As someone who probably drinks more than they should, the insidious thing about alcohol is that you feel like you can quit at any time and that you can just have one small drink to unwind. It doesn't even feel like you're jonesing when you are, it's more like you're just thinking about how you want to do an activity that's better when you're buzzed or how a good drink with a meal would be nice, but it becomes a compulsion as the day goes on and becomes very evident after you don't drink for a while and no longer get that feeling, but any drink in the future will bring it back. I don't think I have an addiction, but I definitely recognize some of those things that if I'm not vigilant of can lead to drinking too often and consistently.

Nick has dipped to Ralph levels faster than Ralph did, and it's sad because I think youre right, Nick could pull up from this and go back to his normal life, but his hedonism eats away at that every day. He already squandered all the fame and money he had from the Rittenhouse trial, something he lucked into and will never have again, and there is nothing left to stop him from drinking away his kids.

Nick can't "go back to his normal life" because this is his normal life.

All indications are the self-image he presented before was a fake facade that he developed and maintained for his show, and probably before that for his conservative in-laws and local community.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the mask started to slip within weeks of the Depp trial.
