its such a weird thing to fuck up too, it feels like the last act of the movie where it shows how rock bottom things have gotten. there's no way in hell Nick didn't realize how important it was to his reputation and in the end he decided "fuck it" or better yet he was literally ready to appear in court all suited up with april but decided "we have 5 minutes, let's have a quick drink to loosen the nerves" then an hour later he goes "surely we have 10 more minutes before he reaches you in the docket" before ultimately arriving at the court after its already ended.

thats exactly what it was, Mike David of redbar fame literally stole all of Patrick's biggest lolcows and thats what really got Mike started on his "fools watch" era and is why he went from being a starving 130 pounds begging his viewers for money to buy food, to literally having a teenage wife and a car and a house and a studio and enough money to give some away to live viewers every show.
Patrick was doing amazing up until 2016, one of the top comedy podcasts and any time he ventured into anything else he would end up the top podcast in that category too like bitcoin or even law. You're also getting the a-log direction wrong. Aaron tried to go after Patrick and didn't realize that even a hasbeen like Patrick is still better than him and fucked him into the dirt. Patrick did so well that Mike decided to declare Patrick off limits in terms of harassment, which is a fucking amazing reprieve.
and yes, since the beginning 20 years ago Patrick was extremely territorial with his lolcows and also spoony levels of ban happy. the best way to avoid alogs is to ban any dissident in the first place, although it does lead to being a hasbeen very quick if the tide turns against you.
Patrick was in the top 200 podcasts on itunes a decade ago in the comedy category. And was rubbing elbows with every comedian you could name, Marc Maron and Bill Burr were having him do the audio work early on. He has a few appearances on shows too IIRC, but all it took was someone taking over his format and going after him like aaron tried to, to turn him into a Mundane Matt-esque loser delivery man
