one thing that bothers me is people using the term 'partner' or to a lesser degree 'mate' if you are in a romantic relationship with a person then they are your boyfriend/husband if they are male, and girlfriend/wife if female. you arnt a wild animal nor a super hero, the term partner is just stupid. and if you are doing it to be gender neutral then fuck you and fuck trannies.
Yea that's annoying, and shows a lack of emotional depth to a relationship - I call my Fiance the better 3/4's because she is a much better person than me, but to my friends and family they either call her by name or some regional variation of "Your wife", the only person I know who used "Partner" is an insufferable doosh who works in finance.
When everyday people see a 'new' technology and act like it is brand new, while also calling you a conspiracy theorists, tinfoil hat wearing schizo because you told them of this 'new' technology 10 years ago. Or worse, they say "Yeah it make's you wonder how long this has been going on for". No, it fucking doesn't, people have been telling you for 10 years.
Sorry for MATI, but the new 'AI' craze is just another example in a long list of examples of how retarded people are. AI has been writing news stories, even using computer generated images of people that aren't real people, for nearly a decade.
You should have to pass a test before using technology and the internet.
I know what you mean, I am someone who spends his life working with older technology (think pre industrial) but I always try to understand what's happening with "Tech" and AI isn't something new but it's the application on a wider scale is new. I saw something the other day about basic verbal CAD that can be worked into CAM conversationally, that's going to fuck up a lot of small job shops if Sintered MEtal printing comes in a desktop format.
Comedy is usually completely devoid of serious existential thought, and even if comedic media has a meaning, it's usually tacked on.
One of the finest bits of comedy is -
Nothing smutty, nothing purid or lude just a situation taken to it's most absurd level of misunderstanding.
Though I don't work in customer service anymore, it still upsets me how people think it's okay to abuse anyone working customer service. Whenever I'm shopping, I always treat customer service workers with the dignity and respect they deserve.
I've always tried to treat people how I wish to be treated and honestly the people who abuse wait staff, till staff, shop staff etc sickens me.
I'm sure it's been said before, but the fucking essay before any online recipe. I'm here to see how much salt to put, not read your family history.
Most of them now have "jump to recipe" buttons at the top.
That annoys me something fierce, I used to be part of a forum that specifically posted those recipies without all the guff, they had a plugin that worked with imperial and metric units as well.
My favorite ancient computer running forever story involved a Novell Netware server somewhere I worked. Everyone had used it for years. One day it failed. The place had fairly high turnover, and literally nobody even knew where it was. Tracking down where it was was not easy, because while every computer was plugged into the network, it was a mess of routers and repeaters and junk.
The wiring was a total mess of tangled wiring under floor tiles and rammed into conduit which wasn't big enough to contain it all so eventually they'd just started hanging it loose.
It took nearly a day to track it down, and it was on another floor on the opposite side of the building in some maintenance closet for no comprehensible reason. It had been there for over ten years with nobody even looking at it. The fan had clogged with dust and lint so it finally overheated.
Updated Netware and turned it back on. Never saw it again.
tl;dr Netware was really insanely rock-solid. And computers can be left on forever.
1) There is a reason why a lot of Banks still run off VMS, same with larger manufacturing concerns. I know a place that has a virtualised IBM 360 Mainframe that would cost them 20 years dev time and multiple millions in hardware just for there pay roll and purchase orders.
2) I think that hardware getting so powerful has lead to programmers getting sloppy, there was a time where Microsoft refused IBM's K-Lock payment for outsourced work i.e. they got paid per thousand lines of code, on early microprocessors it was a new era where you didn't need all the shit that older systems required and negotiated a whole new pay scale for there Desktop offering.
Just do you know how absurd this is - I have my original copies of DooM 1/2 and Fallout 1/2 off the CD's and floppies and I can run and install them no problem in a Virtualised Win11 on a M1 Mac, but more modern games not much more than 5 years older have nothing but problems.

With my welding, metal dust constantly keeps getting into the port of my phone, which is much bigger than Micro USB, and it just becomes a pain to clean it every few days. Also that internal stick is way more delicate. It only charges faster, the rest is a downgrade. I'm just glad my earbuds have a rubber plug that goes over the port. Something Samsung couldn't do for a 600 dollar phone.
I keep my phone in a sealed case that supports wireless charging, I bought myself 3 of them one for my desk, one for my workshop and a big dual charger in the living room for me and the better 3/4's to just come in an put our phones on has been one of the best quality of life tech purchases I've made.
We both work in environments that leave us grubby at the end of the day so it's nice to just plonk it down on the charger, walk up the stairs get a shower and crawl into bed or into the kitchen etc without worrying the little fondle slab of doom running out of power.
