Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

I'd be curious if anyone's done a play-by-play comparing how many of these areas they can match to botw.

The Zonai Zelda getup looks really stupid tbh

Why? I've seen this mentioned. I think it looks fine.

Also, guess it wasn't so hard to find her. People will 100% head there first thing in the game. We'll see what happens.
I'm not a fan of the bulky tribal designs, and those earrings are just way too big. Basically its just too bulky and it contrasts too much with the white dress, looks weird. Sucks though because it looks like the entire game has the Zonai tribal stuff all over it, which to be honest I prefer the sterile shrine look over the sandy, bulky, tribal designs. I also just think the green and yellow colour style just doesn't look that interesting, its better than the generic teal and orange of hollywood and modern AAA, but its just very washed out, and the world is already very green with grass everywhere. I guess thats why they made the islands yellow, but thats too bright and washed out a colour to be using as the main colour, it needs contrast in it.

This turned into an artstyle rant real fast, apologies.

Edit: I have to wonder how much of the visual style is inspired by Shadow of the Colossus or any Gen Design game, I know they said Twilight Princess was inspired by Ico.

I think SotC pulls off the bleached colours better, there is more contrast despite the limited colour palette, they are also 'faking' HDR

The Last Guardian has similar ornate brickwork to the Zonai stuff, but the lack of a toon filter and higher res textures plus 3d surface detail makes it look a lot better, they also keep the silhouette as a basic shape instead of the blobbier look in Zelda.

Ahh, I see. Being from Latin America it doesn't really seem weird to me, in fact it looks very familiar. The Zonai do have that Aztec/Mayan inspiration but to me it is kinda refreshing seeing it used in an interesting way as inspiration and not as "representation" like it was in Wakanda 2 last year.

Dude be careful I am pretty sure a teardrop tattoo means she killed a guy.
lol good one

The newest trailer was better than any other showings of the game but that's not saying much. Can't even wait for reviews to roll in because Zelda has that Pokemon issue where the game could literally kill your mother and it would still get good reviews.

I can't wait for the epic story! Do you think Ganon will be bad and Link will be helped by a mysterious character?? Wow, what an original plot!
Eh, the fact that Pokemon's issues are different compared to Zelda's is enough for me to not worry too much about that department. And hey, a simple plot works so long as its properly executed, which this game looks to do.
He unironically says as he simps for a fucking game that is reusing the same map from 6 years ago

But hey, at least it will have a bunch of different food stuffs that all do the same exact thing just with a different picture and name next to it. Soooooo deep. Everyone knows that having 100 shrines each with a sligh variation on a combat scenario or physics puzzle using the same 4 abilities and collecting Korok seeds by placing rocks in holes or following flowers is so much deeper then going to each tower and ticking off all the things on the map in Ubisoft shit. It's sooooooo deep, man.

Don't ask questions, just consoom Nintendo and become emotionally attached to next Nintendo.
I mean, it is fleshing out that map and adding a ton of locations and features that BOTW didn't have. I especially don't recall the vast caverns and sky areas in the first game. That, and the new abilities shown.

As for the first game, I found the shrines to be interesting in terms of how you either located them and/or proceeded through them thanks to the freedom offered in each. The Korok seeds, while not all winners, did at least give a nice bonus for exploration. Depending on how you combined the food items, they did indeed offer different effects. As for the whole Ubisoft comparison, at least BOTW didn't automatically mark the locations on the map and made you have to find them yourself, encouraging exploration.

And I honestly thought the biomes of BOTW made a lot of sense, given that it is standard for the series to be including them. That, and the one in the Great Plateau was meant to teach you about how different temperatures can affect you, so it made sense from a gameplay perspective.

But what do I know? Being a fan of the first game and looking forward to the sequel just makes me a mindless consoomer after all.

I've been wondering about the Great Plateau, as the elevated piece of land surrounded by stone retaining walls didn't make sense to me. maybe it used to be a sky island that landed? Maybe ToTK has it sent back into the sky and reveal a pit that gets filled with water to make a massive lake with stuff floating in it and down below - possibly a water temple.

