Its not though, his entire persona was being relatable. He was such a fat fuck and all his stories are about being a fat loser. he had a whole video 4 years ago all about him dancing because fat people dancing is funny. But then he pulled a Rekieta and tried to be a different kind of comedian. Usually fat people lose weight before they fail and try to do this, but he decided he wanted to be a different kind of comedian and he stopped being funny or enjoyable so now everyone hates him.
Every comedian Tom Segura's level is rich yet because of the podcast and its format Tom feels fine throwing it in peoples faces and that makes them hate him. Say what you will about someone like Bobby Lee or Theo Von who have easily made triple what Tom has the last decade, but they still maintain relatability, if they said they were making minimum wage doing stand up you'd believe it even if its absurd. Tyler1 keeps up the meme that he's broke no matter how absurd it is, because it keeps them relatable
Unless you start out being a baller like Hasan and acting like a big shot, most people especially if they come for the ugly relatable dude, will get turned off by someone trying to act fancy. Then it sours their entire view of someone, every comedian ahs a bit about checking bags, but it actively pissed you off because you're like "this rich bastard"
even destiny, despite having a shitload of money coming in still seems to sweat the small stuff, constantly moving to get the best deals on rent. Unless you already got your fans prepped for that sort of content like Shane Gillis' retard brigade, you can't really be flashy. Even Shane despite making more in an hour than most people make in a year still acts like he's still a loser in his parents house, playing video games and struggling.
Another thing is that the more devoted your fans the more likely they are to turn on you. Bert's probably come quite late to the podcasting grift, but on the up side he doesn't have people who's spent thousands on him. And naturally if you spend all this money on someone, them turning their nose up to you or slighting you will cause people especially the type of people that listen to podcasts to use their massive amount of knowledge to fuck you over. Literally what O&A have been dealing with for the pass decade. Bert's comedy naturally will cause detractors, but it will also cause fairweather fans, and he hasn't really portrayed himself any different than he's been the last 30 years, theres probably no one angry at him for his recent actions because he's done the same shit he would have done 30 years ago. meanwhile Tom has been pissing off the type of people that still remember him being Patrick Melton's Josh Denny's sidekick. People want the fat relatable couple and now get the noveau rich fags
