The Windows OS Thread - Formerly THE OS for gamers and normies, now sadly ruined by Pajeets

Bro the majority of a new windows install is tearing out the useless stuff from Microsoft, and it's only gotten worse in windows 11.
the whole fucked winverse is bad enough that I have no problems sacrificing my ability to play AAA titles. and biz software that I have to use that does require it I only use in VM that I only spin up when I need it, so the MSFT spyware inside of it can only tattle so much.

it's not a perfect rainbow anywhere, short of being some Slackware/Gentoo god who literally hand-crafts the kernel and every binary that goes in and babysits all that—which i guess you must be a trustfund boi or some tranni on disability because you don't need to go do work for a living you have a colossal amount of free time to do that. Or else, you settle for some distro—there are only 5 realistic core ones and everything else is some "community" of fanbois that mods one of the base distros. (Hint, the trannies are on Arch)

Is anyone using the Windows 11 LTSC build 26100.1 preview? Is it stable enough to use even though it's only a preview?

11 looks like a bootleg macOS

10 has the superior start menu
It's literally Windows 8 Part 2: The Revengeance. Massive buttons, massive context menu, massive start menu and more transparency effects which Windows 10 has had since like 2018 but no see Windows 11 now has it in the explorer!! Seems to be the only reason why people seem to like how 11 looks to me, so fucking retarded.

Hope all these "PLEASE MICHAELSOFT CONSISTENT UI PLEASE" faggots kill themselves, all they want is a fucking tablet UI with everything being transparent and round.

Found an old Win98 PC that still runs. What fun. Shame it's on a system initially sold with Win95 and is too sluggish to play any of my Win98 games so far, I need to try some point and clicks to see if they run better.

Thank God it came with a CD-ROM drive, I can actually get data onto it.

Oh, and it has an ancient release of Excel on it. Modern excel is slick but it's charming how little the base functionality has changed.

Don't you need to pay a subscription fee for modern excel?

Microsoft brought back the option to buy perpetual office licenses
Neato, doesn't fucking matter tho because I can just get a crack off Pirate Bay.

Holy fucking shit I'm gonna sperg......

Windows auto-updated my laptop to 11. I haven't used my laptop in a while, but the wife wanted to play some games while I played on my PC. No biggie. She wanted a game, which I *acquired* on my PC, put the files onto an external harddrive, then went to transfer to the files to the laptop and HOLY FUCKING SHIT this is so fucking absurd it's painful. EVERYTHING is tied into one drive, all of the pinned shortcuts are one drive folders, and I STILL haven't been able to pin the local my documents to the sidebar after uninstalling one drive. This is absolute fucking insanity.

Was it Windows 10 Home/Pro? I've heard those are "guinea pig editions" that were more forceful with updates compared to Education/Enterprise so I've never used Home or Pro. One of our computers which I wanted to remain in a specific state for autistic reasons had me digging around for disabling updates for fear of this kind of scenario. There may be other more simple ways to go about this, but the method presented here has done exactly what I wanted it to so far. Though in your case I don't imagine this would be helpful now.

Firefox is notoriously bloated. Maybe they shouldn't have fired the guy who built their company over not loving buttsex enough. Anyway, I'm running Brave right now. It's sitting at 2%-3% CPU and 2 GB of RAM.
I just checked my work PC with Win10/Firefox
7 instances ~ 800MB (2 Tabs), 2,5% CPU load

I'm using librewolf and I want to know why there are 13 instances created and cpu momentarily spikes to 90% and causes lag?
It depends on how many tabs have you opened, are you running HTML5 video in background, how many addons you have installed, are you running any scripts reducing the load of websites and so on. IMHO the worst results you will have on barebone FF. Chome and Edge seems to be more efficient with OoBE resulting in less memory garbage and less stress on CPU. However, if you like to tinker with your browser, download scripts that will turn off many useless options set on in default mode you should have better experience with FF.

But hey, its just my opinion.

This is absolute fucking insanity.
Learn how to use computer. You know that you can actually turn off many shit in Windows, don't you?

How do I make Windows 11 not shit. It works fine but the layout looks like corporate trash

I would switch to Linux but that's to much work.

A domain-connected PC, with GPOs configured and applied to lock updates to a Win10 release channel, just updated to Windows 11 following a power outage. If I didn't already have an upgrade to Win11 planned alongside new PC purchases I'd be considering killing myself out of flabbergasted fury right now.

Wendell of L1 Techs did a 48 minute video of things I don't want to hear. It's Wendell so by his standards this is a long video of him just quietly criticising things is apocalyptic rage by his standards.

The general focus is about Windows on ARM and the middle section is an interview with a game developer about his experiences porting a game to ARM. That doesn't bother me much directly because if I do buy a Windows laptop, it's not for gaming. I just want a snappy experience, good screen and keyboard and some standard applications, But the video goes beyond that into the general state of Windows OS and development on it.

Long but a decent watch. Like I say, if you calibrate for Wendell, this is a volcanic rant by his standards.

It is pretty goddamn damning when Apple is the paragon of backwards-compat and developer support in this race.

For licenses, try gray markets. You can get a key for much cheaper. Do the same for others, like Office.

Use App Buster, Optimizer, etc., to de-bloat and optimize.

Pause updates to up to five weeks.

For the UI, for now Open-Shell with ExplorerPatcher, until the latter no longer works with updates.

For the file explorer, choose free options with dark mode or buy something like XYplorer.

For the browser, look for guides to tweak Firefox to minimize telemetry and make it faster. For adblockers, uBlock Origin in default mode, or tweak it.

You don't need some github troonware to debloat or optimize windows for you. Those things will probably cause problems that you will later blame Windows for.

I just installed Windows 11, it took me couple minutes to manually remove the Onedrive/Cortana/Copilot/MS Store bullshit from it and from the Edge browser.
Drivers installed instantly at the background, zero crash or freeze anywhere, no workarounds are required for anything.
It also looks beautiful and from here it will just work for as long as I want.

we let slightest annoyances coupled with commie linux propaganda fuck with our minds.
