"Zero Punctuation" and "Dev Diary" by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw - The only thing worth watching on The Escapist

I just find it funny him saying "R&M least has a more consistent tone and comedy than the Simpsons had for a decade"
i know he said before he thinks Simpsons went downhill after season *five*, which I always thought was absurd, but if he is saying it's better than Simpsons has been from 2013 - 2023 then that's incredibly faint praise. If he's saying that it was better than PEAK Simpsons, from 1989 - 1999 then he might have said one of the dumbest takes of all time

high on life review. havent seen it but ive never actually heard about his opinion on rick and morty at all. it seems like itd be his thing since yahtzee's views can be completely understood once you realize he has the exact tastes as a redditor
Since he had a strong dislike of Borderlands' writing, I was expecting a completely different tone to the one we got. It's the same thing - gameplay doesn't feel good, the plot is just not there, the reddit-tier humor still isn't funny no matter under how many layers of (faux) irony it boils, with the only interesting feature being occasional nice views overshadowed by the mediocre character design. The whole video feels like Yahtzee is trying to defend his baby-boo NotFunny McWifeBeats from the few people that both still have an acceptable taste in videogames and watch his content

It had two alright seasons and then the humour dove out of a cliff, the only consistent thing about the comedy is how unfunny it is and the tone literally changes between episodes from "heartwaming for redditors" and "incredibly dark and mean spirited"

A bit late at this point but he gave Saint's Row (2022) the "top blandest" category. Return to Monkey Island failed to chart in any of the lists, not even the footnotes. I wonder if it was such a disgrace to the series that he didn't even acknowledge its existence again.

I'm sure it's been said a lot, but the fact this guy keeps such a consistent release schedule for 15+ years is nothing short of impressive.
There are three constants on the internet:
  1. Yahtzee will make a video on Wednesday.
  2. A new Freeman's Mind will be released in 6+ months and will feel exactly the same as it did back in 2009.
  3. CWC will be the most pathetic human being on planet Earth.

Yahtzee is smart enough to realise that ZP is what made him, and has openly acknowledged it allows him to pursue other projects. Compare that to Troonquisition, who expects to coast off shit he doesn't do anymore, and wonders why his career has stalled.

You can set your watch by Yahtzees work ethic.

The quality definitely decreased though and I wonder how much play time current games have compared to the past.

Also at least someone like Linkara or Doug Walker have more edit work in their reviews.

Well I don't know, half of his reviews are of 5 hour long indie trash, so he probably does play them to completion. Except for all the ones he openly admits he hasn't...

So are we expecting him to review Hogwarts Legacy today?

Update: apparently not. Too soon, perhaps.

Nah, mo like if he dares to do it, the people in Cali will burn down his house or spit in his Starbucks latte.

Apparently he will be, and the Escapist are crapping themselves about it:

>he was doing a stream for trans lifeline and looked like he wanted to be anywhere else
yea no shit, anyone who hasn't drank the kool-aid would feel the same way.

"Hey, you know that guy that makes edgy jokes online about vidya? Lets force him into something he absolutely hates. That totally won't have any negative reprecussions!"

People are ribbing him in the comments of the latest review for thinking that that dykey mcbuzzcut was straight.

It's the usual current year case of having two female characters that don't interact throughout the entire game only to have a scene implying one is attracted to the other during the ending credits which most people skip.
Got to have that representation, but you can't possibly have ugly men be representing the homos.

Little me wanted a computer, so little me got my parents to drive to the big city. In a Best Buy, I picked out an average computer and we went to checkout. The store employee heard I was new to gaming, and said Minecraft was good. Little me asked why it was good, and the employee rips out his phone and shows me a Minecraft review from a guy named what, Yahtzee? It was funny to my young mind and it stuck with me. I started watching and the reviews were pretty fun.

Then I discovered Yahtzee19, and the ego review. Watched the whole series 4 times over. And his let’s drown out. Some great times. Thank you random computer salesman. I hope gabe and Yahtzee
get married

I wanted to know exactly how his friend Gabe feel so hard to be e-begging online everyday now?

Also Triple AAA is trash and for inbreds, Indie supremacy forever

What do you think was peak Yahtzee then? His content for the past decade has more or less been the exact same to me. I think the only real difference is he focuses on pretentious indie games somewhat more than he did a decade ago. All the rest is the same. Same amount of political sperging, similar style of edgy humor, similar "story sucks single player is boring multiplayer is I'm not playing it" etc.

2010's when his videos still had novelty, new games were worth speaking about and you couldn't know yet everything he was going to say purely by the game's genre and budget.

I've been watching Extra Punctuation lately and Yahtzee is a genius. He's better when giving his serious analysis than his humor, not that the latter was bad, but that shtick was funny back in the day and it's old now. I think he's got a lot in common with AVGN in terms of being a seemingly cool dude who understood that the anger is supposed to be performative and silly, not real, and he kept his out-of-character personality and opinions restrained enough that it makes him human when he makes some libtard joke instead of obnoxious (like a cunt like Jim Sterling).

Watch Extra Punctuation if you haven't. He's much more interesting nowadays when he's talking about design rather than just bitching about spunkgargleweewee for the 50th time.
