Aramark is the most prominent purveyor of zogslop in America. This is the kind of "food," actually literal garbage, that is forced down the throats of anyone in the country forced to exist in government-run institutions.

In a functional society, we would not feed this shit to animals.

I'm sure schools have contracts with the companies but is it really cheaper to feed students pizza and chocolate milk instead of the basics like rice, beans, cheapest ground meat, etc? The problem is that they used to make food in school; however, due to corruption, the size of schools, government intervention, lack of funding, and other various issues, they contracted it out to third-party services. This has been an utter disaster, as a lot of these third-party contractors are the lowest bidder and will do anything to undercut the competition. To make matters worse, they have very little competition, because so many kids are dependent on these lunches and meals, and they're stuck eating what they get

In my experience with American school cafeterias, the schools couldn't even try to cook food for students due to the staff being dumb as shit. Bit of a powerlevel, but I remember multiple times students would get food that didn't even fully thaw out. Of course, this could be due to scheduling or budgeting, but the point still stands.

The schools benefit from economies of scale, so it is actually cheaper for them to buy Aramark meals in bulk, then pay some mouth-breather to nuke it and then serve it to children. It's not like you see in TV shows in the Simpsons where lunch-lady Doris is cooking slop out of a big pot. It's stuff like this:

And remember too, schools have price limits like "$1.50/meal", so to take it back to the "economies of scale" thing. It actually works out to be cheaper to serve this shit than to cook meals. Like this video points out, it's not a "kitchen" it's a "warming and serving station".

My grandpa one time tried feeding a fox on his property some chicken patties the local school used. The fox refused to touch them. Foxes will eat right out of a trashcan. The patties tasted like they were mostly soy with hints of chicken.

I once lived somewhere the courthouse shared quarters with the county jail (made it easy for people to show up), and they contracted with some local catering company for food. Everyone from the cops to the judges to the lawyers would find excuses to go to the jail for the food, and everyone, even the inmates, were all buddy-buddy.

Then they switched to (you know what is coming) fucking Aramark and it all came to a crushingly depressing end. IMO the previous situation was actually really helping the community and even giving the local fuckups a motivation to get right.

Lowest bidder contracting is a fucking cancer. The locals who were doing a great job simply couldn't underbid zogslop vendors.

At least $1.50 a meal for slop would be an okay deal, comparable to the cost of meals at home. The reality is much worse: if a school serves a free lunch (for low-income students), the federal government reimburses the school $4.01.

One day my brother and I were driving somewhere and had to stop at some sketchy gas station in the ghetto (I know, not smart). We were inside paying for gas then this busted Negress and her spawn walk in. She said to her kids "Okay, pick out what you want for breakfast." and her little nigglets all grabbed skittles and soda.
I've come to learn that this is normal in cornstarch-american neighborhoods.

Back in the 50s and 60s in Bongladesh school dinners were actually the healthiest and most nutritious meal of the day for a good deal of people but by the turn of the century everything had turned into chips, burgers and turkey twizzlers because everyone got lazy and sticking shit in a fryer is a lot less effort than making a meal from scratch for hundreds of pupils, then Jamie Oliver came along and made everything overbearing healthy. Nowadays I'm pretty sure most kids are eating ready meals made out of factories, I almost got a work placement in a place that made them when I were in secondary school.
