Are videogames for children?

It's just so weird and foreign to me to base what media you like on whether or not you have yellow fever. Literally can't imagine it.
What I'm about to say is an unpopular opinion, but as a fan of old anime (80s-2000s) anime hit very different from western media and even modern anime.

It's hard to explain. So much modern anime is slice-of-life moe-blob bullshit dragged out to a million episodes. Modern western entertainment is either wokeshit revivals of 80s IP, or more capeshit than even the most die hard super hero fan can stomach. Then on the other hand you have stuff like this.

I was asking for suggestions, not aiming to discuss my opinion on goofy games. I get it, people love Resident Evil. They're solid games, but they don't make me feel fear/tension/make my palms sweat and the god awful voice acting and bizarre dialog all the way up to RE:Village, is comedic to me. Like B-Movie so bad it's good stuff.
There's a simple problem you run into. Eventually you know horror games inside out. Some horror becomes extremely dated, others you get used to. A great example is how the Exorcist used to be the scariest film ever made, and now is considered a comedy.

I vaguely remember people talking about The Flood in Halo as the scariest thing ever. The whole "scary japanese girl" cliche was scary at one time, but is now also a joke. This might be why I don't mind Fear 2 and 3 as much as others, because they hit the same beats as the first game, it's just the first game launched when the scary japanese girl thing was still scary to most.

I can go on to recommend individual games like Condemned or Cold Fear, but it's hard to judge. I've not played Tormented Souls or Choo Choo Charles, but they might be up your street. The latter is obviously a horror comedy.

Or they're just idiot boomers. Somehow there can be film, music, and literature for adults and children but not video games. Meanwhile they play darts, crossword puzzles, and Chess, plus watch football without a hint irony. It's amusing imo.

You're looking for this thread to spill your bad opinion.
I'd have a go at darts, actually. The rest of those past-times (BEEN SPENDIN' MOST OF OUR LIVES- Ludacris and that backing singer were inspired by the original song) can kiss my jewfro ginger bollocks.

I've never really understood people who are truly terrified of The Flood.
It's a fun reveal and the build up to it is pretty good, but I wouldn't say it's actually scary.

Every year on the birthday of a friend who died a few years ago, I get some friends together to play a Halo game since that was one of if not his favorite game series.
A friend of mine who has never played Halo was dreading The Flood the entire time and became nearly debilitated when we made it to 343 Guilty Spark.
I couldn't tell if he was being serious or playing it up because of the reputation of The Flood, but he required constant handholding in every Flood mission.

It was funny and everyone had a good time, I just don't really get the fear, especially since he's played his fair share of horror games.

Yeah wasn't a fan of that either. My most fun was playing the grand campaign as Germany, but I stopped at the Berlin stage. Might return to it one day, but it's such a slog.

Problem with 1 is that it's like a plain boardgame that just sees everything as a collection of stats. Really frustrating since some nations just end up being objectively better than others especially in a game that's built around keeping your units alive.

Nothing wrong with being like a tabletop game as long as the rules aren't retarded. The problem is nearly everyone who makes a WW2 game has some favorite/least favorite machine they tend to exaggerate.

It's not hard to explain at all.

Older anime had to draw from influences outside of Japanese animation periodically, because it was a newish medium. They drew from Western comics, poorly translated movies, and put their own twist on it. Robocop the movie did something similar, Robocop's design is inspired by a Japanese artist who drew very chromed out robot women, as opposed to the "robot women" we see nowadays who can pass for human so they're easier to whack it to.

Newer anime has a very similar problem that the wokeshit revivals you mention do: a lot of it is incestuous drawing from the well of media the newer creators grew up with. Meaning older anime and tokusatsu. Or, to put it more bluntly, nowadays robot women are almost all variations of Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, which may or may not be a bad example since she's actually human in a robot body, but you get the point.

It's similar in concept to what happens if you train an image generation AI on its own output.

More like downgraded versions of Motoko if you ask me. In addition, one complaint Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli said that most anime are not based on what the director's story wants to say, rather, it is just simply putting an anime fan's checklist, weebs and whatnot. Hence the presence of the usual stereotypes like Tsunderes, Defeat = Friendship, Tournament Arcs and others.

To elaborate on what I meant by the Motoko example: if you weren't told her body was mechanical, you'd never know. Plus you can fuck it.

This is the same reason the gachashit market is such horrendous cancer. You got your big tiddy, your loli for the sickos, probably your swimsuit edition, probably someone with a BDSM kink, probably someone who shows off their feet, and so on, and so forth.

Basically, anime is newer anime's worst enemy, much like how capeshit is newer capeshit's worst enemy.

I just finished God of War 2018 because my brother recommended it and it's generally pretty good. I probably never would have played it otherwise because I am not usually a fan of that kind of game and ultimately I still kind of am not - I just do not love the combat system, I hate the 3rd person view making seeing around you annoying with the design philosophy of throwing 5+ enemies you have to contend with that you can't keep track of. The major bosses also had a touch too much of the glorified cut-scene energy for my liking where they didn't feel like actual tests of skill. The only exception to this is the valkyries who where the only actually good designed fights that actually felt like you where having to understand the mechanics and play optimally. Yup, well...

