You Know What Grinds My Gears? - Things that personally piss you off

one thing that bothers me is people using the term 'partner' or to a lesser degree 'mate' if you are in a romantic relationship with a person then they are your boyfriend/husband if they are male, and girlfriend/wife if female. you arnt a wild animal nor a super hero, the term partner is just stupid. and if you are doing it to be gender neutral then fuck you and fuck trannies.

Yea that's annoying, and shows a lack of emotional depth to a relationship - I call my Fiance the better 3/4's because she is a much better person than me, but to my friends and family they either call her by name or some regional variation of "Your wife", the only person I know who used "Partner" is an insufferable doosh who works in finance.

When everyday people see a 'new' technology and act like it is brand new, while also calling you a conspiracy theorists, tinfoil hat wearing schizo because you told them of this 'new' technology 10 years ago. Or worse, they say "Yeah it make's you wonder how long this has been going on for". No, it fucking doesn't, people have been telling you for 10 years.

Sorry for MATI, but the new 'AI' craze is just another example in a long list of examples of how retarded people are. AI has been writing news stories, even using computer generated images of people that aren't real people, for nearly a decade.

You should have to pass a test before using technology and the internet.

I know what you mean, I am someone who spends his life working with older technology (think pre industrial) but I always try to understand what's happening with "Tech" and AI isn't something new but it's the application on a wider scale is new. I saw something the other day about basic verbal CAD that can be worked into CAM conversationally, that's going to fuck up a lot of small job shops if Sintered MEtal printing comes in a desktop format.

Comedy is usually completely devoid of serious existential thought, and even if comedic media has a meaning, it's usually tacked on.

One of the finest bits of comedy is -

Nothing smutty, nothing purid or lude just a situation taken to it's most absurd level of misunderstanding.

Though I don't work in customer service anymore, it still upsets me how people think it's okay to abuse anyone working customer service. Whenever I'm shopping, I always treat customer service workers with the dignity and respect they deserve.

I've always tried to treat people how I wish to be treated and honestly the people who abuse wait staff, till staff, shop staff etc sickens me.

I'm sure it's been said before, but the fucking essay before any online recipe. I'm here to see how much salt to put, not read your family history.

Most of them now have "jump to recipe" buttons at the top.

That annoys me something fierce, I used to be part of a forum that specifically posted those recipies without all the guff, they had a plugin that worked with imperial and metric units as well.

My favorite ancient computer running forever story involved a Novell Netware server somewhere I worked. Everyone had used it for years. One day it failed. The place had fairly high turnover, and literally nobody even knew where it was. Tracking down where it was was not easy, because while every computer was plugged into the network, it was a mess of routers and repeaters and junk.

The wiring was a total mess of tangled wiring under floor tiles and rammed into conduit which wasn't big enough to contain it all so eventually they'd just started hanging it loose.

It took nearly a day to track it down, and it was on another floor on the opposite side of the building in some maintenance closet for no comprehensible reason. It had been there for over ten years with nobody even looking at it. The fan had clogged with dust and lint so it finally overheated.

Updated Netware and turned it back on. Never saw it again.

tl;dr Netware was really insanely rock-solid. And computers can be left on forever.

1) There is a reason why a lot of Banks still run off VMS, same with larger manufacturing concerns. I know a place that has a virtualised IBM 360 Mainframe that would cost them 20 years dev time and multiple millions in hardware just for there pay roll and purchase orders.

2) I think that hardware getting so powerful has lead to programmers getting sloppy, there was a time where Microsoft refused IBM's K-Lock payment for outsourced work i.e. they got paid per thousand lines of code, on early microprocessors it was a new era where you didn't need all the shit that older systems required and negotiated a whole new pay scale for there Desktop offering.

Just do you know how absurd this is - I have my original copies of DooM 1/2 and Fallout 1/2 off the CD's and floppies and I can run and install them no problem in a Virtualised Win11 on a M1 Mac, but more modern games not much more than 5 years older have nothing but problems.

With my welding, metal dust constantly keeps getting into the port of my phone, which is much bigger than Micro USB, and it just becomes a pain to clean it every few days. Also that internal stick is way more delicate. It only charges faster, the rest is a downgrade. I'm just glad my earbuds have a rubber plug that goes over the port. Something Samsung couldn't do for a 600 dollar phone.

I keep my phone in a sealed case that supports wireless charging, I bought myself 3 of them one for my desk, one for my workshop and a big dual charger in the living room for me and the better 3/4's to just come in an put our phones on has been one of the best quality of life tech purchases I've made.

We both work in environments that leave us grubby at the end of the day so it's nice to just plonk it down on the charger, walk up the stairs get a shower and crawl into bed or into the kitchen etc without worrying the little fondle slab of doom running out of power.

