Alan Wake II - The highly anticipated sequel that no one cared about to a game from 2010 that no one cared about

original alan wake was a bust too. critical success doesnt equal to sales sometimes.
The original Alan Wake didn't receive a lot of marketing. AW2 has been thoroughly shilled by all of the usual suspects and then some. I even saw a Target that gave the game its own special section. The videogame industry really wanted this game to succeed.

For clarity. Alan Walk 2 got nominated for 8 awards at TGA. Out of which Alan Walk 2 won 3 of them. Alan Walk 2 also had its own special embarrassing dance sequence at TGA.

It has also been given perfect scores by practically every publication on planet earth. Including The Guardian, Time Magazine (who ranked it number 1 on their top 10 games of 2023 list), as well as all game journos. I'd say that it's been thoroughly shilled.

Huh, must have just been Sony fanboys who told me Quantum Break sold like shit I guess.
Quantum Break sold like shit. I did a cursory search for sales figures and the best I could find were copepieces about how it totally wasn't a disaster, guys. Meanwhile we have Control and Alan Wake 2 sales figures: 3 million and 850k respectively as of the end of last year. There was a 2021 article (link | archive) (from a faggot publication, mind you) that claimed the Remedy CEO thought that Control's 2 million sales at the time didn't make it a hit.

I even saw a Target that gave the game its own special section.

Video game companies, and some others like tobacco and candy, contract out shelf space at retailers. Some dipshit marketing company thought it was worth burning money on renting that floor space.

It's also why Sega shit the bed with the Saturn by having a surprise launch in the US a half year earlier than planned. Retailers had less than a week to scramble and find some empty space to stock it, and a few big stores refused to carry the console.

I don't get how Remedy is still in business tbqh

Hasn't everything they've done sold fairly disappointing for like a decade now? I know people said Control is good but I thought it also sold mediocre.
Remedy makes games for journalists and industryfags. I don't think they'd survive without ESG money and award circuits propping them up.
I did like Control though.
Remedy and their owners have a deal with Timmy Tencent, so they're safe.

Seems about mid game, Saga starts ranting about white men.
I watched a friend play through the whole game and it's like towards the middle-ish due to the fact you have to play through the game twice for the real ending if it's the moment I'm thinking of. There's a segment where she starts going fucking insane and a splinter timeline hallucination evil version of herself starts spouting racist comments about white people and how her daughter couldn't be saved. it also might just be at the end because I only watched his second playthrough, not the first one. Some small things change because of the timeloop spiral shit going on in the game's lore.

EDIT: fuck I was beaten to it

Especially considering they want to have chink money to earn
Shame Tencent took a huge hit with the recent Chinese gaming laws being passed around. I don't think Timmy has the resources he once did anymore, but we'll see. EGS is a fucking cockroach.

I'll never forget the time Tencent ended up buying a little slice of Klei Entertainment for chink money. They were a decent indie dev team

the dance thing at the video game awards was so cringey.

I'm not interested in playing these games and then out of nowhere this dance number happens...apparently? I'm not sure why they thought it would be a good idea in a game awards show. it just made the whole thing ridiculous. 'let's have awkward nerds do awkward nerd dancing! that'll sell to the general populous!'