Actually, only like half were well designed. For context I was playing on hard at my brother's behest of normal being too easy (and he was right, even hard was mostly no problem) and the first valkyrie I fought was the one in Muspelheim which I did way as soon as it was available and way under-leveled. It was hard because I had to play near perfectly because she would 1 or maybe 2 shot me, but she had a good number of mechanics that were fair, it really felt like a souls boss having to learn how to deal with each one. After completing it I was very impressed and looking forwards to more. Well, then I found more... what I mainly want to complain about is the valkyrie Kara who is probably one of the worst designed fights I have ever had the misofrtune of suffering through in any game.

This fight is such utter horseshit, It had to have been designed by one of the developer's 5 year old son who's only experience was creating a Mario Maker level where he just put 500 hammer bros on a flat ground. In this horrible fight she intermitadly summons like 5 enemies, and not just things you can take down in a few hits, things you have to focus on for a bit to kill. These are all coming out while she continues to use varied fast attacks you have to focus on. Some of these enemies have a distance closing rush move where they snap to your position and attack... this move did 75% of my health. I already mentioned my problem with the over the shoulder view obscuring enemies behind you, but it's made 10x worse in this scenario. They never stop either, it's not like 2 or 3 summons at set health, no, she'll never stop doing it. There is almost no skill involved, it becomes basically a luck based affair of where she summons the enemies because there are holes you can knock a few of them in to insta-kill them in the couple seconds they are spawning and make their numbers ever so slightly more bearable, but if she rushes to the center or back you're just boned.

When I eventually did it I felt no joy or accomplishment, only releif and hatred towards whoever created this slop. After you beat all the other valkyries you fight their queen who is hyped up as this extremley difficult fight by people, but it took me 1/5th of the time to beat her compared to fucking Kara because you could actually use your skill to counter her moves rather than just get gang-raped to death by poor design. I am truly baffled how this shit got greenlighted, did they just have no playtesters? My brother wanted me to eventually go through the game again in the very hard mode and I might have, but the thought of doing this stupid fight ever again in my life is the deciding factor of why I will never play this game again.

0/10. God of War? More like God of SNORE and Kratos? More like GAYtos. (but it's actually pretty good, 6.5/10)

True. Still lika the game a lot, but it really does feel like certain sides get the short end of the stick without the rules adapting to them, whereas with Germany I felt like they really let me get away with a lot of absurd stuff.

For what it's worth I felt like PC2 had better ways to tailor your difficulty. A thing I did was limiting the amount of units I could upgrade each mission so that I couldn't instantly upgrade my entire force with the most powerful tanks and planes. That felt like a fair and realistic handicap as Germany as it made those Panzer IVs act as workhorses for longer rather than being replaced the moment when something better was invented in Berlin.

wrong. you go where the money is, and there is literally zero money in everyone catering to a niche and producing "content" no one wants. otherwise wokeshit would sell like hotcakes. it's basic bitch supply & demand. whining about the realities of the market is retarded.

what miyazaki is complaining about is HURR WHY IS EVERYTHING LOWBROW FUCKING NORMIES REEEEE STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE. what he also fails to understand - or more likely conveniently ignores in his boomer ranting that you need both. without all the lowbrow mainstream "slop" his "high quality cerebral from adults for adults" anime would be received quite differently, and would have to stand up similar works as his. he would be absolutely nothing special anymore.
and I pretty sure he has heard of sturgeon's law too.

EDIT:
and it becomes even more retarded when you think about he's ranting about the SAME FUCKING AUDIENCE who is watching his movies. there's no big silent majority of "only miyazaki movies" watchers that doesn't spend money on gatcha with big tiddy anime jpegs.

I can't get enough of this shit tbh
defeating the bad guy with the power of friendship by punching harder, only for him to become a bro afterwards simply works. never change a running system.

The game sits at 21% approval right now, and its only been hours since it publicly launched. Here's the general gist of what happened according to Steam reviews:

>3 servers only able to hold 200 people with shitty netcoding on Battlefront 2, no MP servers on the side of Battlefront 1
>60 gigs for games made in the 2000's due to lazy AI upscaling for textures
>Inputs across the board are fucked, be it with controllers or with M&K, and some sounds are apparently broken
>Worse anticheat than Punkbuster, as in there is literally no anticheat (lmfao)
>Missing campaign cutscenes from 2
>Barely any new content worth 30 bucks: they didn't even implement online galactic conquest
>AI has been thoroughly gutted to the point that AI infantry can't get into vehicles anymore

When modern gaming can't even get the old games working on new shit, you know you have reached "The Machine Stops" level of fuckery.

What has mass appeal is usually shit because most people are easily manipulable. That take is correct, he's just saying it for the wrong reason of being a fart-huffing auteur.

This is of course assuming he even said it to begin with, guy gets quoted for things he didn't actually say a lot. See the "anime was a mistake" meme.

This honestly pisses me off.

HOW DO YOU FUCK SOMETHING LIKE THIS UP?!

This industry needs to crash and crash hard, it's fucking worthless and a complete joke at this point.