The only thing I can say positively about this standard is that it's better than Micro-USB. That's not exactly a high bar, especially when everyone and their cat doesn't properly make the charging port a daughter-board connected by ribbon cable to the actual device SO YOU CAN FUCKING REPAIR IT EASILY WHEN IT INEVITABLY FUCKING BREAKS.

A very worthy addition to the thread.
I remember I've said this before on my previous account, but people in general really overestimate the importance of customer service. Every customer is a drop in the bucket. Only a fool would think a business values customers beyond the profits they generate. I'm sure there are a few rare businesses that DO care about the customers, but again those are the exception not the rule.
It definitely depends on the type and size of business.

At one of my old jobs I ended up being QA and Customer Support for a small software company, and I basically only ever dealt with IT people trying to install the software. In that kind of context, the actual purchase can be entirely dependent on whether the tards in IT can figure out how to get your software working and apparently competent support did make a huge difference there in contributing to sales.

That said, I could talk to every employee of that company by walking less than 50 steps in the office so it was on a whole different level from proper corporate customer support.

Faggots worrying about an old movie/videogame/book being spoiled for them. It's not my fault you haven't taken the time to watch something ten years old. Most of the time it's not even a true spoiler, it's just a plot element within the first thirty minutes of said media.
It's even worse when the person it's a third person interjecting with "Oh shit, no SPOILERS" when the person I'm talking to doesn't care. I think the most autistic example of this sort of thing is when I have someone telling me about some obscure shitty horror movie or genre comic nobody has watched/read and earnestly actually stops to go "Well I don't want to spoil it for you."
Yes, please don't spoil a plot twist from a 20 year old cartoon that's literally the last thing on my watchlist, if at all. I don't know how I'll get through the day.
i hate the term spoiler itself. you mean to tell me that knowing a plot detail literally "spoils" a movie/book for you? but i really despise people who get pissy about something being spoiled for them. you mean to tell me you can no longer get any enjoyment from a book/movie/game if you know something about a character or plot point? i guess i get if it is some big twist ending thing and that is important to the plot, but you have people yelling spoiler about every little thing. really you think knowing that at the end of a new hope like blows up the death star mean you can now no longer enjoy the movie? it really comes off as childish to me. like a toddler throwing a hissy fit.

USB-C is the moving target it tried to kill, in my house and wider family we are nearly always Apple devices - everything I have had either a wireless charge or a USB-C connection, We have a shared "Study" i.e. office and a display and a Lightning cable, for us it works and the only micro USB (and her work phone has wireless charging) but uses micro usb but does cloud shit easy .

"Hey, you know what needs Internet connectivity? Your washing machine and clothes dryer." - some stupid asshole at Samsung
I saw a fucking hot beverage cup with wifi capability at Costco some months ago and still can't get over that retarded shit. I had made some kind of bitter joke to my husband about how soon we'll be expected to have internet-connected goddamn mugs not long before that and the universe answered. In case anyone's confused, no, the cup doesn't provide wifi as a hotspot. It connects to wifi networks like a tablet. To do what? I have no clue, but it's nothing useful to the user. Electronic heat functions have zero excuse to require wifi, cordless or not.

You just kind of described a portion of what I've been dealing with when it comes to dumbass normies for well over a decade. People treated me like I was insane when I said DLC wasn't okay for "X" reasons and said it would turn into what I'd thought would be a more mild version of exactly what it's become today. I was telling people that their smartphones were spying on them and still get treated like a nut for it even after Facebook, The Weather Channel app and many more got brought to court over getting caught spying on their oftentimes unwilling users. I sperged about frankenbites through computer recordings years before the Jordan Peterson voice pack was publicly accessible years ago.

Every goddamn day, I'm sick and tired of people gaslighting me over shit that's right in front of their faces, yet they insist on pretending it's a figment of my imagination just because they need to bury their heads in the sands of consoomership. You'd think I spend every day talking about having conversations with the aliens in my fridge or some shit from the way they react. Francis E. Dec, bona fide schizoid was smarter than today's normie, and the Gargonite who lives in my cheese drawer and eats all of my provolone agrees.

Feels bad bro. I am right there with you. banging my head against a wall when "zomg how could that happen", happens. All the way back to the start of the internet, warning people about how every new tech trend will be perverted and turned against them, only for them to label me as the maniac. "kinect isn't spyin on you", "lol, why do you have tape over your laptop, no one is watching you", "what do you mean expansion packs used to be free? It's only horse armour, you need to relax".

