Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Goin' through some personal stuff so I haven't been able to play recently.
Just finished doing the gatherer deliveries questline where you learn about the rabbit people. As a rabbit person myself, there was only 1 line of dialogue that acknowledged I was of the same species as them. The rest of the time, they spoke to me like I'd never seen a viera in my life despite literally being one. The differences weren't anything significant with the only different things between the viera and shetona cultures is the part the men play and that vieras are more closed off from the outside world while shetona are basically the opposite.

In viera culture, the men descend to the villages during summer mating seasons to pick a broad to fuck (usually picking the same one each time) before they fuck off again into the bushes, taking with them any male offspring with them of age. For shetona, the men are nomadic and they go around fucking as many women as they can, leading them to having multiple partners and several children meaning the job of the man is to literally just be traveling fuck meat to keep the species alive. (Which funnily enough gives weight to the fucking like rabbits phrase although, with them making so many kids, I wonder if the issue of inbreeding ever happens since a lot of kids share blood through their father. I wouldn't put it past 2 shetona getting it on only to find out they're step siblings afterwards.) I think the women also take multiple partners, just mating with any male who's willing. Shetona refer to each litter they have with a different partner as "families" with Shetona having multiple families. It's kind of confusing but I guess with so little men being born to a race that supposed to be long lived, they gatta do what they gatta do to survive.

Male shetona got it pretty good. 0 responsibility except sowing your seed and hoping 2 of your kids from different moms don't end up fucking each other down the line.

It really wouldn't have been hard for them to add more contextual dialogue for things like race and job. Wouldn't have to be all the time. Wouldn't even have to change the mechanics of anything. Just once in awhile I'd like them to acknowledge things like that my character is a healer during cutscenes or quests that involve injured after a battle or something.

There were a couple places in Stormblood that did this (like after Zenos fucked up Rhalgr's Reach). They know how to do it. It wouldn't take more than a few minutes effort to include.

But I guess that's expecting too much of present day FFXIV.

Hell, in the post-EW MQS before you unlock the Lapis Manalis dungeon if you've unlocked the Reaper job they make a mention of your character being familiar with it. DT really does feel like all the talent got pulled away to do something else. And then what was left was infected with a heavy dose of the DEI mind virus.

There was a lot of this in EW, and prior to that as well. Fun fact, if you're part of the same grand company as one of the city state leader, they'll always address you by rank instead. This has been consistent in both MSQ and optional side quests. (Unvoiced of course, but its the thought that count).

To be fair the Emet we meet in Elpis is pre final days Emet before he becomes a genocidal maniac. It doesn't change his character around or retroactively undo his actions in ShB so I really have no problem with it.
Also I personally feel humanizing the ancients was the right choice. It's hard to really understand the ancient society and its people when they're all shadow figures that make weenwoon noises at you. Putting a human name and a face to them gives their plight more impact. Hythlodaeus in ShB was just a shade that exposition dumped and gave you the Azem crystal macguffin. I never actually thought much about him back then. Then we see the real guy in EW and he made much more of an impression on me. He really surprised me in EW and I didn't expect him to end up on my list of favorite XIV characters prior to Elpis.
Speaking of the Ancients I wonder if we're ever going to encounter the last set of Ascians that have yet to make an appearance. I wonder what happened to them now Zodiark is gone. There are four more left of the Convocation if I remember correctly.
I don't want to understand the ancient society though (I agree it was probably the right choice for Endwalker but nonetheless)

I remember going down into the Tempest late one night trying to push through the end of Shadowbringers and I genuinely found the weird giant masked people pretty unsettling; you don't know what they are or if they're friendly and then one just starts making loud vocalisations at you in a foreign echoing tongue. Seeing the underwater city, listening to the haunting music, hearing Emet-Selch's lament; that's all I need to understand about them.
My initial first impression was that the Ancients might not even have human forms, since Emet-Selch refers to his body as a prison of flesh, maybe the robes and masks were just the best way humans could perceive the shades around Amaurot (this probably doesn't actually hold up since they do refer to the robes in their dialogue, but I still don't think it was beyond the realm of possibility)

I don't really need to know that Hythlodaeus was some handsome tumblr-ass gay friend who cracked jokes because we already have Thancred and Urianger. Is it really so odd that when Emet-Selch describes a nigh-immortal people so great that modern humans don't qualify as alive in comparison, I want to speculate on something beyond handsome JRPG characters?

