Mega Rad Gun Thread

And that's the thing. I don't want to spend too much on it. I think you're probably right about this.
I know time, money, etc. But I think a mil surp gun rebuilt will suit you best and help keep sport alive. Now I gotta say a cheap weld job on something like FR8 is perfect. But A butchering a great rifle and need an optic.

Guns kick ass and it sucks we have a cash limit.

I'm trying to find a bolt action .308 with an 18" barrel, magazine fed, CRF, and Pic rails machined into the receiver. The closest I can get is a Ruger 6822, their Gunsite Scout Rifle. If it didn't have its Pic rail in such a silly spot I'd jump on it. The CZ 600 Alpha also is almost there, but it's not magazine fed and I don't want an aluminum action for this. If it's just not in the cards or I have to have it custom-made, fine, but maybe one of you knows something I don't.
a sporterized Mauser action would probably be most cost efficient and have a wide array of parts for pillars and bedding, barrels, detachable magazine, and fitting a scope rail to the receiver. another option would be a Sako 85 or Ruger 77. you can also have something built professionally on an action by Zermatt, Kimber, Montana Rifle Co, American Rifle Co, et c.

i would also suggest a pre 2010 Savage rifle in one of their Winchester Short Magnum chamberings (.300 WSM uses the same bullets as .308 for example) but i'm guessing you want to stick to conventional .308 Winchester.

Allegedly.

I've always been curious as to what would happen, but still.

I'm more impressed the bolt stop held. There's some deformation, sure, but popping the barrel in that dramatic fashion makes me wonder what they aren't saying.
at least it was a bolo

7mm PRC is a good round, i'm a fan of 7mm (and other .270 adjacent cartridges) for precision shooting (vs .300 PRC for bigger game and .300 Win Mag for general military use in LRPS). with 7mm PRC you can still get some real good 175 and 180gr pills flat and precise for plains game (any sort of elk, bison, buffalo, et c). a couple disadvantages are it is definitely not overly reloader friendly due to OAL and some actions not being brass friendly, additionally you can get extremely similar performance with more standardized loads in short actions, which some prefer. from some playing around, pushing A-Max out at 3100 f/s from a 21.5" barrel on a Remington Mountain LSS (barrel swap in my case, it was originally .300 RUM) was sort of the top end and honestly other than being lighter with more friendly recoil, it didn't do anything i couldn't already do with .300 RUM or 7mm-08 or some other stuff i got going on.

just my 2 cents, ARC makes fine rifles and if you don't already have a LRP rifle and don't plan on doing much reloading, it's pretty good.

I saw a sign outside a local gun store.

That California is planning to raise the ammunition background check fee from $1 to $5 now.
this is in addtion to the 11% excise tax on firearms and ammunition as well. supposedly the fee should be closer to $7 if you read the minutes of the relevant meetings since the amount of the background check fee is determined by actual costs, not arbitrarily.

Let’s say I pick up a new colt cr6940 m4, if I ship it to my FFL can I apply for the 11.5 to 14 inch barrel and just take my new fun home while I wait a few months? If I have the serial can I still apply and wait while rocking the 16 inch?
