So apparently CO has added a new patch that unfucks the economy and people are praising it now.

This is what I hate in games, the idea that as long as they update it "eventually" all is forgiven. You already paid them an interest-free loan when you bought the game. No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 sucked at release and that shouldn't be forgotten even when they try to "fix" some of the issues post-release. Post-release content should only be to add NEW stuff, not the stuff you PROMISED before.
god forbid people have a positive reaction to an update i guess

also i dont like the mentality of "If the game came out as bad, it should stay bad and no one should call it good" because we live in a period where we can just fix issues with games post launch, which wasnt the case in the past and was a death sentence to any game released at the time where that couldnt be done. nms and cyberpunk at least earned their way out of being complete dumpster fires. better than some games that just keep being shit regardless

My point isn't "how DARE they put out an update that fixes things, grrr grrr" it's that you are normalizing and accepting this behavior.

For a comparison, it would be like getting a small pittance of your paycheck due to some technicality, and then after four weeks dealing with Accounting they pay back the full amount (or not even the full amount) without anything extra or interest. That would be unacceptable incompetence. A world where this is normalized and kiss their ass for a patch is not a world I want to live in. Yet this is exactly what's going on with video games like this.

You're right in your reasoning, the mentality should be forgive but don't forget. That being said they're not in a stage that warrants forgiveness yet.

Economy patch unfucks a lot of things and gives some semblance of an economy, though per CO's trend with this game, it also created a lot of new issues. Examples include homeless people spiraling out of control and causing super crime waves, offices being limited to 5 employees, infinite death loops, etc. CO hopes to iron out the bugs after their vacation.

What's holding us back from the state we were promised is ASSET EDITING. My God it's been 8 months and no one can import shit to the game, it's not cities skylines without the flood of custom assets, your buildings, parks, industrial shit, 80 models of Toyotas. I don't see myself coming back to the game until the asset importer is implemented as yes, now the economy works and I can play with the anarchy mod and traffic manager. That's not why I got bored, I got bored because I have the exact same string of buildings running every block I build. Asset pack mods are few and far between since everyone is waiting for the permanent solution with the asset importer. Not to mention they're limited in scope due to the current lack of import capability.

The update benefits new players coming aboard since the skeleton of the game is actually functional now. Existing players do not get much as there's nothing new for them to do. Gotta keep waiting I guess, maybe it'll be worth coming back to at the end of the year.

Workers and Resources really could use some UI improvements like showing which buildings do not have access to sewers, water, and electricity without having to click each to see what the problem is.

and at the same time the game is still rated mixed and some people didn't buy it at all for this or other reasons. while I understand the sentiment it's not everybody is niggercattle with no impulse control. those will always exist anyway, all you really can do is follow your own principle.

Frostpunk 2 is out, just grabbed the GoG version fresh. Seems a bit janky so far, but only one crash and hopefully no save issues.
Really enjoyed the first one, and saw this one goes more into the 'empire' management instead of city+ peeps.

Might post more about it if it is worth poosting aboot.

Casual reminder that most of you are overlooking one of the best city management/builder games: A-Train.

You can read all about it here! Don't let it scare you too much.
There is a game series, starting from DOS, named Capitalism. Some of your A-Train description reminds me of it. Are you familiar with it at all? Based on what you get out of A-Train, you might get some of the same from it, but IDK.

Dark Souls is the Capitalism of third person action games. I played around with Capitalism Plus but never really stuck with it and don't have much of an opinion other than noting that the game is indeed hard.

Maybe I'd like it now...

I noticed that Bridges & Ports DLC is now delayed to Q2 2025.

Steamcharts has about 5,700 players for C:S2 daily compared to 8000 for C:S1.
Yea the 1 year anniversary of the game has come and gone with a whimper and small patch... coinciding with new content for Cities 1. One year in and they still haven't finished implementing their official way to import assets to the game, which is kind of pathetic.

Something positive- one of the bigger modders, Algernon, is full steam ahead developing the larger map mod he promised when the game released. Current iteration allows for maps up to 57x57km (~35x35mi) in size. That looks like this:

Assuming the game gets to a more playable state after full modding support and performance optimizations over 200k pop (be it from CO or modders) are achieved, this mod would allow for some very impressive 1:1 builds, fictional or not.

I like that idea. Here's what Houston could look like in theory. But with 200k still being the limit and the abysmal performance it would mean that the game would basically have to be rewritten from scratch because scrolling will be at literal glacial level or your computer would catch fire. Or both.

Yea. My only hope is that the modders can clean the mess of the simulation like they did in CS1. Saw huge improvements with the FPS booster and loading screen mods back in the first game, I'm talking going from 15-20 fps in dense areas up to 50-55. We're working with a newer version of unity and processors many times faster than those from a decade ago, surely we can have a similar breakthrough. I want my metro region with millions of residents dammit!

Swastisection is pretty creative, when you have more traffic will you be able to convert to a swastibout?
Additional traffic would make a would-be roundabout less effective. In real life, roundabouts are great to avoid four-way stops in low-traffic areas and handle areas where the street makes hard left/right turns, but they'll just jam up in higher traffic.

No I know, I was just shoehorning a way to mention swastibout