In Endwalker we're given the direct comparison between the researchers of Elpis and Old Sharlayan, and shown that there really isn't much difference in behaviour or ways of thinking. While the Ancients have a more peaceful culture focused on creativity due to their lack of material needs there are still sidequests where individuals come across as rude, thoughtless and bureaucratic. Hell, with the Pandaemonium questline they even had their own BPD bad bitches trying to take over the world.

To be fair there are already humanising elements in Shadowbringers if you do the quests around Amarot, the Ancients are shown to have different personalities and argue about contemporary politics. It was always apparent that some of Emet's dialogue was just grandstanding to glorify them as something greater than human. The point is, it was a mystery how far he did so. Now I know the answer, he was talking out of his ass because the ancients weren't on another level of existence, they were really just the Federation from Star Trek.

This seems to be the thread for people that play XIV.
I already made a post in the other thread but I think it goes well here.
>Tried out XIV because of friend
>said friend is part of a group that is into game
>still in TS so not as faggot a group as Discord groups
>get memed into creating my character in Crystal DC
>Friend FC happens to be in a really RP focused server
>never knew about DC/server stereotypes because never played MMO before obviously
>they help me and also one of them is kinda of a dick for no particular reason as far as im aware
>told group that I've never played MMO before and have only ever played Console FPS's
>keyboard layout new and unusual
>attempting to learn it because that how MMO's are
>I die at quite a few places to things I've never seen before/do not understand
>was advised by group to skip MSQ because its really bad until end of ARR to HW
>speedrun through MSQ as possibly doable
>at about lvl 43-ish have account run out of free subscription because this was in 2017 through steam before indefinite free account with limitations
>life happens before I was able to renew sub because poor
>return about a right before EW because life situation cleared out finally have time and some money to get a sub
>Finished StB
>in christmas 2021 Had PC die mid ShB due to hardware issue before DURING EW release
>due to financial struggle be unable to really get a good working PC again until 2024
>return and clear MSQ until EW right before DT
>update on group situation my friend that introduced me to the group and FC "friends" stopped hanging out with the group and stopped playing the game
>notice have no XP buff and tp fee reduction buffs
>kicked from FC
>main guy that used to be a dick for no reason have some .carrd.co shit in profile because still added in Friends List
>kinda notice that from others in dungeons as well
>look into .caard.co and whatever other shit mentioned in Adventurer Card.
>RP, ERP and other cringy shit.
>was told by group that guy is chronically single and basically a woman repeller
>half of the shit is him being a "poet" and the rest of it being other cringy shit all "in-character" of his WoL/RP persona(Fanart commisions, etc...)
>eventually in youtube stumble into "drama" and other related content for XIV from looking up Extreme trials videos when Wanting to complete all Extreme trials
>finished DT
>the whole month before DT came out basically non existent tells/yells of recruitments
>as soon as Expac/Early access releases have to actually block out the people that Yell manually because Add-ins were not avaiable
>kinda didnt enjoy the story at the end and was not able to find the first 100 Alexandria raid (M1S? I don't understand these naming conventions) simply let sub run out because have nobody to discuss, ask things directly and play with, got boring really quick after the MSQ and all the others shitting up the DPS queues, I only have BLM, WAR & WHM at 100 and I did not feel like waiting 30+mins per dungeon queue to level up more jobs because I want to try the other DPS jobs only

Is there a Kiwi FC? Willing to DC travel from Crystal I want out of this degenerate ERP-ridden home world.
I want to go through all the Extreme and Ult content in the game but dont want to be forced to be around "discord" users, instead of normal people playing the game. Haven't renewed or played anything after finishing DT MSQ the month it came out.

I’’m going to be honest I see absolutely nothing romantic or gay about Hythlodaeus and Emet. The former admires and holds the latter in high regard but there’s nothing in the dialogue indicating any sort of romantic intent. Hythlodaeus does the exact same thing to Azem too so it’s not exclusive to Emet. The ancients take their duties to the star seriously and he feels his is to support his colleagues and he even mentions it in a cutscene. I also see nothing romantic or gay about Urianger and Thancred.

I know this isn’t the case here but the rest of the community outside this thread is way too obsessed with sex and romance with how they view every interaction between character with shipping goggles.

But you see Hythloeaeus has an aloof personality, and in this society of nearly asexual beings that are only breeding for the sake for maintaining their population that means he's actually gay as hell obviously.

