He was always gonna peak at sub 200K subs. In Dave's terms, he doesn't make meaningful or engaging content. What he does is leave a camera running for nine hours a day and then spams it on youtube. Dave is so retarded that I think he probably unknowingly subscribes to the labor theory of value that holds that all work hours are of equal value regardless of quality or skill. So obviously his time streaming should receive the same reward that someone like Pewdiepie has gotten.
For some comparison a channel I like that puts out crude animations, Doobus Goobus, has going for two years and is almost at a million subs. How has he beat the 15 year begacy Dave has? By putting in the damn work and making funny shit. It's better to put out a minute of good content every two weeks then nine hours of shit every single damn day.
For another comparison, Jon Graham (creator of Arby n the Chief) is slowly getting to 100k subs after being on YouTube for as long as Phil, even though his show was at one point on the front page of YouTube and was the direct competition of RoosterTeeth's RvB. The difference is, Jon actually makes a professional one-man feature-length show (this is not a Phil word salad style description, btw), and even though you can argue about the quality or the idea of still making AntC in 2023 (I think it's very good and refreshing for what it is) you can't deny that's someone who truly has poured his life and blood for his craft despite not reaching mainstream popularity again.
Imagine making a feature-length show about talking toys that only a few thousand will watch at most when at one point you were on the verge of ruining Machinima at their peak because of how profitable you were and not bringing it up every five minutes. Now that is something I can find meaningful and even inspiring. When he did a stream after his show's finale, there were people throwing thousands in superchats even though he was reading them all equally, and not once I saw him begging about needing funds to continue or the preferred ways to donate, almost like people were responding to the quality of the content they got as opposed to being told about it. Now that's a legacy and I can truly believe the guy when he says he's not after views and clout. Funnily enough, he was a guest on Cr1tikal's podcast not long ago while Phil's begging got shut down instantly.
The reason why I bring Jon in here is because while Phil copes with his lack of fame on wanting to do something meaningful, he has nothing to be remembered for aside endless e-begging, berating viewers, being an asshole and fapping on stream. Despite throwing hours of footage every day for years, no one will ever remember any of it. He cries that tractors only clip the bad parts, and that's right, because it's the only notable things that happen. His funny moments aren't funny, so he only shines when he's an asshole. When I get clips reccomended, it's usually someone being nice to a sub, talking them out of suicide, doing a gaming milestone and overall being good people, things Phil never does. Seriously, I can't recall Phil ever being nice aside thanking people for tipping.
