He wanted to go into petro engineering for an easy job with his grand-father, or something akin to that.
He talked about looking into getting a chemical engineering degree at one point at a time after he had obtained his Creative Writing/English degree. Nick being Nick it was all going to be easy. But to me, it seemed like total fantasy. I don't think he had the academic background (math, physics, chemistry) or work ethic to even try to get a degree like that. I'm not sure he could have found a school that would even admit him.
Nick's grandfather went to Rice University in Texas. Nick went to a rural state college for three years after a year in community college.
