Strategically i think their best move is to eat this loss and not jeopardize the political reputation of their 2028 field too early. the Biden-Harris campaign would be a boat anchor around the neck of the replacement.

This only works if the next four years of Trump are catastrophic for the nation. Otherwise, a wildly popular Trump gets to point out how you should vote for his chosen successor, perhaps even his VP (whoever that may be) over whatever creature the democrats put forward. And if Trump wins in November, than it is very clear to everyone that 2020 was stolen. It's not trust at all. It just wouldn't be in their self-interest to betray Biden. The delegates are legally bound to vote for Biden, they're not going to risk potential legal trouble as well as the probable end of their careers to put in someone else and the DNC top brass, while not legally bound to do anything, were pretty much installed by Biden and their careers would pretty much be over if they betrayed Biden. On top of which, Biden is a petty, vindictive, mean spirited man as demonstrated by his attempts to put his chief rival in prison. One might infer from this that, if Biden were to have five months in office where he wouldn't have to worry about ever being re-elected, he might use the full force of his office to seek retribution on former allies who backstabbed him.

The DNC top brass being staffed with Biden loyalists also suggests there's no room for anyone else's (Newsom, Harris, Hilldawg, Michelle, etc) loyalists. So no chance of a revolt there either.

Bottom line, they will stick with Biden unless/until he drops dead

I'm almost certain that there's a way to move it around (and how you are allowed to move it is time sensitive).

A campaign might do stuff, like how Bernie's campaign bought millions of copies of his book, to launder excess money but I don't think there's really any legal way the Biden campaign could give the donor money to a successor campaign.

I often see the leftwing media put up clips of Trump to laugh at how stupid his words were. And I go "yeah I dunno, it might not have been a formal press statement but it probably resonated more with the average, 7th-grade-reading-level American than Joe Biden does."

The Democrats decided in 2012 or so that the key to permanent victory is to make themselves the enemies of the people who built the country, all law, all order, and all decency. From 2008-2016, they also completely nuked their party's back bench so that Her Turn could be swept through the primary in 2016. Consequently, they have no talent, and the only sort of person who genuinely believes in the party platform is a barking lunatic.
