Mega Rad Gun Thread

Anyone else here run a Christensen Arms MPR in .300 PRC? I ask because I have one that I've been trying to run to learn LR shooting. On paper it's all pretty good. In reality the fucker has problems with anything heavier than 212 grains. Either the bolt becomes damn near impossible to cycle normally or a fired case gets stuck and I need to knock it out with a cleaning rod. This is some bullshit because I bought/made a bunch of rounds with Hornady 225 ELD-Ms and Berger 230 OTMs. It worked fine for the first 300-350 rounds but now I have to use a brass 12 gauge brush to clean the chamber/throat every 30ish rounds.

A buddy of mine that knows this stuff well told me I need to have a gunsmith run a chamber reamer through it to resolve this issue. Anyone ever done that before?

Edit: Added a picture of the fired brass for our beloved @Club Sandwich

A loaded round will insert into the chamber without issue but one has to shake the rifle a little tiny bit to get it to fall out with the bolt removed.

what does the brass look like? are there visible striations or ripples? is the fired case showing rim tear or deformation at all? is there any noticeable cracking at the neck or shoulder?

for the chamber, can a 3/8" dowel with 1 layer of paper wrapped around it move smoothly against the chamber walls? it is often the rear-most 3rd of the chamber that can have issues if not finished reamed. if the dowel+paper encounters roughness here, consider some wet 400 grit 5-6 passes then check again. with the bolt removed from the action and pointed in a safe direction, does a loaded case fully seat with mere finger pressure? when tilted does it stick or immediately fall free rearward?

The fired brass shows no structural issues/abnormalities if it ejects without issue. If the case sticks in the chamber, the last 1/3 of it towards the case head is sooty (I'll upload a pic later).

I can push a round into the chamber easily enough and then close the bolt on it. I have not tested to see if it falls out freely with the bolt removed. I'll do that and report back.

Reminder that Fatrick's gun is a PS90 and Lowtax killed himself with a 5.7
It’s the lolcow caliber.
True. I still like when it shows up in vidya though lol.
I'm surprised he was willing to pay the money for one considering the worse-than-airsoft tier accessories he put on his Glock.

I'll shamefully admit what when I was younger and knew much less about firearms I almost bought a Five Seven. Instead the dumbest gun I ever bought was a P229 in .357 Sig because I figured anything the US Air Marshals use must be a great gun.
I was a poorfag that winced every time I took it to the range and while a powerful round (I'd argue better than .40 in every way) it's not enough to justify the rarity of ammo, weapon selection and recoil IMIMO.
I'd probably go with 40 over 357 sig for my odd caliber gun just because ammo is everywhere. One day.

Not completely related, but How does 300 PRC shoot drop, power, and range wise compared to 300 win mag? I have a Franchi Momentum bolt action with a 4x12 Vortex in 300 win mag, never thought going with one of the more boutique calibers due to ammo cost. That and 300 can kill any game in Utah.

A great question. In my opinion, at ethical hunting ranges the two are so similar in performance (for similar bullet weights) that I can't see the PRC round being a clearly better choice. I think even the recoil of the two rounds is pretty darn similar.

If you want a lot less drop and less wind drift because you're shooting at like 1600 yds, the PRC is the superior choice. If hunting big game in North America or killing people out to about 1100 yds is your concern, you have plenty of great factory loaded options and platforms already in existence. No compelling reason to switch away from the old magnum.

This is probably correct as long as it doesn't have a fucking composite upper like someone close to me has purchased... Not sure of it's related, but I can twist the handguard (and fsp) back and forth with my hand. Fairly certain that this person paid around 400 for it. Maybe I should buy a PSA-R and trade him, then throw that absolute abominacion in the fucking trash where it belongs. I'm curious how much I need to shoot it to make it literally melt.
At first I thought you were joking, but it seems that ATI isn't content with just making disposable lowers any more. Jesus Christ.

That's basically the feel I got when I heard 300 PRC came out. A bit more range, a bit better ballistic coefficient, but both are still 1000+ yard rounds with a ton of punch and pretty close over all. Thanks man.

I mean, the vast majority of people buying guns do not shoot them. As long as it can function well enough to fire a box or two at a pile of trash once a year, that's probably good enough to satisfy the average joe. It doesn't make those guns "good" or even "fine" in terms of their usability in a self defense or SHTF scenario. I don't think most people have thought that through, and just want a fun toy to play with sometimes. Which, there's nothing wrong with, but they won't be honest about it.
Have you seen ammo prices since (whenever)? With the amount the average burger spends on useless shit they don't have the money to spend on shooting in a semi-regular basis.
I drive a 30+ year old beat to shit pos so I can spend my money elsewhere. Now imagine being someone influenced by peer pressure because you need to keep up with the jones.

As much as I wish that people would shoot more often it's a non-starter in this day and age, we don't have Swiss model requirements for shooting (reservists) and most people are too comfortable to shoot weekly to prep for the mostly peaceful issues that could arise.

I have returned from hell packing a Ruger PCC in the Magpul takedown configuration. Haven't shot yet. Will soon.

Quick question. There's an included adapter that allows it to accept Glock© Brand™ Glock® magazines. I don't know much about Glonks and I don't know how literally to take this. At some point, someone mentioned there's an extra large mag that can fit in the storage of the stock. I'm also wondering if there's a shorter mag available that can be kept in the magwell without interfering with the takedown storage. This seems like information that should be easily available, but surprisingly I'm having some trouble finding it.

In the words of my father, and his father before him, just send it.

If you don't have a Ruger SR9 (or whatever Ruger pistol uses those mags) I would get the Glock adaptor.

And then a Glock.

The adapter came with it for free, and I don't own anything else that takes Ruger mags, so I might as well get Glonk mags for the variety of choice.

And then a Glock.
You shut your whore mouth.