We do have confirmation that Infiltration can be used while underwater (or at least the icon for the ability appears to indicate that) so exploring underwater shit is not out of the question just yet.

Minish Cap Vaati a Zonai confirmed? Everyone else is making retarded theories so I thought I’d make one too
You're half-way there. You have your conclusion, now you gotta fish for anything you can stretch to make it fit.

I haven't played a lot of open world games, GTA3/VC/SA, Skyrim, BotW, Fallout 3/NV, and a few others maybe. Most of them didn't even really have many drastically different environments to begin with, with few exceptions. I'd prefer that rather than having randomly slapped together patchwork environments.
The games I was thinking of when I made that comment were things like most MMOs, Ark: Survival Evolved, Elden Ring, etc.

I think the dividing factor between the games I'm thinking of and the games you're thinking of is that your games are largely meant to be cities, or states, and my ones are largely meant to be countries or continents. In the latter case, it's very common to separate regions by cliffs or valleys, and have each side with wildly different climes.

That is really a hot steaming pile of cope tbh. Objectively it's a string of excuses to rationalize why the issue I pointed out is ackshually a good thing. You don't need to say it makes perfect sense to have a frozen tundra that murders you tucked around a corner of lush grassy comfortable field.

It's a tutorial, other Zeldas did it, other open world games too, you can bypass it in a bunch of ways, etc. Okay, granted, I suppose? But how does that mean it makes "perfect sense"? It was not the only example anyway, just the most glaring. It's been half a decade since I've last played it and I didn't get far, but it was noticeable at several other points too.
Okay, I'll play.
The area you're talking about is known as Mount Hylia, and the River of the Dead. It's the upper regions of the Great Plateau, the starting area. which is already a raised area from the main region. You can only get to the snow-covered parts by scaling the cliffside.
So there's a clear dividing line between the snowy and non-snowy parts, and that division is supported most strongly by altitude. It's a snow-topped mountain, mate.

As for why it's there in a tutorial sense, the entire goal of the great plateau is to teach the player all the core mechanics before they leave, so they can go literally any direction they wish afterwards with minimal direction. Having an example of a climate that needs to be counteracted makes perfect sense to include there, as three of the four Divine Beasts are in a dangerous climate. In addition, of the three main climate hazards (cold, dry heat, and volcanic heat), cold is also the easiest to counter, as not only are there the common solutions of equipment and food, there is also the simple option of lighting a torch or fire.

And again, my point wasn't that it was great. I'm sure people can come up with more elegant solutions, especially if they're willing to not require the game to teach the player literally all the things before they ever leave the starter area, and instead pace it out more like a typical Zelda game. My point was just that it was common among open worlds to have that sort of stark difference.

And if you still think my original point's dumb, maybe that just means I need to listen to my own advice.

also, re: the people saying "oh, this looks like the place near the ninja town". You're right, and I agree, but what I more meant is that I'm surprised there's not a shot-for-shot comparison going around.

Someone has to have tried to make the skyline match the one in some of these images, so we can see exactly how different pre- and post- is or isn't, right? Surely some dataminey youtuber's done that? Because it feels like nobody's tried to actually prove their case either way, they just say it is or isn't with increasing levels of frustration.

I would, but that's too autistic for me. I just went by the wetlands in the background (which only exists north of the ninja village) and the fact that the terrain of Death Mountain has an distinctive coloration. Sure, some retard could claim that's the Dueling Peaks...which offers an largely unobstructed view to the north.

The starting area shown in Aonuma's demo is right above Dueling Peaks.

New trailer was great. I'm going to save the princess and she's going to feel obligated to be my girlfriend and love me forever.
I agree, maybe there could be more development in the visuals and I am a little pissed that are using a lot of the same world but I’m absolutely certain Nintendo will be able to surprise us again and deliver something absolutely mesmerising like they did with the first game, I am so excited for this and I will consoom this when it comes in May.

So we got some legit leaks out there in the wild now. I didn't get to see them but they are out there. Showed a lot more gameplay from what I gather.

Just leaked TV ads early I think, I can't find anything about the game actually being leaked early yet, usually the game carts get shipped out 2 weeks before launch, so expect actual leaks then.
