Does this...not happen to other people? I got a similar ultimatum from my folks and went off to the service, I thank them for it everyday because otherwise I'd be a fucking loser.

Seems a bit like an american thing to throw kids out immediately after they turn 18, however completing your education and going to university is expected by default in my country, so there's that.

Asian families tend to live in the same household even after they get a job and get married. The moment they have more kids is when they actually move out. I will never understand the idea of moving out thousands of miles away with no support for no reason aside from "muh career". I say there is no reason to do so unless you're in the military imo.
