I continue to be appalled by the unconstitutional Patriot Act and our use of secret prisons and torture, I still think that our invasion of Iraq is the most evil thing my nation has done during my lifetime, and that Bush and co are war criminals who should be prosecuted and punished.

What I now regard as cringe is the fact that I became a breathless hysterical twerp about it, online and off, more or less continuously for a period of several years.

This period was followed by my enthusiastic support for Barack Obama - who, I firmly believed, was going to right all the wrongs of the vile Bush administration. By 2012 it had become clear to me he was basically A-OK with all the rank shit Bush had done, at which point smoke poured out my ears and several gears and springs came loose from me in comical fashion. I've never quite been the same.

I didn't give as much of a shit until 2014 where Edward Snowden dropped his details and everyone went out of their way to shun him. Considering Obama had been sold to people on the diet of HOPE AND CHANGE (I was working nights in 2012 and bouncing between states so I couldn't be assed to vote) there was a dearth of both.

The public justification for Iraq 2: Electric Boogaloo was 'they have WMDs' and even then there were some people that were saying 'what the fuck does that have to do with Osama bin Laden?' There was never a justification and when they publicly turned it into a nation building exercise at the expense of more and more troops people were done with it. Bush barely skated by in 2004 because Kerry was the democratic candidate and he would have been worse.

I just experienced this the other day - I took my girlfriend to a diner. Two deluxe burgers, some soda, and sharing a fudge brownie for dessert and they handed me a $60 bill. Seriously? For diner food? If I'm gonna drop $60, I'd rather go to a restaurant and have two $30 entrees.

Then the Americans stepped in, seeing an opportunity to destabilise a geopolitical enemy.
