Microwaves boil the moisture in food to cook it and the boiling/steaming causes everything that's part of the food to soften. You are absolutely right, but also the act of chewing will put pressure on teeth regardless. His teeth are most likely in a loosened state in which the slightest movement which won't take much to cause will generate blood. Doesn't matter how soft the food is, if he is chewing, he has to be bleeding.

Fun fact! The condition that Cobes is suffering from may actually be advanced periodontitis, rather than ulcerative gingivitis (trench mouth). Periodontitis leads to the loss of bone in the jaw due to chronic inflammation, but is actually painless in an of itself. If there are additional issues with the teeth themselves it is possible for the nerve ending within the tooth itself can die, which also results in painlessness of the tooth.

Without getting tools and poking at his gums it's a little difficult to determine exactly what his oral diseases are, but there seems to be both a gum disease and tooth disease going on.

I am going to PL here a bit but it's relevant -

A lot of Alcoholics especially ones like Cobes who are perpetually drunk give up on the little things, not because they can't be arsed but because they just forget, at my deepest darkest moments with alcohol I did this as well but Josh has always had a problem with brushing his teeth on top of that partly because he didn't want too as a child and clint forced him long after the point he should have had too and I get the feeling that he used Tooth brushing as a punishment much like haircuts and like lots of things when he was growing up (that really is a nono with people with ODD) and it lead him to build a general "Fuck no" to things like basic hygiene.

As I said above at my deepest part of my alcoholism I was caining a 1ltr bottle of rum a day, and sadly more often than not drinking Beer and anything else and while I got showered every day, kept my beard in check for some reason I neglected my teeth some what never more than a few days at a time but it was enough that a problem I had from my youth was made worse and part of that necessitated having 4 molars extracted 2 upper and 2 lower on my right hand side that have since been replaced by permanent replacements.

I feel sorry for Josh in this respect as Tooth pain is a nightmare and because you rely on them for your daily existence but he abused them for years with high sugar content drinks and other compounds that have really fucked his teeth over, combined with his ADD that have made things far far worse than they needed to be.

When I first started recovery there was a Josh kinda guy forced into it recovery and he refused to shower and was moved to another programme when the one I was in pegged him as someone needing more intensive help and not just with alcohol and other substances, who I've found out isn't sober to this day.

I think we likely have but it's gotten lost in the mess his Maw has became, he eats a lot of weird shit with a lot of weird topping an sauces and if he's not noticed it's likely we haven't we've seen him wince in true pain while drinking hot an cold drinks, have twitches when eating food etc it's just been missed because he's just so odd to look at.

I still can't get over him committing the cardinal sin of microwaving fish. That has to leave a lingering stench, especially in an unventilated area.

That's a good catch, I've always put it down to that Booze before food attitude he has but that could be a good part of it, and he as you said never tried to chill his drinks and he's got to have been exposed to the slush drinks trend of the last 5 or so years and honestly I can see him wanting to get in on it but can't either because he wants to buy ice or tried it and the ice hurt his teeth.

I'm not sure if this was ever brought up, but Cobes definitely seems like someone who would have constant dry mouth. This would hasten the deterioration of his teeth since the plaque will calcify at a quicker rate.

I've wondered about this for a while.

Meth mouth, is essentially actaully caused more from the fact that people get terrible cotton mouth (and of course, totally neglect their hygiene). The lack of saliva flushing out the mouth/lack of good bacteria cause acid build up which is what actaully causes the enamel decay.

Back at my office, whenever we saw people with meth mouth, a typical feature was, the worst of the damage eould always be the upper teeth. This is because that is usually the "driest" area of the mouth (salivary glands are closer towards the bottom, and saliva naturally settles towards the bottom as well, so the teeth below tend to last just alittle longer)

I'm not necessarily saying cobes uses meth, but its interesting that his dental health is following the same pattern. Would duster cause dry mouth? I don't think its the kratom. I use it for back pain and I slobber like a retard. Is there something else cobes uses that would cause the dry mouth?

