Mega Rad Gun Thread

I wonder how much lighter than 180 grains you should run HPs in .40. Clubby probably knows. Let us know what you end up carrying in it.
depends on the barrel length. Black Hills XTP (155gr conventional JHP) and TAC-XP (140gr all-copper HP) are very very mean through car doors and against people behind glass, interior walls, appliances, and other things. excellent mass retention and very good expansion if you have a 4.5" or longer barrel to get the needed 1100+ f/s velocity. TAC-XP will put down mountain lions/pumas and coyotes when needed and work well in picky guns that only like ball ammo. SIG's V-Crown is also very good and imho competes well against HSTs and is one step below a G2 Gold Dot in terms of expansion in flesh. where it shines is in compacts since expansion threshold in a Glock 23 is still something like 5/8" and only needs around 950 f/s.

if you want to run surpressed you'll probably want something built around the 200gr Nosler JHP which is pretty reliable at lower velocities in something like an MP5-40 or CMMG Banshee.
Someone talk me out of buying this nonsense training ammo. Seems like it'd be good for a laugh.
i've used the DAG ammo in my G3, it works reasonably well for training purposes if you have the kit for it, and it'll punch a hole in plywood too if closer than 50 meters or so. it leaves lots of little blue plastic shavings though which isn't fun to clean when it gets hot and gummy.

Well this just informed my hollow point ammo purchases in 40. It's a SD40 2.0, a updated Sigma, this:

So a 4 inch barrel. If I see Underwood I'll snag it. Otherwise I'll probably go with Speer or maybe Sig like you mentioned.

Are drop leg holsters better for larger combat pistols?
They are for getting low enough to clear plate carriers or chest rigs. Also used to get a better draw.
If you decide to run one with your kit, be sure to take the time to train with it. There's not a "best" position for the holster that's applicable to everyone so you'll have to experiment to find what works well for you (like seeing if you like the retention strap all up in your biz). I recommend you run all the kit you expect to use with a drop leg for training. I don't think it needs a whole lot of time, but I see a lot of guys who buy something, fit it to themselves/their kit, and clearly do nothing with it after that. When it comes time to make use of it things rarely go well.

I’ve decided to order a blue alpha low profile EDC belt with alien gear’s photon holster and sidecar mag holder for appendix carry. If that can’t satisfy my needs I don’t know what can. I don’t like how rigged/rough my nexbelt is when I have to wear it on the inside with gym shorts on.

My right nut is about to make friends with my Glock barrel.

I also ordered 600 rounds of range ammo with an ammo container. I need to stop burning money. But I want a backpack this weekend so bad:'(

I really like the Hunter Constantine belt. It’s by far the most comfortable.

A properly located foam wedge also really helps with appendix.

I’ll put it on the wish list for upgrade. What’s the difference between a paddle and a wedge? I know I need to get one of the two but I’m putting it off until it arrives so I know how to fit it. Do you have any recommendations for what I can throw on the backside of alien gear? I have no clue if it’s proprietary mounting or if it fits in a clip.

Looking at the front I guess I can just slide a pad under that clip. Should I buy an oval shaped one so the sidecar is also covered?

a paddle rides over the top of a belt + pants and secures to the underside of the belt with little prongs or in some cases a separate paddle is threaded around the belt and secured to the top of the pants, then the holster is secured to the paddle.

a wedge is an unrelated device that tilts the holster in a specific direction for ease of draw.

They are easier to draw from for a novice. you know those old cowboy holsters in all those old westerns? the ones that are essentially drop legs? like this:
OIP.jpg

Its not historical in the least bit for a 19 century holster but it was easier for the actors to draw faster to look good on TV gunslinger duels. the leather strings that they usually have holding the holster to the leg is also a hollywood invention.

in reality quick draw duels never happened outside of one instance: the hickok-tutt duel in 1865. Both wild bill and davis tutt saw eachother at the same time and drew at the same time. both fired at the same time, so close to eachother that many witness reported only one gunshot. tutt missed. hickok didn't. Tutt was shot through the heart at 75 yards.

help me out with MP5 optics fellas. the HK style irons are the greatest to have blessed my vision. i'm putting holes within holes with them, but i yearn for something illuminated. lightweight and magnified, even. i love their prisms but no way PA's SL3x has the eye relief for something like the HKParts raised mount. should i just go for broke, say fuck the iron sights and sell enough jenkem for an ACOG? maybe a mini? would the gun itself being made by MKE matter? should i shit myself and do nothing?
edit: maybe even put buffalo bore +P+ 147gr for coyote business?

Using ShellShock NAS3 .300 Blackout cases to achieve 2380fps with a 120gr solid copper projectile out of a 12.85in barrel. Wikipedia lists a velocity of 2215fps for a 125gr OTM out of a 16'' barrel

accept chin weld if you want both irons and optic at the same time. most who use them professionally will use a QD low profile picatinny mount and whatever optic works for an AR. remove when needed.

the MP5 (and nearly all roller delay weapons) are ammunition sensitive to some degree and while in semi auto it should work okay with almost anything (the unmarked standard MP5 locking piece is 100 degrees) you may need a different one if fast firing results in bolt overrun or failure to extract/eject when shooting 147gr ammunition. if it's +p+ you may be okay, but i would check for extractor claw marks on the rims of cases for hard extraction and if found consider either not using +p+ ammunition or using a #25 locking piece.
