Is there a reason transmeds don't think Elliot Page is trans?
I don't follow celebrities so I don't know if anything has changed, but it seems since he's come out, transmeds have insisted he's not actually trans and a lot of it seems to just focus on his looks or because he didn't begin transitioning as a teenager/worked as a woman for a while. When I Google him, he's dressed male and seeming to fit into his role as male fine. So why is this a consistent debate in transmed spaces?

I didn't realize Page was so controversial among the trannies. Lets see what the TiFs have to say.

When Eliott came out, there was a (rather short) period of time when he either still had long hair or the press only used older photos/videos with longer hair and his typical masculine clothing style because newer ones didn't exist yet. So some people claimed 'Nothing has changed, Eliott Page is not taking this seriously, nobody can believe that someone like that is a trans man, they make us look ridiculous.' Now, of course all of this has changed, he obviously medically transitions, but some people seemingly don't care.

Plus it hinges on the good old 'If you are able to repress your dysphoria until a certain age, you obviously never had any dysphoria at all. If you really had dysphoria, you wouldn't have (had any romantic relationships during that time, do anything to advance your career, go into public spaces at all...)'. Also, he seemingly has nonbinary friends, which is another factor which makes some transmed people go 'See, they are one of those fakers and not really trans.' It's something you see a lot in transmed spaces, sometimes even here...the idea that a trans man not agreeing with transmed talking points means he is obviously not a real, binary trans man himself.

This also points to another problem I have with parts of transmed ideology: In the end, nobody can prove to you that they have dysphoria. I can certainly tell you I have dysphoria, cry myself to sleep at night, could only transition past 30 because of health problems...but you could pull out some old cosplay photos of myself from 15 years ago where I cosplayed a female character (and felt miserable the whole time) and just say 'Well, my dysphoria wouldn't allow me to do that, so you are lying.' and that is the end of that conversation.

I feel like that is basically what is happening with some people and their views on Eliott Page...he transitioned in his 30s, so he can't 'prove' to them anymore that he has dysphoria.

Edit: That said, a lot of people in transmed spaces do see Eliott as a 'real' trans man. But posts stating otherwise also sometimes get a lot of upvotes, even if the comments mostly disagree with the OP, which sure is...something.

i’m not a transmed (anymore) but i was pretty deeply into it back in like 2016-2019 or so. my guess is that is has a lot to do with his age. transmeds are often really cynical of trans people who realize they’re trans later in life. they expect trans people to have the very stereotypical experience of realizing you’re trans early in childhood or right around puberty, waiting a bit to transition and then transitioning.

i also think part of it is how quickly his transition seemed to go. people seemingly “jumping” into medical transition quickly after coming out sometimes raises red flags and i guess makes transmeds think it’s an “impulsive” and “trendy” (i hate that term) decision. which is funny because they call anyone who waits “too long” to medically transition “not trans” either. anyway, he came out and very quickly got top surgery afterwards, as well as started hormones (i presume?)

i also think there’s an additional layer of jealousy over him and anger due to that. he’s obviously in a very, very privileged position. he’s white, skinny and famous. he had access to HRT and surgery quickly and had the money to transition quickly. happy for him! but also, i imagine there’s a lot of jealousy surrounding that, especially since a lot of transmeds are younger and feel like maybe they’ve been “out” longer than him and are jealous of his access to healthcare.

idk, those are my guesses.

I am a transmed and honestly don’t know a whole lot about Elliot Page, but from what I understand, this is someone who had the ability to get treatment for years and only recently did so. That’s extremely questionable. That being said, I don’t know a whole lot aside from the fact that this is an (at least somewhat) wealthy actor who could’ve gotten treatment long before just recently.

Sorry if it sounds like I have a tinfoil hat on right now, but I've been keeping my mouth shut about this for a long time and need to vent somewhere.

Everything Page does ever since they came out is very political, even the coming out post had a giant paragraph about anti-trans hate and said "enough is enough" like they're coming out because of that. It was also posted I think the same day or the day after some detransitioner hysteria lawsuit thing happened. It seems very weird to suddenly claim you're twans when you're in your early 30s and right after something happened that could have affected the rights of actual transsexual children.

They're friends with and platformed a nonbinary "comedian" (Jes Tom) who has said that ftm porn has "done a lot for [her] personally" and generally talks about her transition in a very fetishistic way. Another nonbinary "comedian" who I think identifies as a lesbian also posted her and Page together and tagged it as t4t. Just very weird "t4t lesbian" vibes from them and everyone they surround themselves with.

They can't even talk about their transition in a normal way. They recently posted themselves shirtless with of course the big rite of passage scars on full display, and said some very generic soulless things about dysphoria and mentioned how important it was for them to have "gender-affirming" medical care. They look and act like an AI generated trans activist.

I don't think Page is truly dysphoric, I think they are yet another mentally unstable lesbian dealing with internalized homophobia who after 2020 became convinced that they are a real twans man and is for some reason using this to become extremely political. It's sad that these people are who are representing us. It definitely won't change anytime soon because being open about having transitioned is a death sentence for normal people.

Thought of something as I was reading those pooner comments. The ironic thing is that the 2000s are having its nostalgic resurgence. Ellen’s peak was in that era and she could’ve developed new fans that decided to watch the old X Men movies, Juno, Hard Candy, or even Inception that way. The tucutes believe you can identify under the trans umbrella (nonbinary, neopronouns, gender fluidity etc) because you're living your truth and "sticking it to the cis heteronormative patriarchal society" we live in. Someone much smarter than me could tell you how it relates to certain schools of communist theory and post-modernism, but that's the idea behind the trannies who aren't transmedicalists (those who believe they are mentally ill and transition is the only way for them to cope with their crippling gender identity disorder).
