Warhammer 40k

I'm just not hopeful for any TV show being made today. They will crowbar in modern politics and BS into it. Just look at what happened with other ''dudes in armor'' sci-fi TV shows. The Mandalorian had the titular Mando go from the galaxy's most badass babysitter to full-on ''MUH KWEEN'', as if the Game of Thrones writers were writing that crap. Halo didn't even try to be faithful to how Chief was in the games, and it wound up being a total shitshow that alienated its core audience. The people in charge do not have the fans' interests at heart. Things aren't like what they were in the old days, like in 2008, when the fans were able to bully Bethesda into changing Fallout 3's laugh riot of an ending. Companies can and will tell fans to suck it, even as everything crashes and burns around them.

I can surmise that we'd at least get a good season and a half of action before it turns into woke preaching, and that's me being generous. Especially since there was a lot of leftist screeching with the OG 40K lore, so the Leftists don't even need an excuse; they can just copy and paste that shit, and point to the OG 40K lore being written by people who were ass-mad about Margaret Thatcher being Prime Minister. They'll just focus it on having every religious/military figure being a colossal chump while the ''real heroes'' are the common folk who suffer under their boot. Imagine a series where some female/POC guardsmen are the reasonable, logical people who handle problems using their brains, while the Space Marines and the Sisters of Battle charge in like indoctrinated Wahhabis and get creamed by whatever horror mankind is up against, and the Commissars are trying to force our ''heroes'' to do the same, at gunpoint.

This is especially true when one looks at what company is backing this show. Amazon's influence on the LOTR prequels and the Boys has been a rather ''woke'' experience.

I imagine budget is going to be a big constraint to what can be achieved with live-action 40k since we're talking about a fantastical sci-fi setting in which all costumes, props, and sets probably have to be built from scratch, aside from wilderness film locations. With this in mind, I expect an inquisitor story to be most appropriate for a live-action show in order to keep the cost reasonable, antagonists being either a Chaos or Genestealer cult. I'd hate for it to be Eisenhorn, though, because even if it was an original adventure, I don't want to end up being disappointed in the character adaptions compared to the novels, and the galaxy is supposed to be a big place with plenty of completely new characters to follow. Lots of Space Marines or big battlefield action can be reserved for an animated series or live-action movie.

Think of various Star Wars shows as well as the Halo show to imagine what you'll see on screen for money spent, these being some of the most expensive TV shows ever made. Will Amazon put that kind of money into 40k media? Maybe, considering how much money they had to spend on Rings of Power. Or maybe the budget will be tighter as with The Expanse.

I consider you guys fairly reasonable in your gaming practices, so I come to you with a question.

With the vortex beast still out of stock (and its website price rising despite never being for sale) would you consider this new model to be an acceptable proxy? It fits the theme of my Thousand Sons army far more than the VB does, and it’s a GW model.

Would you let your opponent use one as a proxy?

It needs to be able to fit on the same base for it to really be in the spirit. Check sizes

What I know for sure is that Peter Jackson trilogy had meticulous pre-production phase that involved, among other things, expert blacksmiths pulling 8 hour workdays for weeks. Meanwhile the Amazon Studios production allegedly started building up costume department when filming had already started (or at other far too late point in time) and they had the pay premium to get anything in time. While it is worth pointing out that the showrunners were criticized from the start for being too inexperienced for a production at this scale - also allegedly, this "throw money at the easily foreseeable problem at the last minute" is somehow the industry norm these days in TV production.

You do realize both Calvil and GW gonna look over Amazons back, so they dont pull the same stuff? Like, Calvil even said he wants the show to fit lore properly and not fuck up like Witcher was.

Ya know, with what POS The Boys original material was, I'll take "woke" shit more.

I’d have to put it on a 40k base anyway, it’ll fit on the 90x120 that the vortex beast comes with.

I’m just tired of waiting on a model they clearly don’t want to sell me and this is the first GW proxy I’ve seen that I liked. I could just print a 1:1 vortex beast clone but I thought this would be more fitting.

Ty for the input and I’ll verify some measurements.

For being "woke", they made Homelander, an actual asshole, pretty based.

