Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Well that makes it slightly less fun. Guessing Tsukiyomi is kind of the same way since the adds come from two angles?
Nah Tsukiyomi's doable. You can DPS down the adds pretty quick. There is one bit in her final phase that can be tricky though where you need to place down AOEs and make a safe spot that you can still keep her light/dark mech resolved in.

You could also enter the world of BLU soloing, been working on O12S but it's been destroying me with how tight the dps can be for the door boss (omega F+M), the one after you can just press buttons and win.
Ngl, the only reason I'd even come back to this game is for an exclusive BLU group just retard powering their way through old kahntent (synced of course, why wouldn't you want to?)

Bahamut and A8S were fucking horrid on BLU. But it is super fun doing it synced and adjusting in various ways depending on your static. Just that the windows are kinda shitty.

Long wait till Dawntrail means it's the perfect time to get to doing an ult if you've ever been tempted to as well.

I'd recommend to start with Ultima, but Bahamut/Alexander will be fine too. Ultima's just good as an introductory ultimate since stat squish means that DPS checks are almost non-existent, the first three phases are just glorified extremes, and the final phase is only really three major mechanics (the first of which looks scary but is actually way easier to solve than you'd expect).

I don't recommend starting with Dragonsong or Omega. Not only because you need to gear up with BiS for the fight (otherwise your party will think you're an asshole making DPS checks harder for everyone), but also because the level of difficulty is so much higher. Some of the easiest mechanics in DSR/TOP can be harder than the hardest mechanics in UWU/UCOB (compare Dive From Grace in DSR to Tenstrike Trio in UCOB or Ultimate Annihilation in UWU).

Honestly, if you vibe with them. Ultimates have some of the coolest encounters in the game. Purely because they're not putting on the brakes whatsoever. So everything gets taken to it's absolute limit and you get cool shit like "needing to use four limit breaks back-to-back in Ultima Weapon" (and UWU isn't even the one that uses the most LBs lol).

FFXIV is troon central. It is the essence of faggotry condensed into its purest form. I have limited experience actually socializing in WoW, I always kept quiet, but if FFXIV is supposed to be the "better" of the two WoW must be the literal definition of hell. Abandon all hope ye who enter here.
You're kind of splitting hairs.

On one hand FFXIV has way more troons and is the twitter of the MMO space in the west.

On the other hand, WoW has given birth to an entire generation of furries who are completely autistic and WoW has become their only frame of reference.

I feel like the "normal" players in FF are better than WoW, but if we're talking dregs its more of a "Do you prefer cat shit or dog shit?" kind of situation.

I’d say pokemon birthed the most furries.

so sick of opening party finder and constantly finding coom shit being advertised (feet pics on discord etc.) how is this not against any rules for pf in game? should I just move to a jp server?

Those are all in the extra bullshit category on PF. At least it is in Excal so I don't see it unless I actively go there and look for it

My server's PF has a bunch of raiders advertising carries for gil. And my god their prices are fucking atrocious.

If you want a 2-chest run of P9S (the first floor of the most recent savage tier), they're charging 280 million gil. And take into mind, cause loot restrictions have been lifted, it's not like you're paying to let someone else skip their loot, that's just for the 7-man carry.

Ultimates cost between 140m - 210m per lockout (so if you don't clear in 2 hours, tough shit).

The worst priced stuff is the easy stuff. Charging 14 million for a P1S carry is an absolute rip-off when you realise you skip basically the entire fight with current gear level.

They charge that because the kind of person who buys carries will swipe their card at gilandnigge.rs and blow half of their tism tugboat on a shiny piece of gear they can stand in town with.

Don't know why you'd want an ultimate weapon unless you are showing off you've done an ultimate tbh. The glowy effects are pretty cool but honestly, it's more that they're flashy to be eyecatching enough so someone goes "oh damn you did an ult" (Omega ones are really fucking cool tho).

In terms of weapons that actually look cool. You're best looking at relic weapons, the current tomestone, savage weapons or crafted extreme weapons. Rubellux/Byakko/Hades weapons cost between 300-500k on the marketboard and honestly are some of the best looking weapons in the game (fights are easily unsynced too).

If you're comfortable with trying a savage, check out the Abyssos weapons. Probably some of the best we've had for ages. The fight itself has no DPS check nowadays but you'll still need to be able to do most of the fight (phase 1 you usually skip Animals 2, phase 2 you clear pretty much right after High Concept 2).

That's the point, they buy those because rubes can't have them, the weapons could be literally be made out of sentient self-shaping shit and they would proudly wear them because it's not about looks, it's about the status symbol.

Them being able to clear is irrelevant to it, nobody will ask because nobody speaks with each other in this game unless it's to ERP.

True. I'm ngl, the main reason I keep my title on is cause it's an "oh shit he did DSR" thing.

It's definitely a double-edged sword if you bought your clear though. If you're not being at least passable in extremes/unreals from then on, everyone is gonna go like "bro... you cleared TOP/DSR but you can't do a clock spot spread?".