It's the same women and troons that sexualize any character interaction. Men can't be close friends, they have to be secretly blowing each other when no one is looking. It's as insufferable as the people that fanfic about Azem, a person we know almost nothing about aside from the fact that whatever face reveal we might get is definitely just going to be your character's face or the same person for everyone (John Meteor) and they liked to traipse around the world.

Like someone else mentioned: no. Even if we wanted to, it wouldn't be possible. The moment the alphabet/progressive cult figure out we're kiwis, we'll be nuked into the aether like Charlie's reputation after he said children can mutilate themselves so long as their parents are okay with it.

Just do what I did and transfer to a new DC. It's free and you get bonus stuff for going to a less congested server. You won't have to deal with wierdos and if you need to do content, just server/DC visit. Takes less than a minute to hop over, even during prime time.

Same gooner energy as the freakazoids who swear up and down that Ryne and Gaia, two underage girls, are ferociously scissoring each other behind closed doors because the idea that 2 people of the same sex being platonic friends is utterly incomprehensible to them. And because omg a rainbow crystal guys amirite???

Maybe it's my fault for saying it like that, considering the FFXIV community, but nigga I’m not literally saying Hythlodaeus was a homo. He has the soft-spoken pretty boy phenotype designed to appeal to yaoi fangirls but what I mean is he’s the archetypal “queer friend” common in woman-focused media, in the sense of a non-threatening platonic side character that serves almost no plot purpose but to make sassy remarks and act as the conciliatory voice of reason for the rest of the group.

I have nothing against him or the other EW characters, like I said weeks ago, I just think less is more.

You can at least make a case for Ryne/Gaia given that there are a ton of FF8 parallels.

I don't subscribe to it, personally, and the folks who go around about how they can't wait for "Lesbian Ult" and are just generally way too unhealthily focused on 2 minors as you mentioned is fucking creepy. Yet voicing that just has people going 'what, you homophobic?'

I get you. I apologize for all the misunderstandings. I’m not a fujo or shipper and I know very little about the yaoi/bl genre so honestly a lot of this stuff about yaoi archetypes and media tropes flies over my head. Doesn’t help that the XIV community loves to shove it everywhere and I’m so used to people being extremely weird about characters.

So, to start up a different topic...

What's everyone maining in terms of jobs, currently? You guys using the same jobs you always have, or are you trying something new? Got any complaints about jobs right now?

I've been thinking about giving Red Mage another go, but it doesn't seem to be doing so hot in DT; any suggestions? I love how it looks and plays, but it doesn't feel as strong as the other magic jobs at this point...

That and give it the Community prefix.
Well, we do have the separate Community thread, as you're aware of, so the question would become whether the two threads should be merged.

I play all four Tanks, although I'm currently focusing on Dark Knight since I've already gotten all the Warrior-related achievements.

I have Sage as a healer, Viper has taken over for melee DPS, Machinist is my go-to for ranged DPS, and Red Mage is my caster. I don't particularly care if Machinist is weaker than Bard or if Red Mage isn't as "strong" as the other casters. It doesn't matter much for casual content when I can apparently outperform meta jobs because the people playing them are eating glue most of the time. Being a pocket healer can be pretty handy sometimes too, if frustrating when the actual healers aren't doing their damn jobs.

I personally main Bard, and have since I started back in Stormblood. Machinist is fun though. I also play all 4 healers although I play Sage and Scholar the most. I've only leveled Warrior to 100 for tank currently. Melee I still prefer Reaper but Viper is fun. For ranged caster I've gone over to Pictomancer, the job is fun and mostly braindead. It's a shame how little they added to Summoner after the big revamp last expansion.

I'm still maining SCH. I know it isn't the most interesting job, but I enjoy the toolkit it gets and the general playstyle. Also it lets me keep a carbuncle buddy along for the ride which makes me happy.

I use SMN only when husband or a friend wants a turn to heal. It's boring. Painfully boring. But useful since I can still swiftrez teammates when healer is on cooldown so I tolerate it. I've also been trying MCH a lot more lately but I wouldn't say I'm confident enough to tackle serious content yet. It's super fun though. Something very satisfying about just taking out a gun and fucking shooting things.

WAR is my go-to melee and tank class. It's okay. Not really my style but I like knowing I can fill any of the roles if a party needs it.
