I'm always reminded of the Awkward Zombie comic where an attempt to make the setting more USA and less Japan became a problem as more Japanese culture sifted through.

This is one thing I've never understood the love or the hate for.

I can see why as a company you go to the same pool of regularsn. For any creative project flakes are a problem, so when I find skilled, reliable people in my price range I go to them again and again. What I don't get is why it's such a closed off and niche community. Especially if a role calls for a skill set that the same dozen actors don't have.

On the other, I never really got the obsession for certain voice actors. Sure, there are recognizable favourites like Tony Jay or Keith David. Some are great at doing many voices, others have an iconic sound that is perfect when cast in the correct role. But I never got the obsession with, say, Steve Blum or Nolan North. Maybe it's because I never heard their breakout hits, but Steve Blum has the range of a paper plane and just sounds like Steve Blum most of the time, whereas Nolan North was so overused after Uncharted 2 that it became a joke.
Saints Row 4 even had him as the joke voice.

I'm sure these guys work hard and put a lot into their craft, and maybe it's the toupee problem where I only notice the bad performances,

But I don't get the autistic hate for dub and game voice actors either. They do an okay job most of the time. I grew up with Resident Evil so maybe my standards are low but I'm for more likely to lose my immersion due to script problems than voice actors.

Because most of them are basically friends of each other.

Think about it. What actually makes or breaks a VA? It certainly isn't their actual skill at the job, see the Vic Mignogna saga where it is very clear he only got shit because he didn't fit in culturally.

See also: the indie scene. Or virtually every single "creative" scene. Twitter is that writ large as well.

It nearly all boils down to high school tier clique shit.

Nolan North at least has a better range than Blum and isn't a faggot on twitter (that I know of).

Is there any way to play with English subtitles but Japanese audio this new release? If it releases on PC then at least there will be made mods.

I don't know but it's coming out on PC so it shouldn't be a issue.

and I instantly get an idea of what KK's personality is like.
it's fairly archetypical and feels familiar.

wiki says he's a cop, and guessing from how he talks, his laissez faire attitude is almost comparable to a delinquent right?
this kind of personality I'm familiar with in Japanese media despite it being very foreign to me as it's just not a type of person we have in the US.
I haven't played the game so I can only guess but immediately I am reminded of Kikuchiyo's flippant but ultimately good nature in Seven Samurai.
but my immediate impression of KK is that he is a rogue.

Now I might be reading too much into this but art is interpretive and I think its quite clear how much is lost when localizers make these small changes that think have no consequences, but that fundamentally alter how I read the character.

A cop with a rough personality and whose willing to bend the rules is much more interesting than snarky SJW communist number 398,752,284

I never played any Persona game. I heard they are good games. When I have time I play racing and old PC games.
The racing game genre is niche so at least it is less infested with political BS.

Except last Need for Speed. No wonder nobody cracked it. It sucked ass.
And very slightly Forza Horizon 5 (possibility to make a troon). But it doesnt bother me.