It's pretty easy to track who bought a clear. Almost no one does an Ultimate without logging it. No log, you can be almost guaranteed they bought it. Log only has one clear and parsed really high? Probably bought it. Likewise if they have a couple logged clears but they're disproportionately better than any other logged content.

Unfortunately all you can really do is seethe about it. GMs don't care about evidence from third-party tools and most people buying clears run in circles with the same type of people, so they don't care.

Edit: Forgot to get to the point I was making lol. So anyways I've seen it plenty where people with legitimate clears whiff easy mechanics. It happens. But I'm definitely looking into you to feel better about myself.

That's pretty much why I don't care about people buying clears. Cause you can immediately tell when they didn't get it legit. Plus, you're skipping the the good bit of actually doing the fight. Ultimate encounters are hard as hell but you also have some of the coolest mechanics in the game. Normal content is fine but after you've done a bit of high-end content, you start to feel like it's just them holding back from the "real" fight to make something anyone can get through.

Take P6S for example. Aetherial Exchange is a pretty easy mechanic, if the spaces are going to swap, then the unsafe squares in your quadrant will become safe in 80% of cases (except in one instance where you need to check it doesn't swap with a full four-square pattern). P6S (although a pretty easy fight tbh) makes this harder by instead having crosses and plus shapes that explode out, so you can't just go "I'm in an unsafe square but a swap will occur so I'm actually safe".

Asking anyone in this thread how they feel about FFXIV is going to give you a skewed perspective - a lot of us have 4000+ hours in this game and no-lifed it at various (often low) points in our lives. And the other major 'pole' of the community (trannies, furries, streamers) is pretty much as anti-KF as you can get.

Here's the rundown of what you should probably know:

1) The game's main story line without any diversions will probably take you between 200-300 hours to complete. This is the baseline content of the game, and your progress through this controls the baseline of power your character has access to. It is often long and wordy but if you're a story fag, it does legitimately pay off so it's worth sticking through. If you're not a storyfag, you might hate it. It's important to progress it because the encounter treadmill it puts you on is designed to slowly teach you the mechanics of the game so you're not retarded at endgame. FFXIV has a generally consistent and well-defined mechanical language and not knowing it is almost akin to griefing. You can buy story skips that take you to the current xpac's starting point in the story. If you do this, I recommend getting a list of MSQ dungeons and fights and queuing through them to recreate the experience of organically experiencing them in a story run because, as I said, you'll be retarded otherwise.

2) The community is best described as conflict-avoidant. People will often go out of their way to help you but the rule of thumb is that if you're dealing with someone that is causing problems, just leave an instance and re-queue. There's a pretty heavy-handed policy towards verbal abuse and you can get smacked pretty hard by GMs if you go gamer mode on some casual. There's a built-in penalty system for leaving to incentivize you to stick around as well as bonuses for helping people get first-time clears, so balance that with the potential sanity loss of dealing with retards.

3) There's very few options in terms of character builds. Every character of a particular job will play almost identically to any other character of that job. Skill is mostly expressed by being able to play that job well. Slight tweaks to builds exist but they're astronomically tiny compared to just getting gear with bigger numbers and hitting your buttons correctly.

4) The community is extremely in love with the game's story and most people have sat through it. It's not like most MMOs - story is fundamental to most of the community's enjoyment of the game. Not being a storyfag makes you the weird one, so keep that in mind when dealing with other players.

5) Long-time players are inevitably jaded due to the pretty substantial gameplay changes that have happened over this game's lifespan. A lot of us are not particularly pleased with the long-term direction class and encounter design has taken and so we often have a doomer-like disposition when talking about the game. If you're having fun, don't take it too seriously.

6) All of the content creators are fags and SE rightly treats them like lepers. Ignore them unless you like watching tard drama.

7) High-end content is generally accessible - you can often find the base gear necessary to 'do' the content on the market for not too much money and there's a party-finding system that lets you build groups and work through specific pieces of content.

8.) Gear doesn't have a ton of long-term value other than for aesthetics. As a general rule, whenever a new raid tier comes out, the previous gear is all numerically obsoleted immediately by craftable gear. You can skip raid tiers during an expansion and jump back in with relatively little investment.

To echo (heh) point number 8, this really is one of the best things about the game even though it isn't immediately obvious why. But because each new tier of gear releases also comes with a baseline set that can be crafted/purchased, this means you can be immediately ready to launch into endgame activities on any job that reaches the level cap even as a brand new player. You don't have to fuck around with tomestones for weeks just to get a usable set of gear, you can buy a set and then jump right into savage raiding if you felt so inclined.

Got Zurvan for my trial roulette and the tanks were both dipshits and competed for the coveted MT position while Zurvan spun around laughing and cleaving everyone.

Ehh. There's a few content creators who are good, but the vast majority of them are just running through the exact same shit and say/do nothing meaningful.
