Hit by Youtube's AdBlocker detection. Help needed.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
uBlock Origin on FF was working fine this morning, now I'm back to YouTube blocking the entire video. Not sure what to do other than wait for the uBlock autists to update their fixes.

This is really annoying. I just don't understand how hard YouTube must be bleeding money if they're going after ad blockers, which are a very small percentage of their viewers.
Have you cleared the cache and updated the filters? If you have, you could try Invidious if you need to. (Invidious has been more janky than usual lately, so YMMV.)

Cache yes, didn't do any good.

Haven't updated filters, I thought it did that automatically?

you have to do it manually but it doesn't matter because they haven't patched anything yet. you can check whether or not it's been patched here after updating filters and clearing caches: https://drhyperion451.github.io/does-uBO-bypass-yt/
if you want youtube ASAP you can clear your youtube cookies and log back in. it uses cookies to detect how many ads you've been served and if you haven't been served X amount of ads for a certain length of time, it'll throw up the block. it's a temporary solution but works if you're in a pinch.

Google can you define "irony" for me?

This just happened when I was listening to Youtube while gaming, ive found using a different browser, clearing cache and a new ad blocker seems to work

It does, but only once every 12 hours.

The issue is currently dealt with in uBO, so if you update your quick fixes filter list, you will be fine, however YouTube have only updated their script once today and often they do it a second time, usually some time in the next hour, so you may get hit again.

Okay, now here's another question, how do I update it? I swear there used to be an actual button or something you could click to update, now I don't see anything.

Go into uBO's settings, click "Filter lists" at the top, click the little clock icon to the right of "uBlock filters - Quick fixes", then hit the blue "Update now" button at the top of the screen.

God bless you, it worked.
No problem!

It's a good idea to bookmark the link that "the gouts" posted above: -

If it says "YES" on that page and it's green, as long as your quick fix filters are up to date, you can use YouTube without issues.

If it says "NO" and the page is red, it means the uBO folks haven't defeated YouTube's latest anti-adblock script yet, so updating the filters won't make any difference at that point in time - in that instance, just use YouTube in an incognito/container tab temporarily.

People might want to check their extensions to see if there's anything interfering with UBO. I had YouTube enhancer extension and didn't realize it. After deleting it, UBO alone seems to keep the popup away.

Also the screen always stays black during them, anyone else have this?
Before I quit using the YT site because I started getting "adblocker bad" popups, I'd get those sometimes too.

(It was annoying because for a split second I may have thought it was part of the video because adblocker on.)

Got hit with it. I'm just using Brave Shields. I see the pop-up for a split-second, then a darkened window where I can't click anything. I can block the darkened element to make it go away, but I cannot scroll up or down if I do this. Cleared cache and everything seems up-to-date.

You're better off using uBlock Origin.

Disable Brave Shield and any extensions you have that may be blocking ads. Install uBO and update the filters. Clear your cache/cookies. Go to YouTube and sign back in. You should be fine then.

Is there a way to block ads (on YouTube and in general) on an Android phone? From what I gather, you can't use uBlock on it.

I remember having uBlock Origin on the mobile Firefox for android, but I haven't used it in so long I can't be sure. Try that option.

I've only run into it once about a month ago and that's it. My setup is sorta beyond paranoid though. I have UBO, Privacy Badger, Popper Blocker, RTC Leak Protection, Decentraleyes, ClearURLs extensions running. I have my MAC address randomized, TCP resequencing, OS fingerprint masquerading, browser agent randomized, VPN with randomly assigned IPv4, IPv6 completely disabled, with the VPN having a centralized black hole for ad CDNs, C&C servers, malware servers, etc...
