It's not uncommon to see Patreon pages for fan works, or, at the very least, fan work creators, though most of them are for fan works based on Japanese franchises. And as @Skarlatvoros pointed out, Japan has a culture of encouraging fan works (at least from within Japan).

Many fan work Patreons function as donation boxes for creators, and the ones that offer rewards usually exclude derivative content like fanfic chapters/comic pages and bonus art (which is a common practice for many Deviantart creatives to this day). At that point you're selling unauthorized content.

At the very least, the Requiem team does address the legal aspects and consider what they're doing "100% non-profit".


Looking at the reward tiers, I don't see anything resembling paywalled unauthorized content. Just perks relating to the team and community like behind-the-scenes content.



It'll be interesting to see how long an international fan project of this scale and fame lasts, even if the content itself is shit. It's a legal grey area. This is.

I certainly wouldn't want this project to get a cease and desist, since it'd set the precedent for suing fan work creatives for accepting donations.

If people at titanfolk don't like the new ending then its noteworthy because they're the ones who hate the current one.

I'm not really sure. If I had to guess, in order for titanfolk to also hate it, it would have to be another situation where Eren loses, or something similar like that, but that's almost certainly not going to happen given what we already know.
