I have known a dude much like Drex although he couldn't look more different. He is a Jew who literally looks like he stepped right out of an A. Wyatt Mann cartoon. He couldn't be more stereotypically Jewish.

I am not sure that all are convinced (at least I am not) that a mid-life crisis is an inevitable thing for every man.
It's really common when you didn't sow your wild oats early in life, because you think you were actually missing something instead of just skipping fucking your life up with dumb shit. If you get that shit out of your system at the right time, you don't end up holing your life below the waterline because you feel the need to coom.
That's why mid-life crisis bullshit is so bad. You fuck up your life at a time in your life that you do not have time to make another.

The whole idea of marriage as love and romance is a relative novelty. Previously it was just a way to cement political alliances and have a legal framework for the succession of property ownership. People would get married because their families decided it or at least okayed it and because of some perceived advantage.
As such only nobility and people with property to care about bothered with the formalities, with most couples just being married under some concept like common law marriage.
And the nobility were routinely in loveless marriages solely to produce an heir and if they wanted love, they sought it elsewhere.