GW is already leftist, and Amazon provides most of the production. If they decide to ignore Cavill, nobody can stop them.

Also, GW is the one ignoring its own lore; the fans are usually more loyal to the lore than GW is, whereas GW has no problems changing the lore just to sell more minis or fit things in the current era, like how the Primarchs suddenly have a mother instead of them just being cloned from the Emperor. If GW cared about the lore, the Primaris wouldn't exist the way they do. Randos from Mars suddenly pressed into every Space Marine chapter, despite each chapter being an insular organization with its own training, hazing, and battle rituals-that makes no fucking sense whatsoever. The chapters would just kill or shoo away the Primaris Marines that try to join them. It would've made more sense lore-wise if all the Primaris marines were just older marines who signed up for some special project to get geneseed and armor upgrades. But no, for some reason, most of the usually-insular Space Marine chapters suddenly allowed randos from Mars to join their organizations.

It's that both the comic and the show are kind of nonsensical. I'm tempted to highlight why, but I already spoke enough of it on The Boys thread.

That's the problem. Back in the 2000s, the people who got involved with nerd shit cared about it to the point where they stretched their limited resources to ensure that the material was treated with respect, like how the Star Wars Prequels were shot with the intention that the SW Expanded Universe is canon. Now you just have mega-companies tossing billions at problems to make them go away while not giving a shit about the specifics; the kind of approach that one can expect from the fucking Imperium of Man, ironically enough.

For being "woke", they made Homelander, an actual asshole, pretty based.
They wanted to make him Trump with a cape, then got mad when the fans started liking him more than Starlight and Hughie.

I can imagine they'll make a villain character for 40K that winds up more beloved than the hero. Maybe a Commissar who tries to egg on his men to fight to the last, or a Space Marine who shoots anyone he suspects of being a Chaos cultist. They'll try to make these characters seem evil, but they'll wound up ''based'' and cool in the eyes of the fans.

For being leftist, they still didn't add anymore so called "woke/progressive" stuff and infact seem to ignore it, because they know it's a waste of money and time. Also, the fans themselves at times don't know much about the lore, or hang on ancient shit that is eye rolling, so let's not pretend the fans can be any better. Also, aren't IronHands already fighting for the Mechanicus, because they both jack off toasters. Oh, an on topic of Primaris Marines, Black Templars and Dark Angels pretty much started murdering those guys the moment Guilliman introduced them, heck Dark Angels went further to torture and lobotomize the Primaris marines because of them paranoid jackholes.

Have you seen what happened with Rings of Power? Or seen the most recent season of The Boys? They're adding woke stuff into it all the way. Like how Hughie is supposed to accept how he shouldn't have powers but Starlight and Kimiko can. Dude, pay attention to what's going on.

The fans are better, since they're the ones bringing new people into the hobby, introducing them to the lore, and recruiting fans of other IPs as fans of 40K, while all GW does is wipe their ass with the lore while penny-pinching for plastic models.

Most chapters just accepted them without much protest. Only a few had problems with them. If this were the 7th Edition, the Space Marines as a whole would've rejected them, since the Primaris were outsiders.

Really? We gonna bring up LORT, when Tolkiens own home doesn't give fuck all what they do with the property as long as money is being made. The Boys? Not like the source material wasn't already shit, so you really cannot make somethin' that was dogshit any worse. So, unless you can provide better proof that they're gonna make 40k TV series "woke", so far all ya got is hot air chief.

Yer putting way too much faith into fans chief, since some can be massive dickweeds to newcomers if they don't memorize name of every subchapter of some Space Marine guys.

If the base size is right and it fills up about the same space, I let it ride. It's more likely to fly at a GW store because it's a GW model that's available for sale. There's some pretty good proxies in the 3d printing realm, too.

These are available on Etsy.

