The Beer Thread

I don't drink anymore but I'll occasionally get a hankerin' for the taste. I used to be a real dork about craft beer and non-alcoholic beers rarely cut it. But I found a newer NA release from Sam Adams and it is so fucking good. It's called Just The Haze.
Highly recommend for your halal get togethers
Had my first Warsteiner in years today and it tasted like the worst swill, fuck the Pilsener culture in this part of country. Going out and getting something halfway drinkable now.
Yeah, the bottles are pretty neat though. I was never particularly into pilsners because they're all too light. Even with a session beer I wanted something bold. Right before I quit drinking I was super into a style of beer called gose. They're salty/sour with hints of coriander and probably the best thing on a hot day. Sours aren't everyone's thing but you should definitely give a few brands of the style a go.

I was really craving a specific beer (Péché Mortel from Dieu du Ciel my beloved) and I've brought it up to my husband several times longingly, he doesn't drink anymore and had no clue where to start but he ended up getting an employee to order these for me and surprised me with them and they're actually really, really good. I'd say PM is still superior by a long shot, but I haven't had it in years so this is a more than suitable replacement for my purposes. Between its richness, sweetness, and alcohol content, I'd cap it at 2 at the very most, but it's starting the holiday off in a really cozy way for me.

Belgian Tripel is my favorite variety. Sweet, while not overpoweringly sweet, and gets me drunk very quickly. Most are at least 8.5% ABV. There seems to be an exploratory market for this type of beer. If you're looking for a good introduction to the type, try Victory Golden Monkey.

I’m on the wagon but craving beer. Athletic Brewing Non-Alcoholic (technically de-alcoholized) Run Wild IPA was surprisingly good. Society has come a long way from O’Douls, I guess.

joining the thread late, have we already discussed the taste vs price vs effect paradigm?

I drink a cheap shit supermarket white label larger from France. My favourite beer is a [redacted power level] local brew that is prohibitively expensive, my favourite cheap mass market shit is hop house 13 made by the Guinness company but it's it's still 35% more expensive than what a drink normally.

I'd put beer rating as follows Taste-20% effect-30% price-50%

Call me a puss but I don't like anything except for cheap domestic beers. Mich ultra, PBR, Landshark etc. I think it goes back to when I was five and my dad started letting me take sips of his Bud Light.
I used to be the same way (Molson Canadian for me), but my uncle unintentionally changed my palette. He was always adventurous with his beers, so when I was around 20 or so, he would often offer me one of the oddball beers he would randomly buy since he knew my dad was strictly a Coors Light & MGD guy. When I asked where did he find all his beers, he just told me he would just grab random cans/bottles to try them out when he wasn't drinking Heineken. I started doing the same shortly afterwards and I'll admit I've become a bit of snob with most beers ever since, although I will still get a pint of Pilsner if I'm at a bar.

After having a Grand Cru in college, and sampling the duchesse de bourgogne a couple times, I gotta say that the flanders red ale style of beer is the best.

If you're able to, try the Untitled Art non alcoholic beers. The Lychee Sherbert is so light and sweet, perfect for spring weather. Their Cerveza con Limon is good too.

That's fair. If you are interested, it's best to jump into other light beer styles first (Lagers, Pilsners, Blondes), then go deeper and deeper.

Also, pilsners (like most of the beers you mentioned are), are just light and refreshing. Craft beers can start getting into bread-in-a-can territory, which have their place for sure, but nothing beats a lighter style like a pils on a warm summer day.

An update to the NA beer saga in case anyone gives a fuck, I had a Heineken 0.0 at a restaurant the other day. It tasted like total ass, but my companion assured me that that’s just what Heineken’s taste like

I like red ales such as Smithwick's and Rogue Red Ale. Red Ales are rather hard to find in my area.

I like both Irish and American red ales and I wish they were more popular.
