Class of 09 - Its like if James Gunn and the rest of Troma was hired to make a video game based off Mean Girls back in 2009

its peak safe edgy
the fact that the entire first page is people sperging about it shows its not really safe edgy. i consider safe edgy to be curse words and sex stuff a la The Boys, the fact that this game about a teenage girl's high school experiences has more quotes from Hitler and racist jokes and bigoted stuff than all of season 2 of the Boys which had an antagonist that was literally a nazi should tell you its not "safe edgy"

Not only that, saying stuff about asians or gays isn't just something the "bad guys" do like is typical in modern media. its normalized to call everything gay (which is authentic for the period, just ask Lizzie McGuire here
)

Also look at the upload date on that clip, while you could consider the game Safe edgy, its really fucking authentic to the time period.

This game is a national treasure, and I love it. Despite some obvious exaggerations, it's very accurate to the time, and the scene with Nicole trying to get her teacher in trouble by plagiarizing Mein Kampf only to forget to change the word "Zionist" lives rent-free in my head.

If you have to write a wall of text explaining how something is ACKSHUALLY really edgy then it's probably not

I told Yves' if he adds hitler, bigotry, pedophile teachers and racist jokes to Mario + Rabbids he would win over the Xbox crowd and sell a million copies, but he said no.

Really shows how much he cares about his tween audience... Is it really a coincidence that their last good game, Assassin's Creed II, was released in 09?

2009 was 14 years ago. A twelve year old today wouldn't even be alive back then.
Exactly, that's why that year is such an exotic mystery to him. The wild west, the medieval times of chivalry, the reign and reach of the roman empire, the era of 09... It's not uncommon for younguns to have romantic fantasies of times before their birth.

Do we need to take you to the glue factory?

American "anti-visual novels" are a big red flag imo, as they're made and read by people whose perception of the adventure game genre (what VNs are called in Japan) is based solely on surface-level preconceptions and generalizations. They're a parody of an idea that's already a parody in itself.

I know the English sphere is missing out a lot of good stuff (Hayarigami, Buddy Mission Bond, Juusei to Diamond, Detective Jack the Ripper, Machi, Policenauts, etc.) but even most of the prominent games in the genre known here do not fall into the dating sim category (Steins Gate, Ace Attorney, Fate/Stay Night, Fata Morgana, Utawarerumono, etc).

I guess I'm not a fan of this whole mentality of everything has to be a subversion and deconstruction of some sort (while suddenly getting serious at the endings) I'm seeing from these quirky western devs.

It's a weird case of cultural osmosis and faggoty "oh those backwards sexist japanese!" which makes those people parody a genre they never played based entirely on the parodies they see in other anime. At most those people played porn games in newgrounds.

The greater irony is that those same faggots then take Persona 5 and Bioware games as the height of video game romance.
