That was not the case. In fact, the one guy who fell to the Dark Side was the one that the Republic sent as a counterweight to the decentralized Jedi kingdoms. The latter kept to the Light and were given power by the people. Stop making shit up. Lord Hoth and the many Jedi Lords remained in the Light, while Skere Kaan, the one guy that the Jedi Council and the Republic wanted to replace these lords, turned to the Dark Side and united the divided Sith factions. The Ruusan Reformation is a legitimate response to a millennia of unending war. Even though it wasn’t explored, I have no doubt that militarized, decentralized Jedi kingdoms led many Jedi to the dark side. They needed to be brought to heel and serve as a peacekeeping force.
Turning the Jedi into a peacekeeping force weakened the Jedi, forcing them to be reliant on the Clone Army. And we all know how that story ended. Order 66 would've had no effect if each Jedi had his own kingdom and army, Rahm Kota-style.
No it didn't. It made the Republic weak. The Republic lasted for 24,000 years with a centralized military led by the Jedi. The Ruusan Reformation comes in, and they fall within 1,000 years. The Republic becomes so bad due to it delegating authority to the rich senators and corporations that it leads to half the galaxy telling the Republic to get fucked. The Ruusan Reformations made eunuchs out of the Jedi and weakened their moral resolve, while giving the greedy and the powerful a chance to lord over their subjects. So of course, half the galaxy tells the Republic to get fucked and leaves. The Ruusan Reformations worked. The collapse of the Republic only happened in the last 50 or so years of a near millennia of peace. The galaxy hadn’t seen a period of stability in the last 3000 years.
The only reason corporations started building their own armies is because the central government won't protect them. That led to corporations like the Trade Federation becoming galactic powers in the same vein as the Sith Empire or the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders, instead of what they should be-glorified shipping cartels. They literally have the equivalent of Amazon/Microsoft death squads thanks to the Republic dismantling its military and turning the Jedi into glorified cops with lightsabers. Which led to the obvious scenario where these corporations no longer want to follow what the government says or wants, because they have an army, and the government does not. They can literally just tell the government to get fucked and blockade an innocent planet because they can. They benefitted the most from the so-called "Republic Golden Age" while the average plebian had to scrounge and starve.
To be fair, Republic corruption was always there, it convinced many Jedi to choose the Dark Side over the Light, but after the Ruusan Reformation, that corruption skyrocketed to the point where all it took was 1,000 years of peace and the Republic fell apart, whereas the militarized and centralized Republic lasted for 24,000 years.
The fact is, one could say the Ruusan Reformation killed the Republic. It didn't kill the Republic outright, but it was like a slow-acting poison that eventually killed the host. You can talk about Sith manipulations all day long, but the matter of the fact is, the Sith had been conspiring to destroy the Republic for 4000 years, and failed. After the Ruusan Reformation, all they had to do was wait for the Republic to start eating itself, and then use that as their meal ticket into the system.
I mean, who the fuck would have faith in the Republic if it's your local corporation, warlord, or aristocrat who's keeping the lights on and keeping the streets safe? Who the fuck would pay taxes to that faraway Republic that does nothing for the people outside of sending dudes in bathrobes with lightsticks to fight summer wars now and then so they can keep extracting taxes from the people they don't protect? No wonder the Separatist movement got as far as it did. Even if you removed Sith influence, they would've still taken half the galaxy with them; the only worlds that truly benefited from the Republic post-Ruusan Reformation were the core worlds that were already wealthy and had a lot of influence in the Senate.
At that point, the Republic wouldn't even exist in your life, so why pay taxes to a government that does nothing for you? All the Republic does is just take away your money so some dude in a bathrobe can fly around in a top-of-the-line starfighter while people on the fringe like you have to starve and scrape for a living.
