People confuse heart attack and cardiac arrest all the time. I truly wonder what happened but I don’t think Jack is going to come back. Look at Damar Hamlin. My theory is that he (the football player) went into cardiac arrest from commotio cordis. Hit the heart just right in the beat cycle and boom, CA.

Dude was healthy and even he still needs oxygen. A person like Jack with a multitude of problems is not one to just get better.

Not to mention, Hamlin had a team of trained professionals begin CPR and give him oxygen within about a minute. I don't know where he began to have his medical crisis. If from what Garret was suggesting, and he was in urgent care while this was happening, his prognosis is better since he would get trained medical professionals to begin administering CPR and oxygen as well as defibbing him.

But he is a lot older and in worse physical shape than a professional athlete, with an already extensive medical history, so his prognosis has to be pretty grim.

You don't have hours to survive a cardiac arrest. You have roughly 10-15 minutes and that's in the best of cases.

Had a co-worker of mine who was the complete antithesis of Jack. Hated most meat dishes, sodas, and video games. Dude lived clean as fuck and made me feel like shit for drinking a goddamn Monster every now and then. Not going to get into tons of details but he had cardiac arrest during a PT test. In the 15 minutes that it took to get an ambulance to him and to the hospital he had lost a majority of his brain functions and would have been in a vegetative state for the rest of his life. They kept him going on an ECHO for about a day, and that's when his blood pressure slipped and he was past the point of no return.

Now take a man like Jack, who willingly ignored Dr's advice for years, and ask how many minutes did his actions shave away?

Edit: medical terminology. People commonly mistake heart attacks for full blown cardiac arrest.

That's why there is some debate on how many chest compressions you should do between ventilations. CPR has evolved with the aim of trying to be more effective on heart attacks, and has a focus of trying to keep oxygenated blood going to the brain.

In the case of a cardiac event, the sooner an AED can be deployed, the better chance the patient has of surviving.

I'll forgo any comments on Jack's health until he's discharged one way or the other, just in the interest of good taste (insert cooking joke). But for you Kiwis: archive your favorite cooking with jack commentary videos. There is a VERY real chance that if he joins the Dodo club, most of those videos will be removed out of wanting to not have content making fun of a dead guy. If the commentator is a nice enough person to not yell slurs at Jack the entire time, then they probably will see leaving up videos that mocked him for his ego as being in bad taste after he dies. Just some food for thought.

It is a sad and unjust irony that older people and people with long-term health problems sometimes actually do far better than otherwise healthy and young people who have a sudden heart attack out of the blue. This is because when your heart is getting to the point of congestive failure, you actually grow your own bypasses to some extent. So if you're lucky, you have a blockage somewhere that has already been at least partly routed around. If you don't have any of that crap, that part of your heart just dies in a few minutes.

I shouldn't have to note I don't know this personally, but it's a possibly garbled remembrance of something an actual heart specialist told me when talking about a mutual acquaintance who just keeled over dead at about 40 with no previous health problems.

Cardiac arrest still has bad outcomes overall. Over 90 percent of CA victims still die. The problem isnt just the CA itself but reperfusion injury.

A lot of people don't realize the massive process the body goes through or that pulseless VT is in fact, a shockable rhythm or a myriad of other stuff.

AEDs and CPR save lives and there's no doubt of it, but even so. It's terrifying knowing the medical side of things sometimes, it truly is. Post CA hypothermia protocol, for example.

Garrett's not gay, he's just really into the evil marihuana and cryptobro stuff.

It's also well established, from my own experience in particular, that anti-vaxxer types are paranoid about anything related to hospitals and treatment. They'll refuse medical advice because they think the doctors are trying to kill them to get payouts from drug companies. We already know Jack has walked out of the ER against advice before, and has never been compliant with his post-care treatment plans (that's why his arm isn't just weak but completely dead).

As much as people on this site would enjoy it, if Jack does pass away, leave his family in peace. No one deserves to have their period of mourning interrupted by someone looking for Internet clout.

Imagine if Jack had acted like a normal human being and taken the dead arm as a massive wakeup call. By this point, at an entirely reasonable level of diet and exercise for his age he could have dropped 140 pounds. He'd look like a deflated mylar balloon but he would have added 5, 10, maybe even 15 years to his life, enough to see his first (accepted) grandchild. So many angy political posts unsaid, so many polite backhand jabs from Rob to miss, so many trips to Orlando or Confederate monuments unmade, so many sweet hours he could be spending ignoring HOPE.

All these moments lost in time. Like drops of meat juice in the rain.

It’s just my opinion that if you’re personally aggrieved with your parent and you don’t want to be super involved at the end of their life, fine. That’s your choice. I myself am the type of person who cares almost entirely about my personal reasons for my decisions and almost nothing for how it looks from the outside.

But, this isn’t that. This IS caring how it looks, and trying to gain sympathy and attention. I don’t doubt this guy is a fag, it’s extremely immasculine to make BPD attention posts
