Looking up Jirard in basic public databases doesn't yield anything, so I assume he's done his due diligence to hide himself; his family members however, haven't. And I have his family members names from that same link, as it names them all. So, from that story page where it gives her full 3-part government name and year of passing, you tie that into Google and you get... find a grave.
Ergo, pretty sure she has passed on.
With that being said and my own trespassing, let the dead sleep.

I wll say this about Karl Jobst, his shit is meticulously researched and he doesn't just pull the gun randomly. From the sound of things he's been working on this call out for over a year. Which is way more time and effort then most youtubers.

The only question I really have is who or what put Jobst and Mutalisk onto the scent. With charities and their finances being public record, it's easy enough to run numbers; but unless you're some sort of no-life autist, the only way you get put onto this is if someone tells you "there's something shiny over there, go take a look."

Am I the only one who has always been suspicious of the various 'charity fund raisers' alot of these gamers/speedrunners do? This is obviously much worse than most of those as it appears to be an outright scam, but some of these other charities that others have raised for are shady as hell too, such as 'Prevent Cancer Foundation' GDQ always raises for; their executives take a huge cut right off the top, and then alot of what they do spend on goes toward 'awareness', like the public isn't well aware of cancer.

That is pretty common behaviour. Someone has the suspicions about the charity or better yet, a smoking gun, but if you really want to do damage, you need someone with a following and reputation to blow the lid way open.
A Joe Nobody would not have a voice chat with completionist at all.

I can vouch for this information at least somewhat. I watched his content a long time ago and I do know he talked about his mom's passing in a way that seemed genuine and specifically it was around that time. It's been brought up enough times as a pity story that I'm inclined to believe that his mother did in fact die. Also Occam's Razor should be considered.
Jirard seems like a guy with a lot of issues and he probably isn't too bright. There was a lot of unscripted stuff where he seemed clinically depressed and may have other mental issues that have gone unresolved or have just been tucked away with medication. I also remember him talking about his aspirations to be an actor and going to school to learn acting, singing, and dancing, which fell through. If anything he is just a prime example of when you have someone incompetent in charge. If he stayed in his lane and hired someone to manage his shit for him that wasn't a friend or family, then this probably would have never happened. Every single time an eceleb has someone close to them manage finances it always go to shit. His reputation is already tanked, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets barred from running a charity by the FTC for being too dumb.
Another Razor I enjoy referencing is Hanlon's Razor, essentially, it's more likely that someone did something because they were stupid, than the odds that they are some kind of secret mastermind. I genuinely think tinfoil hattery that his mom isn't actually dead is far beyond the scope of what actually happened.

What is/are the penalty(ies) for this anyway? I imagine it has something to do with whether the money just sat (incompetence) or if it was funneled away (intentional);. But the feds say you're too stupid/criminal to handle money professionally, and what else? Monetary fines? Being forced to pay what you said? Hard time?

Just from what I read on a surface level, if they deem the charity you defrauded in need enough of the funds, even if the money wasn't spent, you can still be brought up on criminal charges to the tune of up to a decade in prison (not just any prison mind you, we're talking Federal Mutts Law Prison, where you get to live next to murderers and gang members) and paying a six figure fine in some cases. This can wildly vary depending on where you live and how bad it was. All that on top of never being allowed near a charity for the rest of your life.
Just not being honest about where the money is/was and where it's going is a big no-no to the US Government. Moral of the story: Never fuck with money if you live in the US.

I'll shoot my shot since i wont be able to talk about him buying all those games here again. There's absolutely no reason for him to have done this. People kiss his ass saying he preserved all those games and how he did such a good job. There's places that had all the games archived like a year before the eshop shut down and you can download them right now. He literally did nothing for game preservation.
