds like tactical fartsniffing.

I've been hearing a lot of shit about Sig for many years now, so they've been offputting to me for quite some time.

When would this have mattered? When would the opinions by the insects have had any weight to almighty Google? They were untouchable and all powerful well over a decade ago, and they didn't give a fuck when people complained about their retarded faggotry back then either. Remember Google+? Everyone hated that out of the gate, it was a big shitstorm, and Google didn't care at all.

You're VASTLY overestimating the kind of weight all of guntube could ever have thrown around collectively. Again, Google is a company which could easily afford running YouTube at a loss for a decade, why should they care about a relatively segment of its userbase which they already had by the balls anyway for almost all of this time?

My hunch is the guberment check went to their head like any good welfare queen, but I haven't actually put in any research to confirm or deny it. Either way, that's enough to put me off the company so I am glad he uploaded the video, and was so meticulous about testing and proving they're lying, rather than just having a "he said, she said" scenario.

Well, given the choice between meekly spreading their asscheeks so people who hate firearms and all who own them pretend they're the "good" gun owners, vs. using their popularity to try to spread awareness and maybe wake up some of the NPCs and kids watching them, the choice is obvious. I don't think they could have stopped Google, but they could have had a spine and gotten a mite of respect; at this point I'm going to laugh when they get assfucked because I can't feel sympathy for "apolitical" gun owners who have much more influence than you or I ever will have. Guns are inherently political because they're always trying to ban them and make you an outlaw for owning them. Anyone who refuses to grasp that deserves what comes for them, and that includes Ian much as I may enjoy his videos.

I don't believe for a moment Google is running Youtube at a loss. They control so much fucking advertising and data collection, that's where Youtube pays dividends, not to mention the social engineering aspects. They just compartmentalize profits so they can lie by claiming Youtube doesn't make money when they ignore all other revenue streams they use Youtube to grow, since the advertising metrics and personal data they scraped is qualified as a separate profit pool. That's not even getting into high level money that they're almost certainly getting from the U.S. government, China (like the Dragonfly project they absolutely never stopped working on), or massive investment firms like Blackrock for their "good" work. Loss my ass.

Videos like this and their lawsuits about the trigger have always put me off. Say what you will about S&W and Ruger, both I'm considering for my first semi auto pistol, they fucking work and don't pull bullshit this hard. My old man's Ruger P series and my pre lock Smith Model 36 are still ticking to this day, no drop safety issues in sight.
