If Nick/Kayla are in the mindset that their kids are more "mature" than other kids their age, they could be exposing them to things they shouldn't in the name of development or even on principle.

Nick does not manipulate people for personal gain (outside of examples like Tonka). He has empathy. Even though he is quick to demonize people and no longer empathize with them, when you are in his good graces he does very clearly have empathy.

I'm not sure I agree with this, at least in my own experiences with narcs. I've always observed that they only relate to people insofar as they can use them to get quick-fixes of ego boost. I think a person with empathy would do things such as reach out to someone they know is going through a rough time. Narcs may do that, but generally only to create a point of indebtedness they can use later. They seem to be perpetually sussing out currency to use to gain attention in either a negative or positive way, as I've seen them value both forms of attention equally.

Not a medical diagnosis from me of course but in my dealings with them, even when you're in their good graces, their 'empathy' usually is motivated selfishly in a way normal people wouldn't concoct.
