I'm sure there will be. Sony only recently quit producing anything that can play a music CD. Electronics always go out with a whimper, never a bang. Ever notice that game consoles never, ever have a noteworthy final release?

I'll put forth God of War 2 as a counterpoint. If Sony put it out on PS3, which I think was already out for six months, instead of the PS2, it would've had a much better start.

That's all ShiftUp ever made before Stellar Blade were gacha games. They also made Nikke and censored the fuck out of it for a time, but has since chilled out some. I don't think it was Tencent, because Tencent has let other games have much raunchier skins... for whatever reason ShiftUp has decided that sexy is bad. Which coincides with them going public.

Gibson began his career in 1983 with Molar Maul on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum and would become one of Imagine Software's key staff members. When Imagine famously went under in 1984, Gibson helped establish Denton Designs alongside Steve Cain, Ian Weatherburn, Ally Noble, Karen Davies and Graham Everett. He then joined Psygnosis to become part of its Advanced Technology Group and was instrumental in creating the CD-ROM title Microcosm.

He remained with the firm when it was purchased by Sony, only parting company with it in 1998, when he joined Warthog Games. In 2003, Gibson joined Evolution Studios, which was acquired by Sony in 2007. His programming credits from this period include MotorStorm (2007), MotorStorm: Pacific Rift (200, MotorStorm: Apocalypse (2011), MotorStorm: RC (2012) and DriveClub (2014).

Ico was shafted in the US entirely. Rushed release for the holiday meant the game wasn't even finished, they slapped together an ugly cover. It wasn't even out in Japan yet. The Euro/Japan cover was hand painted by Ueda himself. Japan in general has better box art because they don't have to appeal to 'western' sensibilities or whatever.


Xenosaga US vs Japan is another one I point to, but the sequels have pretty much the same art, just a different pose on Kos-Mos, but the discs are so much better in the Japanese versions

I have the Japanese copy and the disc is really cool, its got a half transparent almost 3d effect on it. Japan kept the cool discs with all three, but with 2 and 3 they just used slightly altered western style covers, which sucks but I guess it sells better than the blank white with logo.

Exoprimal predictably bombed, and PS4 software continue to show terminal decline (PS4 sku of Exoprimal didn't even chart) while the PS5 remain unable to take up the mantle as the proper successor. In the middle of its third year no less.

Eurofags and Japs are very lucky to have great cover art.

We sort of get good cover art in the west when games rarely have flippable covers, with the better more artistic cover on the inside, but now that every game case is transparent and they put stuff on the inside its become less of a thing. The only reversible covers I've seen recently are from Japanese games. Both the Nier games have excellent alt art on the reverse, but those games already have good looking cover art.

Automata has a few different alt arts based on the version of the game, the Switch version even has its own. Final Fantasy 15 also got reverse art that is solid black with the logo like the old Final Fantasy games and like Xenosaga 1. Kojima also gave Death Stranding a reverse cover that looks more like a movie poster

YS 8 on Switch got a reversible cover, but the regular cover already looks good, since its just the Japanese one.

I think most of those limited run style games all have reversible covers, my Hollow Knight Switch has one. The Last Guardian had one but its just the exact same art without all the legal stuff, and the back is fully black.