In one of the Snakebones podcasts the one with the Irish guy, I was introduced to the concept of Mountain Dew Mouth, and while that's not something common here I've seen a lot of Story's about kids drinking sugary drinks (particularly energy drinks and at there worst in the UK / EU they are about half as strong) and it effecting there front teeth more because they are the ones that get exposed to sugar and other substances more.

Good oral healthcare is probably the best way to improve quality of life. Think about it. Better smelling breath, no pain while eating, no bleeding while eating, no general discomfort while not eating, brushing and flossing are more enjoyable than a nuisance.

I can tell you that my mother nearly cried when she saw the first half of her temporary prosthetics. And how humiliating she felt having dentures was. Everything from eating, to talking, to paying the cashier at the registry and saying "have a nice day" was a trial and a half. She'd often forget her dentures, too, and you could tell from a quick glance that there was something wrong with her mouth even when it was closed.

Cobra might not care about getting dentures just like he doesn't seem to actually care about his hygiene or his clothing, but any normal person would be distraught at the mere idea of losing all of their teeth.
Imagine if he actually still had a social life and were able to visit any bar in town. Men and women would laugh even more at him, the ragged and foul smelling hobo-lookalike that he is and whenever he'd turn to insult them back with his dentures falling out of his gob.

TBH I think the duster Ark is sadder as it's a cheap accessible high he can get delivered, and it's really accelerating his mental decline but the teeth thing is just the newest layer of smegma but it's one everyone can relate to in some way as everyone has had some kind of unpleasant dental issue and his mouth is a stand out feature of his face.

They were watching some Catherine the great docuseries at my house and all the Russian dudes had these fancy tricorn hats.

I immediately thought of Cobra's stupid fetid hat(granted its modified to tri corner status simply to facilitate wearing a big stupid hat while sitting in a dog chair ie folded up in the back). I wish his piggies would order him one of those fancy hats.

He's got such a odd skull shape, I mean I am a big bastard with a long beard (Honestly it's about 14in long) and I wear a hat on a daily basis, and dress like someone from another century but nothing not a single thing about Josh seems to suit him even by mistake it's almost like he intentionally choses anything that isn't complementary.

Oddly enough I think he could pull off a Billiard Ball and some facial hair but not what he's rocking there (an odd that's the best he's looked in a while), he needs glasses but those round frames he likes (because Ozzy) looks fucking bizarre and accentuates his bog eye.

I honestly think if you shaved his head, put a flat cap on him, gave him a van dyke (ok in spirit), a shirt an maybe a waistcoat and some decent glasses frames he'd look not bad, not hansom but decently put together if that makes sense, While we are on the subject of clothing...

His footwear he's not been measured since he was a child and from the pictures of his feet it shows, he's fell into the trap of these hurt they must be too small. He's got a wider foot and oddly kinda chunky toes he wears boots bigger than his size footwear because he thinks he's a much larger size but he is really a size or two smaller and needs a larger shoe box than the styles he likes don't normally cater for (I am a UK 14 a us 15 men's in WIDE fit and unless I have something custom made it's a bastard to find something that fit me, and I do get measured), this is also now effecting his walking pattern and this is something a lot of people don't realise that has a knock on effect and that's on your hips and lower back and that will fuck you up by adding extra wear an tear on those joints an muscle groups that leads to a worst discomfort and outright posture problems an tissue and bone wear meaning you cant walk later on, let alone compounding blood flow and abrasion injuries he is going to have to worry about because he's going to get some form of diabetic problem with his sugar and sugar like substance intake.


One last thing I will say is all over fit, he has to have some form of sensory defensiveness and also some "I'm a XL" going on his cloths are always oddly sized even when you can see something is obviously bought for him, he's always a few sizes to big or a few sizes too small, that could be general boglimism but he but's his trousers a size down from what he needs and 2 leg lengths longer, and T-shirts a little too tight (this might be a US size thing I am not getting but from observation it looks like it) but his Coats are always more than a size to big, and Hats even ones he buy's are just too small but close enough he can stretch an abuse them - BUT all consitently so that it has to be a choice, even if it's a choice based on bad measurement or because that's what he's always bought it doesnt suit him and he needs someone to measure him and advise.
