I still think Thomas’s dissent was right, but it was not a good case, and I wasn’t shocked at the decision, even if I was disappointed.

I’m hoping this is some upstanding salt of the earth hillbilly who’s a pillar of their community but also really likes guns. With a good defendant it’s absolutely possible to get the correct outcome.

The problem with a good defendant here is that they don't show off the naughty stuff they own except to friends and are normally rural and friends with the sheriff and judge, so it never comes to court, just a "put that shit away" or at worst being told to get rid of the offending item.

I call this passive aggressive positivity. I'm sure there's a better term about this. It's when people weaponize the general emotion or concept of positivity to deflect criticism or gaslight the person as negative. It's a common tactic used on social media, typically from women.

There's a video game that explores this tactic: We Happy Few. It takes place in a dystopian English town where the state can detect if somebody is "unhappy" and the "happy citizens" revolt against the unhappy. They use pills (or spells I believe) to brainwash its citizens to have "joy." Somebody could probably explain that video game better than me.
