Someone emailed Alex about him saying that the characters are only aged up because of people complaining about it and got a response.

reminds me of that whole "nutaku game collab" thing ngl
"Theyre not portrayed in a lewd way dont worry"
Wait... you mean the main girl being portrayed in Crush Crush?

It's totally lewd if you max out affection. Or so I've heard. (on the nutaku version, not the steam version)

He crossed over yandere simulator with Project QT? Interesting...

Ah. Did a bit of... research and yeah, Project QT got a crossover. NSFW below the spoiler.

So apparently someone did an article on nutaku. Two sections I'm going to highlight.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yandere-Chan (Project QT)

1687484023302.png

It doesn’t get much more on-the-nose than a girl literally named Yandere, does it? It’s like her parents wanted to give a self-fulfilling prophecy or something. Yandere-chan takes the name in stride, though, and acts accordingly. She’s found her way to another dimension – a parallel world – to find her missing boyfriend. But before she gets to him? She’s going to take care of any other girl that gets in her way.

Ayano (Crush Crush)

1687484069756.png

You’re introduced to Ayano mid-crime. She offs Generica, your childhood sweetie and the girl you confessed your feelings to. From then on, she’s protective to an alarming degree. Her sporty ponytail means hair won’t get in her eyes when she’s… well, you know. And while it’s a little scary that she likes taking a baseball bat to innocent animals, don’t worry. Ayano is a perfect angel at heart. Just don’t let her see you with any other girl. Who knows what might happen?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes! In an article on yandere's the author mentions both instances where Alex's game crossed over with another Nutaku game but NOT Alex's game itself - the source of the girl.

That's just... a hilarious bit of snubbing. Who knows, had he gotten the game out by now (nutaku may have even hosted it) it might have gotten some love.

Been awhile since I've looked at this thread, but I've got to say, I highly doubt YanDev will do a kickstarter/crowdfunding unless he is pretty much forced to.

Crowdfunding is a killer for many projects, and depending on what's going on it can be better to not raise money this way. Nowadays you can't really slip away with the cash on these platforms anymore, as prior cases like "Chronicles of Elyria" are actually developing into legal disputes. With patreon, Yandev is being paid to work on the game, but for crowdfunding, he's paid to SHIP a game/product/etc. As it is now, he can pull a Lord Bung at any moment and dip cleanly.

As much as I would like to see a kickstarter, since its fallout would be the closest thing to the peak hilarity from years ago, I highly doubt it will ever truly come to fruition. He's making a cool $1600 of straight up disposable income, and I doubt he wants to change that in any way.

The novelty of him being a doll fucker has worn off it's not funny anymore. It's even almost a virtue that he sleeps with dolls, look at other internet famous pests. As of now the real milk is in his circle of deviants, for example a dollar tree nikki tutorials aka princessdie, look up his reddit profile, it's pure material for stinkditch.

P.S.
I know you will ignore all that, because no less than half of the active discussion comes from osana redditards, you're here not for the milk, you're here because you have Yandev Derrangement Syndrome.

Post a thread over in PG or stinkditch then if you think princessdie is a good lolcow, because unless something new popped up that I'm not aware of, he's not really relevant to this thread outside of being an ex-volunteer.

Fittingly, he also edited some of his linked posts and the archives are updated accordingly. As per usual for the text comparisons, the left side is the old version and the right side is the current version.

I keep saying this and I will keep saying this as long as the stupidity continues - Alex is Obsessed with making the game perfectly finished before the crowdfunding, which is retarded as the whole point of crowdfunding is to get resources to finish the game. Nobody is going to refuse to crowdfund a project because someone found some edge case exploits or cheese tactics. They expect the game to not be done, that's the whole point of the fucking exercise.

The crowdfunding campaign has become some weird mythical goal to him, a thing that happens when he's won, rather than as a step along towards achieving some goal. Which, with a bit of reflect, maybe shouldn't surprise me - While a real gamedev thinks of a crowdfunding campaign as a middle step, towards the endgame of the project of actually finishing a damn thing, terminally online folks are likely considering the media and publicity far more. Successful crowdfunding campaigns make internet community news, get youtube videos, draw in streamer attention, etc. And I'm starting to think that's why he wants it to be so perfect - So that his fifteen minutes of fame look as flawless as possible.

On the topic of Alex's disposable income it looks like he may have lost another larger contributor this month.

