I grew up in a house on a broken septic system because my parents blindly believed the realtor that we didn't need all the well tests because "no one has problems out here". Turns out that was a total lie.

The coils on the compressor outside are self-cleaning due to the frost/thaw cycle.

I have a water softener (NaCl) but blocked it in as the water is soft- zero build up in my kettle or sinks. When they stopped softening the water in Edmonton, I was changing washers in the taps regularly.

The well is 120' deep and just had the pump, hose and wire replaced in July so should be good for the next owner.

I do have a large Fir whose roots are no doubt working their way into the septic - hoping to be out of here before I have to deal with it. It is not exactly overworked with just me here.

but its the last slap in the face from the rich boomers who would rather have their pensions supported by millions of cheap Indian coolies (pushing their own kids out of jobs) and take a few last things from the next generation in terms of careers, in terms of demographics, healthcare overloading, and to further worsen the housing crisis. Boomers, and the laptop class liberals.

Like already in Onterrible, we're moving into a two tier healthcare system, with both tiers (the private as well) getting taxpayer funding. How on earth is it fair for private healthcare to be funded for the government, on taxpayer money? Normally Im for private healthcare, but explained previously in this thread- youre fine if you get on insurance when youre younger. Everyone here has never had private healthcare, if you sign up now the premiums are going to be insane, let alone all other costs associated with this, etc. This is collapse level, like Im reminded of the post-soviet union where people on state funded programs were just thrust into the free market and people just collapsed into alcoholism.

How the Soviet Union had infiltrated and subverted our educational institutions over decades because it takes at least twenty to educate a generation. Chretien walked the halls of power for his entire adult life so he's been insulated from the very real concerns of Canadians so he has no idea of what goes on at street level. Same with Justin Trudeau, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth so he has no concept of hardship. Hell, Jagmeet Singh may claim to be a champion of the working class, but we all know that he loves his BMWs and Rolex watches more than he does his fellow Canadian.

Oh, but Valhalla forbid you point all of this out. YOU are the problem in the Bizarro World our so-called Laurentian superiors created. I had an old coworker exactly like you describe. Refused to admit to admit he benefited from systems no longer in place, owned several houses while lecturing younger folks we need to open the floodgates. Of course he voted Liberal. Even heard him admit once that he didn't care that the system was going down the drain because "he'd be dead by then."

He died at 67 of liver failure because he drank himself to death and his family hated him.

I don't think it's just an economic thing - it's cultural too. If there's one thing Canadians could learn from Indian immigrants it's observing how and why they end up getting jobs and landlording everything. Pretty much all Indian parents shill out as much money as they can afford for their kids' education (in an actually employable discipline) and let them live at home as long as they need to save up for a downpayment so they don't have to funnel all their money to some rando landlord. Most domestic Canadian parents
1) let their kids study some whateverthefuck random history or art degree or worse just work in a factory that'll inevitably close down at some point
2) don't pay for their tuition, kick them out of the house or start charging "rent" at 18
3) smoke/drink while their kids are growing up and model the same expensive addictions for them
