Were there any game devs (or even studio employees) that lost their jobs for not bowing down to social justice endeavors during GG1?

I ask because Comicsgate had a big focus on a guy attempting to make his own woke-free comic because he was sick of the DC/Marvel self-insert suckfest and big players of that industry went out of their way to block him from selling it in shops. He made money anyways, but I'm trying to think of examples like that during GG1 but all I can remember is games themselves getting censored and social media/youtube accounts getting banned/flagged. Did anyone have their income fucked with or lose access to their games via steam account deletion? Anything like that? Could have sworn someone did.
Every single dev that was even minimally supportive with GG or antagonistic towards journalists was either the owner of their own studio or retired.

See Mark Kern, Brad Wardell or Daniel Vavra. There were also a couple of indies whose names I don't remember.

The only one that might qualify as "cancelled" was the dude from the game The Last Night. His game lost funding and last time I heard it was pretty much dead. The guy became pretty unlikable afterward so I don't care (found this video while researching this, if anyone cares to know more than me).

It's a powerful display of something, all right. I like the people screaming outside in the sun, with masks on. They are the very pictures of health.
God, i thought this kind of faggotry was dead by now. I know why i only focus on vidya itself and don't get informed or involved with the community surrounding the hobby anymore, apart from discussion on the Games board here. I am still seething mad that Sega let Nagoshi go over a relatively harmless comment, even by jap standards, the slopes are not safe from out-of-industry influencing by now either.

I don't understand the black pilling around "gamergate 2" because of Dragons Dogma 2. That game just came out, was hyped for months if not years, and people had their pre-orders in as soon as they were available. I'm also not seeing the consultancy connection since the problem appears to be business model, not wokeshit. I complained about the mtx in Helldivers 2 and was told to shut up because it can all be earned in game, so I don't know why the sudden change in stance.

People pointing to release day player numbers of Dragons Dogma 2 to justify their "all gamers are cattle" blackpill bullshit feels the same cope as those people that said Suicide Squad was a hit and Palworld was a failure using cherry picked player count numbers. The difference is that was based devs vs SBI wokeshit so there was a direct connection there.

[Zoe Quinn flashbacks intensifying]

Yes, Alyssa, this is all about you. Everything is. Daddy said so before he left you and your mother's ass and never came back. I swear they produce these people in a factory somewhere.
Kotaku management realize that Kotaku cannot do actual journalism
Took them fucking long enough.
- Collaborated with tranny pornstar Sue Lightning aka Sphere Hunter to make officially sanctioned pawn designs
- Retroactively added kernel-level DRM to games over a decade old
- Went on a a schizophrenic spree against "brand damaging" mods (specifically bikinis for Street Fighter and bug fixes for Moster Hunter)
I knew about the second and third paragraph but not the first. What. The. Fuck.
Original Japanese line: "I'm just a guy who can only find meaning on the battlefield."
English translation: "I'm just a man who's good at what he does. Killing."

I consider this a rewrite
Undeniably the truth. The localization loses all subtlety and nuance. I'm not even a Kojimbo dick rider and think most of his writing is ass but i support him 100% in getting mad about rewrites this blatant.

There isn't really a boycott going on now, this is more of a consumer information campaign. When you have something like that, people aren't going to skip out on games they really want. Boycotts need to have an end state and the end state usually shouldn't be "everyone involved goes out of business and becomes homeless." They also need a set of conditions that will cause the boycott to end and the company being boycotted should know what those are so they can comply with them. In the absence of a formal boycott, you don't get the benefits of a boycott. By which I mean, don't count on any individual, popular game suffering due to people boycotting it. What will hopefully happen is that games that are complete trash fail due to people finding out they are trash before buying them. (If people were fooled and Dragon's Dogma 2 is trash, hopefully that will impact other Capcom games later.)

Also, there's a danger of a failed boycott when there is a formal boycott, where either there isn't enough participation or the participation doesn't cause significant financial damage to the target of the boycott.

The main one I remember having difficulties was a charity project by the Fine Young Capitalists, but that was eventually funded by pro-GamerGate donations and the game, Afterlife Empire, came out on Steam.