The worst part is when you take these exact same people and show them how past conversations played out exactly how you'd said, they don't say "damn, you were right, I will pay more attention in the future", they say "Yeah? we knew that though" or "It's the past, get over it". It has been many years since I even bothered thinking about warning people. Now I just chuckle to myself about how it will turn out and use that knowledge to make a profit.

I am right there with you though. Normies aren't worth our time.

So in other words...

My favorite thing is said people tend to also be the type to constantly scream how Trump's presidency was going to echo the fucking Holocaust of all things.
I love how in the span of 25 years (more like 10) how pro-bourgeoisie the general populace has become. We went from most of the most successful film/tv/literature from the 90s being "question everything, they're destroying your soul slowly, burn everything down if you have to because those in charge are not your friends" to almost celebrating cringe and individuality in the 2000s (even if some of it was a "forced" individuality like scene music) to now "Oh my god Coke loves black people, these companies can do whatever they want with impunity, capitalism is actually awesome, trust the fax bro" bootlicking faggots.
It's such a fall from grace. I'm not saying we have to question everything or be complete autists but it's amazing how much "the norm" is unironically worshipped now, probably because the very people doing so think it will gurantee security for them when it won't. The same people saying they're "rebelling" against a broken system would be absolutely fucked if the system actually had any of the values they say it did. Yes, we have very broken social norms but those social norms are not celebrating faith, family and community, racism or any of that shit. It's absolutely deplorable people getting more wealth and power off of convincing toxic fucks that they're their friend when in reality they can and will do anything to further their scope of control.

Had my MacBook with USB C ports for years, and never had a problem with it not charging.
What are you doing with your devices, so it all breaks?

Pet peeve:
People being less than careful with their devices and gets pissy when it doesn't withstand them being full retard.

The EU is forcing Apple to switch from lighting port on the iPhone to USB C. It is said to be included on this years phones and honestly. I look forward to it, and it is really the only reason why I might upgrade. Even tho they need to switch to USB C on the Airpods Max, so I can finally ditch the lightning cable completely.

That the top post on any song or music video on youtube is some variant of

"oh man, i remember watching/listening to this when i was 8 years old with my dad. We would watch/listen to it all the time, driving in the car down the sun soaked highways or while playing pitch in the back garden. He has been dead 3 years now, cancer. I still cry when I listen to this song.

Just for you Pap!"

I have a couple super old dudes in my family who make six figures just by being among the only living people who know some ancient system nobody else does. Recently one of them got fired and then literally everything stopped working and they had to beg him to come back and he refused unless they doubled his previous salary.

8 years later
Yeah I remember my Dad showing me Kiwi Farms. He was an old man and dying of AIDS. We didn't get along much, I was bad at school, he was a Vietnam vet. My favorite number was 7, his was 1488 .But every week we would sit down and he'd call someone a Jew-backed autist troon and tell them to do a flip and we'd laugh with a bottle of PBR and barbeque chips. That was that one sacred moment we had with eachother every week.
I remember after I went to college I came to visit him. He obviously wasn't doing well. He was on his last legs, could only stand for five minutes a day, completely bald and AIDS-looking. I came into his room and he turns to me and he says "Hey you gook, you want to spam 41% on a Keffals stream?" and we both just smiled at eachother.
He's gone now. Him leaving really left me hurting. I started doing meth and took MTF chemo for a while. Started unironically posting on reddit. Was in and out of rehab. Things are a little better now, and I'm just getting back on my feet. But I'll never forget those times me and my dead pap who'd dead by the way read Sonichu together. Man, I miss those days.
R.I.P dead family member who's dead.

Very much so this. And for software based things, everything needing an account or app. I don't need to download and sign into an app just to find out what day the bins go out.

It sure would suck if the people making such technology could just shut off your connection/delete your account for basic human neccessities at will while being protected under law and public opinion while doing so.
I sure do hope that's not their entire goal or anything...

Or, whenever an old song shows up in some modern media thing, first handful of comments will be

"[Media thing] brought me here", "Reply if you're here because of [media thing]", "Always been a big fan but [media thing] reignited my love for this song", shit like that.

It's become so bad that an Elton John song, A FUCKING ELTON JOHN SONG, has people in the comments talking about Ant-Man because one trailer for the recent one used a remix of it. It's Elton fucking John, you know him, you know Yellow Brick Road, you didn't need Marvel to discover it or remember it!

Imagine going to a video of Beethoven's 9th and seeing "Evangelion brought me here!"

Ludwig II is getting added to Civ 6 who I adore because I have Bavarian roots and family but of course they gotta darken his skin like all the other fucking inconsistencies with literally every leader in Civ 6. Rasmes the cracker and Hammurabi the nigger.
