From Elon's perspective, I get the sense that also seems to be what this lawsuit is intended to test. Everything Disney did functionally around Carano's firing was standard procedure; they warned her to stop saying stupid bullshit online, she continued to say stupid bullshit online, so they didn't renew her contract. The way it was handled, combined with Disney's fever dream approach to their expensive projects and their borderline hysterical obsession with DEI all seem to messed up what should have been simple dismissal.

The real question is, can they make it enough of a pain in the ass to get it dismissed through legal avenues that it's more practical for Disney to settle? Keep in mind Disney is not in great financial shape. Almost every tentpole they had in 2023 flopped, their stock valuation is in the gutter, they're seemingly locked into years more worth of expensive capeshit movies which the public is rapidly losing interest in, and by Bob Iger's own admission they've lost 10 billion since buying the rights to Star Wars.
They probably have highly competent counsel but if they can't get a quick dismissal and this thing proceeds to discovery then it becomes a massive thorn in the company's side that they seriously do not need right now, from both a financial and PR perspective.

To add more, I have seen many an actor’s contract, and many an entertainment employment contract. They definitely change based on how major the role is. You can replace a series regular super easily, you can’t replace the star without an elaborate stunt. The big meme is that you’re only employed until the production wraps up, then everyone is fired. It’s never a given someone who worked on season 1 will be brought back for season 2. Yes that's true, his contract was probably incredibly generous given he basically spent the next two seasons recording his lines from his house, but also, the reason Pedro Pascal is a poor comparison to make was that he did walk his controversial statements back. Carano was warned several times, was already getting controversial with fans, and refused to back down. And she had some bargaining power because the character was popular, but obviously not enough to shield her.

Strong female characters become woke when their capabilities aren't justified, earned or are irrational within the story. Cara Dune, the character, was a shock trooper with extensive military experience, and Carano had the physicality and training to make that believable. The character also wasn't flawless, doesn't drive the story and works with the Mandalorian rather than completely overshadows him. Compare her to season 3's Bo-Katan Kryze, who, while also played by a physically capable actress, the show literally bends reality around in order to make her the main character.

And yes, having strong conservative views would obviously be a bonus, which is probably the reason the Right was so quick to make this a fight about censorship.

Anyway, I'm derailing, the point is, we're all doing the fun back and forth that Nick should have been doing, but didn't, because he didn't even make it far enough to know what the complaint Carano filed was about. I assume the Council of Dick, however justified their skepticism, made a similar mistake.