Why the fuck did Capcom think it was a brilliant idea to sneak microtransactions into an action role-playing game? This shit didn't fly with gamers back when Dead Space 3 fucking came out. :lossmanjack:
I'm wondering if there are certain company mandates about monetization and the dev team basically had to have so many microtransactions in the game.

Checked those guys out and yeah they were already successful, but it's interesting how they have done little since 2016, despite them still trying to make things. I had no idea about The Last Night, and the guy behind it seems like he got raked over the coals for both saying that he's not into feminism and that Gamergate was really about shedding light on corrupt reporters. He even commented on that video and said that all got blown out of proportion....doesn't sound like he's that competent, considering that he's still working on the game and it's been like, ten years.

Though the comments on that video are funny and telling. Bunch of them on both sides of the GG issue from a year ago full from people still THAT butthurt about the whole thing. Like, I know gamers both left and right have a varying degree of autism but at some point you have to realize that freaking out and getting pissed isn't going to change people's minds, it's likely to make other people tune out because they think 'this guy's just being an asshole. Block'.

Case in point, this. DD2's problems are a different subject from SBI but the anger about it sounds like it's coming from the same place. I think different issues with AAA games get mixed in with all the rage people have from being disappointed again and again. If there were cooler heads speaking up about all this then it would be a lot harder for the industry to claim that it's just a bunch of mean chuds harassing them. Maybe it's way too late for that.

That's the difference between boycotts and cancel culture. Boycotts are meant to be corrective, cancellations are meant for disposal.

It's "lame or uncool person" but only if you're in the years 1998-2006.
Who was using that? some aging genX trekkie nerds? we just used lame and maybe lameloid.

How is this shit not a cult?
he's definitely part of that breed of pigheaded parasitic localizer that has never produced a single original work themselves but are all too happy to criticize the work they're localizing and then take credit for its success later on.
That's how you get costumers, its like how a shitty movie says "from the creators of [insert actually good successful movie]" but its just the fucking catering guy from said movie and nobody else is involved. It implants the idea that if you hire this useless fuck your game will be successful.

Well kojima's writing is kinda cringe but he predicted what's happening now with social media and AI to such an insane degree people think he has a time machine, so western pro-writers can go eat a dick, their predictions were complete bullshit.

Tons, even before GG1 american mcgee was already getting ousted for telling his life story of all the hardships he went thru when his mom decided she was a dyke and abandoned him and his sister to go live with another dyke that didn't like kids.

Then there's tennapel the creator of earthworm jim who has been personna non grata for a while because he's christian and proud of it. Its like that episode from the silicon valley series where the gay guy is in the closet about being a christian because that's what's NOT COOL now.

See, all you have to show me is this, and I just go back to playing Elden Ring. There are really people out here paying for fast travel and fenix down, huh?

It's funny how stuff like this usually goes along with companies that decide to go all in on DEI, isn't it.

From the Capcom leak.

And that's why misty has double-Ds in the next pokemon game.
Here, have a free concept art to explain my concept of "diversity of booba" from my new consulting company ToasterBaby for the new pokemans game:

That'll be $500,000 in cash or monero.

>inb4 "that's too much booba"

That's the flatest character on the list...

Edit: I forgot about the minorities! muh POC representation!

I also fixed your shitty character design drunkmann, now pay up!

The jiggle physics for Ellie's assets alone need 200 extra CUDA cores.

LMAO they put zelda and mario as bad examples when botw alone sold more than lastoftroons2 and the entire flatraider trilogy combined...

I'm surprised (more than I should be, really) at how continuously furious people are over damsels in distress. Especially since these days it's gotten to be a rather rare trope, at least in video games. People still bring it up from literal decades ago while gnashing at the teeth.

To add to the names already mentioned so far, there was also Martin O'Donnell: the original composer for the Halo games, Oni, etc. who was at Bungie since ~1997 and also happened to be a staunch conservative (so much so that he had a reputation as the furthest right-wing guy at the company), got unceremoniously fired 'without cause' back in 2014. The reason given was that he was butting heads with Activision over the music for Destiny but in hindsight it's hard not to think that his politics (which he hadn't been shy about) and the rapidly accelerating far-left turn gaming was being pushed in around that time must've had something to do with it, they even tried to financially screw him over and he had to fight them in the courts as a result. Now he's running for Congress.