It's not the lowest point his Patreon has been at but it's getting very close. Unless someone decides to start huffing fumes again we may see a new low in the next month or two.
Do you guys think when people started making videos on yandev in 2018 that sealed the fate of the game never being finished? Also I just cannot fathom why he did not just hire people to speed up development or at the very least learn better programming skills and model so he can finally stop bitching about muh volunteers

No. He may have replaced the pre-alpha stuff with alpha or even beta text, but any wider attempt at release would see the same criticism levied from his playerbase and noticed by youtubers, and lead to the same perfectionist feedback loop. Community Drama content makes for good videos, so it was inevitable, the question was only when it would happen.

Also I just cannot fathom why he did not just hire people to speed up development or at the very least learn better programming skills and model so he can finally stop bitching about muh volunteers
Three factors - First, Based on the tinybuild disaster, he is anal retentive about his code and pushing features over ALL else and being 100% involved in every single one. But his code base is absolute fucking garbage, and is impossible to work in. He's a sufficiently bad programmer that he cannot handle any of the layers of abstraction required to improve his code and make it workable for anyone else. Contributions that aren't completely isolated, dangling side threads simple cannot be brought into the project as a result, so no contributor could actually fix the game.

Second, He's arrogant to a fault about his programming skill and cannot accept criticism. He's solidly in the school of "If it compiles, it ships" with no further consideration, and has programmed himself into so many corners in his maze of classes that the Minotaur can't even find the exit. Because he dismisses all criticism and never believes that any of the fault is his code, he's genuinely unable to see that he has more to learn and needs to work on it. That kind of attitude ensures he'll never take the time to figure out how to do shit better.

Third, Hiring people takes away his prestige. We've done lots of speculating about his finances and indications that he can't really hire someone now but he definitely had the capacity to do so in the past. At this point, I'm inclined to believe he refused to do so off principle that it would no longer be his sole achievement. He's incredibly egotistical and arrogant, and extremely keen to blame. Volunteers have seen this with them constantly getting shit on if somethings even slightly off kilter, regardless of his involvement or lack of guidance. I'm pretty sure he'd see another programmer as a threat at this point, as their fixes and work would vindicate the idea that he is bad at developing games. Anything that improves after new hands come on directly implies he was not the best at it.

He's an arrogant, self centered manchild who hasn't been able to get through his head the only, singular truth about the industry that is saving his ass, and dooming his efforts at the same time. That truth is that Nobody Give A Fuck About Developers. Sure, journalists and power gamers know a few people, like Todd Howard or Miyazaki - But the vast majority of players have no idea who made the Souls franchise what it is, or shaped Bethesda's approach to RPG's and content design to this day. The only reason Yandere Simulator isn't a smoking crater in the ground is most people who are interested are there for the Idea, not for Alex. At the same time, that means most people give less than zero fucks that Alex is the creator of Yansim, and he'll never achieve the prestige he wants because of that fact.

But he's a lolcow, so this will never change, because he doesn't want to change.

No.

Yandev was handed a fucking golden opportunity, a solid core concept, and some really nice ideas that if he capitalized on would have worked great. He had a fuckton of offers of help - everything from optimization to scenario design, and if Yandev took advantage of any of it, this fucking thread wouldn't exist.

What fucking murdered this game is that Yandev wanted it as his vision. No one else's. This included the people who offered to help, concept artists, numerous asset designers, and even scenario writers. What the bulk wanted was a setup where you could choose your own personal level of being a yandere and make the game center around that experience; Yandev wanted the vision much darker by default and with a very specific vibe.

You see this kind of shit with smaller dev studios sometimes, and occasionally, a saner head prevails and directs shit back on track, but when it doesn't, you get Yandev's incompetently mismanaged baby. Brianna Wu actually almost did this exact same thing, but Carolyn VanEseltine and Amanda Winn-Lee (of all fucking people) managed to work with Frank Wu to get Brianna's vision back on something resembling a track.

From start to now, the greatest enemy to the project has always been Yandev himself and his insistence on his way over things that would work better.

Keep in mind that 2018 was AFTER the tinybuild debacle and I'd say in hindsight the rot had set in long before then, at least if I'm remembering dates right.

It's pretty hard to tell what could have been. Maybe if he'd gotten less YouTube coverage and hype very early on in development some sequence of events would have occurred that would have convinced him to pull his head out of his ass, buckle down and work hard on his dream instead of begging for attention from 4chan and basking in the attention of preteens, but it's equally possible that he would've continued along much the same path he's taken today and made the same errors, repeatedly, just with many fewer people being aware that he even exists.

