I know this is the most attractive and guilt-assuaging answer (and probably mostly correct), but perhaps it is the optimistic in me that would like to find an inflection point--a clean break--where Nicholas went so... wrong. I am not sure Nick operates on the typical Manosphere logic, though. For Nick specifically, I think his obsession stems from his obvious mid-life crisis.
