Been wondering that too. China exports all kinds of crazy analogues for popular drugs to various countries. (Mainly to the US & Mexico.) These unknown substances, aka research chemicals, aren’t even illegal as they aren’t officially documented beyond being research materials. Eventually they do get declared, but they usually enjoy a sweet period where import is perfectly legal.

There’s a really popular one, called pink fentanyl on the street, also known as U-47700, wreaking havoc across the Eastern Seaboard of the US right now, making its way through the Midwest & already has caused few dozen disastrous OD’s on the West Coast at this point in time. It’s way stronger than fentanyl too, which is stronger than heroin, & so on. It won’t show up on drug tests.

There are analogues for cocaine, too. Also, one thing to note is that these designer opioids often give the user a loopy, almost strung out feeling (long lasting effects like meth) versus naturally occurring opiates, which act as commonly described feelings of sleepiness & euphoria. I would not be surprised if Nick is ordering some weird fucking research chemicals, given his insane behavior. Brain damage from previous use is possible too. All it takes is one grain of glass or something to be floating around in his pile of coke, lurking. Once snorted, that little piece of glass could be enough to kill, or cause a hole in an important lobe in his brain, fucking up executive function for life.
