is the new episode just a wad you can run in the usual doom engines we all use?

What's the perks of using 1+2?

Is 1+2 free like Quake 2 was?
1.- Yes, sorta, there's a version of the new episode that comes inside of the re-release that was made for source-ports (id1.wad), but so far only works with the latest Git builds of GZDoom, since the new port added some DeHackEd features that most ports have yet to add.

2.- Crossplatform multiplayer and user mods on console (except Switch, that version only gets the mods approved by Id/Bethesda), the port also has Boom support which means a bigger quantity of WADs supported.

3.- Yes, for all platforms except Mobile, they still have the older re-release based on Unity.

I feel this is worth posting. I know people HATE shorts format, but...

This guy did a test, and it takes 110 punches....TO KILL A FUCKING IMP.
I'm going to be honest, I DROPPED doom eternal after playing the start because of this.

To sum up my experience, I jumped in, first zombie I tried punching to death because, its JUST a zombie, I punched him like 3 dozen times before eventually dying to a stray blow. I shrugged, and chalked this up to tutorial scripting or some shit, I've seen stuff like that, where it says, "kill this enemy with pistol" and you can blow them up, burn them, air strike them, and they survive, because the script says you MUST use a pistol. SO whatever, dumb, but I figured it was temporary.

I then moved onto the first REAL fight room cleared it out besides a single zombie who only had melee, and tried again....same result, DOZENS of blows, and its barely effected.
Dropped the game after... And that video shows just HOW bad that is, 110 for an imp. I have no fucking idea how much the bigger monster would take, but safe to say, that video is pretty damning on how shit melee is, and I can't even fathom why. Would 11 punches, 10 x damage be "too strong" for Bethesda or something?

I probably will play it again sometime, but discovering that the first time is like looking up at fireworks in awe, but then a bird takes a shit in your mouth.

Also, I know its not a big deal, but I kind of hated they removed the pistol altogether. I know, I know, people barely used it once you got the shotgun but I always considered the ultimate act of disrespect towards a demon to pull out my pistol when its weakened enough, as if to say "You arent worth wasting a shot of the big guns on".

And from the looks of it, the removal came rather late in development since the pistol is (or at least used to) be able to be equipped through console commands and it worked. I get that they had the shotgun be the starting weapon to flex "Oh yeah, you are starting with the shotty" but still, I guess my OCD keeps screaming a weapon is missing from the arsenal.

"But nobody used it after a point!"

Me: AND?!


The pistol and melee being gone was kind of fucked to me.
Is GZDoom still the best/recommended way to play OG Doom? Or is there better source port out there these days?

ZDoom for multiplayer
A bunch of others for a closer to vanilla experience

people have been trying to upload myhouse.wad but because it was explicitly made for GZDoom the mod doesn't work

Honestly if ID cared, I bet workers do but microsoft don't, having something to easily convert GZ doom to this it would print money. In the sense of getting people to play microsoft $10, Whatever the steam cut is so like $7 bucks?

This COULD be easy, since a lot of games use GZdoom nowadays for commercial release. I also think the zdoom community would be welcoming of it, but they just aren't trying

My brother in christ. I know selaco and hedon is in GZ doom to steam. My retarded ass thought you knew how to convert it. That is completely on me and I am sorry to have assumed you could have done that. Please disregard my previous assumptions and thank you for sharing this media.

I don't want to be gay but I read that book the 4 agreements and It kinda helped me so I'm trying to be better. .

No I meant Download the wad and convert to upload to new version. Sorry should've been more specific.
Wad? Do you mean all the new assets from this year from the old doom beta?
Those would need to be compiled, coded to be called for use (youd need to rewrite hud code to use other face stuff) ect.
I imagine someone will try adding them, but the assets need to be plugged in to actually show in game.