It's been said before and I feel it's worth saying again; Alex doesn't really want to be a game developer, he just wants to LARP as one and get all of the attention/respect the specific developers propped up by gaming journalism appear to have without putting in the prerequisite work and effort. He was extremely lucky in his timing, striking gold at the right moment and getting far more attention than he honestly should have gotten, but then he's just been sitting on his golden goose ever since and it's long since suffocated.

TL;DR - Alex is his own worst enemy and his moment in the spotlight definitely didn't help him make his game, but that's still on Alex. Lunar Scythe was his true passion project and he never finished that either.
Also I just cannot fathom why he did not just hire people to speed up development or at the very least learn better programming skills and model so he can finally stop bitching about muh volunteers
Tried that, attempt one was tinybuild and that ended poorly with Alex literally blackmailing tinybuild to get out of paying the bill (find the email breach event in the thread; it's got the tinybuild emails). If Alex somehow got the money for take number two via crowdfunding (hypothetically; we know it's got a snowball's chance in hell) I'd guess it would go just about as well.

Also, in today's yesterday's bug-fix build:
There was a bug in the previous build that had a pretty significant impact on the game’s framerate. I felt really bad about this, so I’ve decided to upload a new build where the bug is fixed.

(In addition to that, I also made a ton of script optimizations that might result in this build giving you a higher FPS than any previous build of the game! I’d be interested in learning if you notice vastly improved performance in this build!)
Fixed bug that was causing the game to perform a gamepad check on every frame (except only the frame where the player plugged in a gamepad) which was drastically harming the FPS.
And this is why we mock you.

And this is why we mock you.
Jesus fucking Christ, how do you even manage that? The work required to make that bug happen is more work in every possible regard than using the 30 second google solution. For fucks sake, just Read The Fucking Manual. Either he homebrewed an input system like a retard, or just completely ignored the entire way it actually works.

So Unity provides a lovely little input management system, specifically because all the groundwork for handling multiple input devices, swapping them during live play, rebinding controls etc is a pain in the ass. The actual manager system includes a useful little event notification you can pay attention to. This is incredibly useful, as it means you don't actually have to check all the time if the controller changes. You can subscribe or register to the event, which means whenever the input system sees various kinds of activity, it will tell your code "Hey, this happened", and then you can do something with it. Such as seeing an xbox controller just plugged in, and switching everything to match the new device. This is much better for performance, and means you can ignore everything going on over in a space, until it tells you something actually useful has happened. You've probably seen this before in games, where moving the mouse slightly while playing with a controller suddenly swaps to keyboard prompts. Or how local hotseat coop games handle player 2 suddenly jumping into the game, it gets notified a device showed up and starts letting the new one control the formerly AI partner.

Alex appears to have instead decided to manually check device presence himself, for some fucking reason. And he does this constantly. This is the programming equivalent of picking up your phone every five seconds to check for an incoming call, instead of waiting for the damned thing to ring. Its peak stupid. Normally, if you ignore the default input system, you force people to change inputs via a settings menu toggle just to avoid this pain in the ass. You see this a lot in fighting games, that have extremely stripped down and performant input systems with very specific behavior queuing, one of the actual use cases for ignoring the default system and making your own. Yansim does not require any of this. The other time people ignore the input system is for very simple prototypes - where its easier to just read hardcoded key inputs because your making a week long prototype who's code will be replaced if the things actually worth pursuing anyway.

This is literally the hardest way you could do it in every regard - it requires significant custom code, a much deeper understanding of device registration and identification, fallback code to handle unusual devices being connected and ignored if unsuitable, the associate performance overhead of all this happening in your code instead of the more optimized internal engine code, and the performance overhead of then polling the shit every frame manually like a retard.

For fucks sake, just Read The Fucking Manual. Either he homebrewed an input system like a retard, or just completely ignored the entire way it actually works.
Perhaps next week we'll see another bugfix where Alex will state that he removed his similar code for keyboard/mouse presence detection/inputs and we'll learn that the game's shoddy performance actually wasn't due to all of the other scripts/character accessories/stupid shit he's done over the years. [/sarcasm]
A project I worked on had someone do something very similar when it came to loading and using textures in the program. Instead of loading a texture once and using it from memory, they decided that the texture needed to be reloaded from the hard drive every time that texture was needed, potentially hundreds of times per frame. Guess who got to figure out why the program was suddenly grinding to a halt?

Turns out, the person who wrote that code shortly afterwards admitted they had essentially zero proficiency or experience in that programming language (and possibly any other language as well) and had blatantly lied about their qualifications and capabilities. Much raking over the coals was done that day.

Alex's response to someone (allegedly) saying that if he was the developer, then he would have made the game follow a deep philosophical path.
