That would only be an "out" for "not much."

The fact he couldn't be arsed to say even a few words of sympathy for Vic is appalling. He could have done that even under your (unsupported, but hopeful) supposition that Ty and his malpractice insurance is covering the financial loss. This is about more than just money. Vic still has to deal with the crushing emotional defeat of never having the chance to clear his name in court.

To me, that's shitty. Nick made all that money off Vic, the Vic well is now dry, and now he doesn't give a shit. Simple as. He uses people and then throws them away.

IMO part of what comes with that is a general perception that non drinkers are too uptight about alcohol, because they are. But, the other side of that is to give people a lot of rope when they're drinking too much/getting a little too crazy because "everyone has some rough patches, let them figure it out", and maybe letting them have too much rope when they're really going off the rails. Nick was totally off in the woods before anyone was seriously considering there may be a problem.

I know this gets bandied about but to be fair to Nick, I don't think he said "not much" in terms of how much Vic has to pay, it was in reference to "what is there to talk about? not much." as in: "He was ordered to pay a judgment and now he has to pay it... not much [to talk about]" since that's what he was responding to at the time