Amazon's influence on the LOTR prequels and the Boys has been a rather ''woke'' experience.
Bro for starters maybe stop watching fandom menace, anti-woke YouTubers for a while, it might help your mental health. Also you are aware from what we know Amazon doesn’t have a Disney “we have to make everything gay” policy. It’s more of a Microsoft situation in that they let parts of their company control themselves for the most part. I mean there have been non-woke and actually decent releases from Amazon you are aware right? It’s about who is working on the shows more than anything, we knew right from the start that the production was run by faggots and what we got was faggot shit that almost everyone didn’t watch and just ignored. The LOTR fan base doesn’t even talk about that show ever and have long since moved on to talk about the seventh thousand re-release of one of the books or some shit lol. You know why? Because the only people that still care are faggots like Nerdrotic, who are totally real fans, even as they consoom the woke shit endlessly and never stop talking about it. On top of that please don’t use The Boys as a talking point, because even as a comic book it was complete shit, making it woke just makes it a different brand of shit lol.

With the Warhammer production all we know at this moment is that someone who really loves the franchise is behind it. Have you even thought of what if it’s shit regardless of whether it’s woke or not? You know that’s a thing right, because I really hate to point this out to you but there’s a chance it could just be bad because…. It’s just not good. But regardless of the outcome of the show guess what’s going to happen…. Nothing. I mean we’ve already had a bad 40K movie with Ultramarines and guess what no one cares or even remembers that film was a thing lol. Unless Amazon is buying GW full sale it not like there will be some kind of big change in what’s going on now. Not like the community isn’t already filled with annoying faggots and trannies and it’s not going to make the hobby cheaper so even if the shows a mega hit you aren’t going to see normies flooding the market.

Also let’s not act as if GW hasnt been ignoring their lore for both sides of Warhammer since the very beginning! I mean you know how many Black Library books that get made that aren’t super lore accurate my guy? Like a shit ton, and this has been a thing forever and it will most likely never change. On that same coin you also have to look at how GW forces companies they work with to at least stick within a framework and not go beyond it. Just look at Rogue Trader and how not woke it is, even though Owlcat is a company that bathes in wokeness.

I don’t know man, your free to go on the cringe “woke” tirade but like it’s getting fucking old, and at this point most people would rather just ignore things like they should have always been doing instead of constantly whining about it. It sucks watching things you love get ruined but dwelling on it and letting it live in a billion dollar penthouse inside your mind is just not good for you brother. I mean fuck dude the show hasn’t even started production and your already drowning in “ITS GOING TO BE WOKE!!” Like my nigga go do something that you like and just fucking relax lol.

Technically, Owlcat isn't a company that bathes in wokeness, they just work with how they're told to make stuff. So, if we go by the 2 Pathfinder games, Paizo had a bigger control over the development and telling what OwlCat should add, even though the "woke" stuff was surface shit at best.

I assume they will do Eisenhorn or something about the Imperium's early days pre Heresy and build up to Heresy. They need to start with a world building season 1 but honestly, I am not too worried because of how strict GW is with their IP. With LOTR it was different Christopher Tolkien was an idiot who did not understand how mediums worked, he thought Peter Jackson's version sucked when it is lauded and probably still is tbh. People still scream about the scouring of the Shire ffs when it just did not translate well to film plus it would have added another 30 minutes onto a 40-minute epilogue.

Yea that’s my bad since I’ve never had any real experience with Pathfinder outside of Owlcats games. So it’s just a DnD situation where it has woke shit but it’s dependent on the people making the product with that universe, got cha. Point still stands that Lord Imperator needs to chill with the woke shit and like have some fucking fun or something.

You definitely have to start with something at a smaller scale. Even though we all would love to see huge bitchin’ battles and shit, if they actually want this to work with a franchise like 40K there needs to be grounded smaller stuff that can naturally build up to the big stuff. Like I don’t even expect to see a live action Space Marine or anything like that in the first season of whatever they make besides maybe an end of the final episode of season 1 style teaser. I mean we still don’t know if they are going to adapt something or try to make something original.

That’s kinda what I was hoping. I’m just not going to pay scalper prices, ya feel me?

And I’ve got most of those files, and they are awesome, just won’t fly at the stores I am going to be playing at. But with friends I’ve got those on deck.

I really appreciate the feedback.

If you wanna have a good laugh, I believe 2 years ago, Paizo changed the Liches "phylactery" to "soul cage", because the former was tied to Jewish fate and they didn't wanna offed anyone or something like that. Combined, they removed the word "race" and changed it to "ancestary"
