This implies that the translation will be more literal, so no bazooka Toad or Mallow referencing Bruce Lee

Something that has me interested in the remake are the new european names and dialogue in general since the original game never had a european release beyond the virtual console which used the american localization.View attachment 5410314

I suppose it's nice that it will get retranslated but I'm not feeling it with 'Speardovich'. Ironically for something Woolsey did, Yaridovich was close to the original by taking the Japanese word for spear and making it into a faux Russian name.View attachment 5410314

I wish they did that for Chrono Trigger. For full credit they could just throw the original script in as a localization option.

Sssshh, don't say that in front of these faggots over at the /a/ boards. They will piss fury all over and use tranime as some sort of religionBut I'll be honest, weeb faggots can suck my fucking dick because direct translations are always so fucking soulless and boring.
This is the kind of opinion I do expect out of people who have no proficiency in both English and Japanese, especially localizers and "professional" translators in entertainment media, and try to make believe direct translations are a gibberish mess. But also the kind of individuals who have zero respect towards creators, which does greatly annoy me on a personal principle. But I'll be honest, weeb faggots can suck my fucking dick because direct translations are always so fucking soulless and boring.
Well you got meme'd by the subpar English game translators (the same malicious ones who are changing things to fit "western sensibilities" these days, including Treehouse and NoA), so you did parrot some dumb thing. I couldn't care less if you wanted to dab on imaginary Internet weebs or something.Yep, I'm a big dummy normie.
I can live with it since it's a straight remake and not a remaster or port.

Accuracy is nice but quality is king, if there's room for improvement I'll take it. Or, I'd have said that before current year shit, now I just want a no-frills translation.Well you got meme'd by the subpar English game translators (the same malicious ones who are changing things to fit "western sensibilities" these days, including Treehouse and NoA), so you did parrot some dumb thing. I dunno why Japanese media content somehow get a free pass for these mediocre TL jobs and re-writes, I'd still feel discontent (on the same principle) if any media from other countries were sabotaged the same. This lack of integrity annoys me both as a linguistic and as a consumer.
We have a thread here with said plenty of game TL examples anyway. Might be best to continue the debate there instead of derailing this one further.
I don't have a nostalgia thing for translations of foreign games I've played in my childhood, including english games that were translated in my native language back then. But at least your argument is something I can try to understand and respect over the dumb and ignorant opinion of "Japanese (faithful translation) is soulless/boring" from earlier.Accuracy is nice but quality is king, if there's room for improvement I'll take it. Or, I'd have said that before current year shit, now I just want a no-frills translation.
Another factor is nostalgia, I'll always prefer the Woolsey localizations over more accurate ones Square got later. It's not always about quality or accuracy, sometimes you just want what's familiar.
Johnathan: Hey, want to duel me here again ?
Note: The guy speaks in a Kansai dialect.Pepatto: Geh!! You're that famous Bowser who is known to swing around a Chain-Chomp (Wan-Wan) ?
"Come, Crono! Thou shalt joineth me in combat against Magus, THAT PROBLEMATIC SEXIST RACIST BIGOT INCEL!!"I'll be fair to Woolsey, he was just doing the job he was paid to do and had strict guidelines at the time like removing religious imagery and downplaying violence. He was also given tight deadlines so he probably couldn't get to proofread or revise his work if he wanted to. Most importantly, he never used his job as a soapbox for his opinions.
