When LEGO moved on to Knights Kingdom action figures I thought it was a step down. They looked worse, could lose pieces like a normal LEGO set, and had none of Galidor's character.
the main part of knights kingdom were the minifig scale sets but the buildable figures had loads of character IMO. Rascus and Vladek are designs that have kinda stuck with me. I didn't have too many of the second batch of the buildable figures that had more specialized technic parts but I saw a review of them a few years ago that showcased each one of them had a unique geared motion gimmick compared to the first wave where it was just an up and down gear motion.

That kind of reminded me, one of the few large scale castle sets I've ever owned (and technically still "own" since it's never been disassembled and is just on a shelf in a basement somewhere for over a decade or so) is the Knights kingdom Vladek fortress. I also had the add-on set to it but I have no clue what happened to it. The 2000s lego trend of black and red bad guy lairs was the kinda shit younger me was all over. The other big set I had was a different castle set from either a little before or after the Vladek castle.

My autism got the best of me and I decided to get into this im surprised this has a thread on itself but wow there’s a lot of good advice as for starting my collection I backordered the Viking village and should be getting it sometime this week I have a feeling I’ll just spiral and build Viking raiding parties but Heyo

I'm into the larger scale Technic models. Just finished the 1/8 scale Ferrari Daytona SP3. 3800 parts, 2 1/2 feet long, weighs 13 lbs. The highlight is the 8-speed transmission that works from the paddle shifter on the steering column. Has a working V-12, 4 wheel independent suspension, working steering, differential, and push button butterfly doors. Build time was just over 30 hours.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a remote Lego train set? I want a set to build for the Christmas tree this year. I saw Amazon has two, the city express and the city freight, are those the only sets easily available? Ebay had similar ones.

At that price might as well get a regular scaled train set and track kit.

Im considering that, I just always wanted Lego trains as a kid and I am pretty sure my kid will want to play with it in the future. The goal is to dress him up in a cute train conductor uniform for a picture around halloween lol.

I have a really nice set of vintage Tomy Thomas stuff from my own childhood in storage that I may just end up using but I figured I would look into Lego as well.

Lego sets are nice and all for certain things don't get me wrong. However at a certain price it doesn't make sense to me when the hobby Lego is making their version of is more expensive and inferior. Diying a custom train track would be a fun activity for a kid. Introduces them to servos and microcontrollers to control the trains.

Got any good youtubers or sites that go into this?

Just finished another Technic kit. 1/5 scale Yamaha MT-10. Has a working 4 cylinder engine with a 3 speed transmission that shifts from the foot pedal, and working suspension. 1500 parts and around 22" long. Build time was about 15 hours. A walk in the park compared to the Ferrari Daytona.

So I ended up watching loads of lego train videos and came to agree with your conclusion. Its absurdly priced for what I want, and will be looking into some real model trains in the future.

That being said I saw lego had a Jurassic Park anniversary set out so I picked up one up, I am a sucker for JP merch and hopefully my kid will enjoy building it.

LEGO trains is its whole set of fucking autism and you can go way far down that rabbit hole.

Really depends on what you want to do with it, and I'm nothing like up to date on it, but there's a whole industry of third-party shit that Lego doesn't make, like custom track and shit: https://trixbrix.eu/en_US/collection/Everything-R148/4/1/phot

It's a whole fuck and you have people who swear by 9v, people who call it "l-gauge" and mod it to use normal model train controllers and shit, and people who just build trains out of whatever is laying around.

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/hogwarts-express-collectors-edition-76405 may not be motorized, but I'm sure some autist somewhere has done it. https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/the-orient-express-train-21344 is similar and avoids teh harry pooper tax.

Any of the actual motorized ones are fun for half a minute then you want more track to actually do something. Keep an eye on the various sites and slurp up track when it appears.

Finished up this build awhile ago. Took a break from my usual Technic stuff and put together the Shuttle Discovery and HST set. I have a 1/72 scale Aoshima model of the shuttle, and the Lego version is nearly identical in overall dimensions. Not what I'd call a true scale model, but pretty damn good for a Lego set.

The Lego model is a big heavy sucker, but it's really well designed, and very solid. Turning the top engine bell operates the elevons, and pushing the whale tail spoiler deploys the landing gear. Much of the internal structure is molded in an olive green that closely replicates the green chromate finish of the internal airframe of the real shuttle. 2350 parts, took around 15 hours to build.
